Y Summer Camp Goals Teach children values including caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. We will also add the values of empathy and integrity. Improve campers reading skills by exposure to books and learning activities that emphasize reading (skits, games, etc). Improve camper’s health through nutrition and exercise. Improve family stress and relationships by offering family days each week.

ELEMENTARY THEME CAMP

A theme day camp with outdoor fun and quality supervision provides a positive experience in theme camp for the camper in your family. The focus of this camp will be on developing social skills, teamwork, self-esteem and an appreciation for the environment. Campers are exposed to interactive curriculum including values, reading and health and wellness. Activities include field trips, on-site guest speakers, recreational swim, indoor and outdoor games, nature activities, arts and crafts, special events on Friday and so much more. Campers will learn about the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. If your child loves to explore and go somewhere different and exciting each week, this is the perfect camp for them. OFFERED: Monday – Friday, 7a.m. – 6p.m.

WELCOME TO SEUSSVILLE Horton hears a what? The cat is wearing a hat?! Dr. Seuss was one of the most creative writers of all time, bringing readers on a journey through the imagination. Campers will read, write, create and bring to life stories in the spirit of Dr. Seuss. Get ready for some wacky times! June 3-7 Willow Creek Church (Oviedo YMCA)

DON’T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT Traveling around the world seems like the perfect way to spend a week in the summer. Our campers will be doing just that as we “leave” our camp site each day and travel the world in our supersonic jet. Campers will see a different country each day, taste a new food, create an art project and learn how to say hello and goodbye in a different language. ANIMAL ADVENTURES Kids will love this camp and exploring the wild world of animals. Campers will have a unique hands-on experience enhanced by projects and activities related to the animals and ideas explored throughout the week. Real life animal encounters will have campers captivated as they learn about animals and their habitats. June 17-21

SUPER HERO Calling all Super Heroes! Bring your powers and your imagination to Super Hero camp for an amazing week of fun. Campers will create their super hero costumes with inspiration from their favorite comic or movie. ELEMENTARY THEME CAMP STARS & STRIPES Shoot for the stars and stripes with us as we celebrate our nation’s history this week. Let your patriotic side shine through in red, white, and blue. Patriotic songs, games, and cooking activities are designed to set off the fireworks in a colorful exciting adventure. July 1-5 (No Camp July 4)

SPLISH, SPLISH, SPLASH Don’t plan on staying dry this week! Campers will get their fill of water with this camp. Playing water games, water sports and visiting a water park are just a few things that will keep them splishing and splashing. Don’t forget your sunscreen because this camp is going to be fun in the sun!

OOEY GOOEY LAB Experimentation is the focus of this camp. SPIRIT WEEK Who has the most spirit?! Crazy sock day, hat day and jersey day are just a few of the things you can expect. Campers have fun being part of daily challenges that include games, songs, banners, and skits! We have friendly competition for all campers, all while teaching about caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. Don’t miss out on the Celebrity Mascot Games, as mascots from across the country have a friendly spirit competition.

CHEERLEADING

At YMCA Specialty Camp your child can pick from several activities that they can focus on for the entire session. COOKING

Try our fun and exciting cooking camp! Each camper will learn the basics of cooking, meal planning, dining etiquette, and end their experience by preparing a fantastic three-course meal for the family. Get ready for the exciting adventures of the kitchen!

DANCE

This camp is full of fun! Campers will dance their way to the beat as they learn different dancing skills and hip-hop moves. They’ll also show off their skills in a performance for family and friends at the end of the week.

PERFORMING ARTS - MUSIC

Campers will understand the basics of reading music, learning new instruments, and producing their own musical numbers. This is an introductory class for campers who have an interest in music and would like some small group instruction.

Middle School Summer Zone Once you’ve chosen your summer zone location and registered for a week of camp, your child can choose their special interests from the list below. These special interests will be intermixed with other daily activities, including sports, games, arts and crafts and character development. Campers can choose a different special interest for every week they attend camp.

Rockets and Robots

Each week students can choose to participate in exciting labs that include building and setting off rockets, building race cars, and building and programming robots.

Media Frenzy

Options in this adventure track can include making your own movie, digital photography or working on the summer newsletter.

Extreme Adventures

Campers can choose to learn how to survive in the wilderness, participate in rock climbing, build water rockets and participate in a variety of different adventurous activities.

Sports

Students learn to play a variety of sports including: basketball, soccer, football and other team sports.

Chef Express

Culinary artists will love designing and preparing the latest recipes in this adventure track.

Arts Academy

OFFERED: June 10-July 18. Closed every Friday and the week of July 4th.

Campers will explore their artistic creativity in a variety of ways in this program. Drawing, painting and sculpting are just a few of the things our young artists will participate in.

8 a.m.-4 p.m. (Exact times vary by site).

Music Factory

Extended hours available from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. for an additional $15 per week.

Our music lovers will enjoy participating in chorus, band, dance and other performing arts during this course. They will have a chance to showcase their skills weekly and perform at the End of the Summer Showcase.

For more than 50 years, YMCA Camp Wewa in Apopka has been helping kids grow in spirit, mind and body. It enjoys a rich history and tradition of unique adventure programs, discovery and exploration that form the foundation of an incredible camp environment where fun and growth go hand-in-hand. Many of Central Florida’s top leaders spent their youth making life-long friends and developing their leadership skills at Camp Wewa!

What do we do?

Our activities are designed to help develop responsibility, leadership skills and create new friendships through teamwork. At Camp Wewa, strong values are the foundation of all that we do, and even though our goal is to help campers grow, we never sacrifice fun in the process. When we welcome campers into the Wewa family, we watch over them as if they were our own children—in an environment of safety.

How do we do it?

At Camp Wewa, counselors and staff members are certified in CPR, First Aid, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens safety. Certified lifeguards are always on duty, and programs are supervised by individuals certified in each activity, including Archery, Riflery, Team-building/ROPES course and more. So when your children join the Wewa family, you can rest assured that they are in good hands!

Our 55-acre resident camp is conveniently located just north of Orlando, making it convenient to reach from anywhere in Central Florida. The camp is within a few short minutes of Highway 429, which connects with Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 4.

*Schedule varies from day to day and from group to group. All campers participate in each activity at least once each week and ideally, all campers will participate in swimming 2-3 times each week. In line with the YMCA’s commitment to youth development, all campers participate in Value Discussions, Reading Activities and Nutrition & Exercise Programs 4 times per week. The schedule may vary to accommodate special events at camp.
