Fascinating Temples await you! Indonesia is on Singapore’s doorstep yet remains unexplored by so many of us. In particular Yogyakarta and its fascinating temples provide a wonderful opportunity for photography. Join our photography tour with professional photographer Susan Richman. Following a visit to the area last year, Susan is keen to share not only the beautiful temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, but also the landscape views of Mt Merapi (an active volcano), the local villages and Yogyakarta’s markets. Its proximity to Singapore makes it an ideal short break away. Gain confidence with your camera and lenses as you photograph a wide range of subjects. Get technical and creative tips on the go, with one-onone tuition by Susan. Plus, enjoy a Photo Review Session on tour and be inspired!

TOUR ITINERARY Day 1 Singapore to Yogyakarta Fly Singapore/Yogyakarta MI512 8:10AM – 9:30AM 

We will drive through the countryside and ascend to Ketep Pass at 1200m above sea level. With some luck and good weather we will be rewarded with a panoramic view of Central Java’s big five volcanos: Mt Merapi, Mt Merbabu, Mt Sindoro, Mt Sumbing and Mt Selamet and visit the Volcano Theatre

Before arriving at Borobudur, we make a quick stop at Pawon temple, which is in the middle of a typical village and Mendut temple with its magnificent statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni.

We will stay at Manohara Hotel in Borobudur, which is within the temple’s grounds. Borobudur is a 9th century Mahayana Buddhist monument in Central Java. If time permits, we will spend the late afternoon till sunset discovering the history and mystery of Borobudur temple, one of the world’s great architectural masterpieces and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 2 Borobudur & Yogyakarta 

Rise early for a magical sunrise at Borobudur temple. As the mist begins to lift, the surrounding volcanoes and terraced fields appear before your eyes, lighting the many faces of Buddha and stone reliefs. The view from the top of the temple at sunrise is spectacular and provides endless photographic opportunities.

End the morning tour with a picnic breakfast at Dagi Hill, affording you with another view of Borobudur.

We will explore the town of Borobudur before traveling to Yogyakarta with possible stops at villages with local markets/temples.

Check into Ibis Malioboro Hotel

We will spend the afternoon exploring Yogyakarta. There is a colourful and extraordinary local market where motor bike parts sit side by side with the fruit and vegetable vendors, and despite the central location it’s relatively tourist free.

At the end of the day we’ll return to the hotel so you can take a break and a shower before dinner. After dinner we will have our photo review session.

Enjoy lunch and a robust Javanese coffee at Omah Dhuwur, a restaurant housed in a 150 year-old colonial mansion. You’ll also have time to visit the traditional home industry Batik-making centre and Yogyakarta silverware shops.

We will visit Java’s most beautiful Hindu Temple – the 9th century Prambanan temple late in the afternoon for sunset. The temple is set amongst the emerald green paddies of Javanese countryside and, although badly damaged in an earthquake in 2006, is currently in the final stages of restoration.
