SABBATH THROUGH THE AGES SERIES – Part 1 Handout – September 18, 2010

YHWH’s Law of Blessing Light Symbolizes Truth •

Psalm 119:105 “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

John 3:19-21 “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

Light Should Increase Continually •

Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”

Great Light is Promised at the End of Tikme •

“And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.” Revelation 18:1

How Does Our Light Increase? •

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Receiving True Doctrine is Part of the Latter Rain? •

“My DOCTRINE shall drop as the rain, My SPEECH shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.” Deuteronomy 32:2

Hosea 10:12 “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till He come and rain righteousness upon you.”

YHWH’s Law is a Big Part of the Doctrinal Light for the End •

Malachi 4:4-6 “Remember ye the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD...”

But Many Have a Sickness Called: Laodiceanism - Also Known as the No-More-Light-Needed Syndrome •

Revelation 3:17 “...Thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”

Obedience to YHWH’s Law is Salvational in the Last Days •

Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery (breaking one of the ten commandments), fornication (breaking statutes), uncleanness (breaking statutes), lasciviousness (breaking statutes), idolatry (breaking one of the ten commandments), witchcraft (breaking statutes), hatred (breaking statutes), variance (breaking statutes), emulations (breaking statutes), wrath (breaking statutes), strife (breaking statutes), seditions (breaking statutes), heresies (breaking statutes), envying (breaking one of the ten commandments), murders (breaking one of the ten commandments), drunkenness (breaking statutes), revellings (breaking statutes), and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

What is the Law of YHWH? – According to Yahshua, it was more than the 10 Commandments of Ex. 20. •

Matthew 22:37-40 “Yahshua said unto Him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets’.”

What is the Law of YHWH? – According to David, it was more than the 10 Commandments of Ex. 20. •

Psalm 19:7-11 “The Law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes… More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”

Defining the word “Law” from the original Hebrew word –

“Law of YHWH” is translated from the original Hebrew word Torah (to-raw), meaning:

“A precept, or statute, especially the Decalogue, or Pentateuch: - Law” (Strong’s, #8451).

TORAH (YHWH’S LAW OF BLESSING)

David Was Listing the Parts of the Law in Psalm 19! •

The LAW (TORAH) of the Lord is perfect – converting the soul –

The COMMANDMENT of the Lord is pure – enlightening the eyes • Commandments here refer to the 10 Commandments, which are like the “chapter headings” of YHWH’s Law. The STATUTES of the Lord are right – rejoicing the heart • Statutes here refer to the 613 principles giving detail or the “fine print” under the “chapter headings” of the Ten Commandments. The TESTIMONY of the LORD is sure - making wise the simple • The testimony of Torah is the stories of those who obeyed YHWH or disobeyed Him. We gain wisdom through learning from their experiences. The JUDGMENTS of the LORD are true and righteous altogether • The judgments are the blessings or cursings which we receive for obedience or disobedience. Obedience indicates our love for God (Exodus 20:6, John 14:5).

Remembering the statutes is part of the Final Elijah Message • Malachi 4:4-6 “Remember ye the Law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” The Torah (YHWH’s Law) is organized like a chain • Matthew 22:37-40 “Yahshua said unto Him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets’.” Yahshua didn’t give NEW Commandments here… He was quoting from STATUTES found in Torah: • •

First and Great Commandment: “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind” o Torah location: Deuteronomy 6:5 Second Commandment: “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” o Torah location: Leviticus 19:18

Yahshua said plainly that He had not come to end the Law! •

Point to Consider: If something is nailed to the Cross, it means it is done away with – ended. Was the Sabbath Ended at the Cross? If it was, it cannot have any post-Calvary applications, and we certainly shouldn’t see any purpose for it in the future… Torah light on YAH’s appointed times: Seventh-day Sabbath •

Isaiah 8:16, 20 “Bind up the testimony, seal the Law among My disciples. To the Law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”

What was nailed to the Cross? •

When people say the Ten Commandments were Nailed to the Cross - What Is Really Being Nailed (done away with)?

KEEP (These are Still Valid for Good “Christian” Virtue) Love God first and best Honor your parents No adultery Don’t kill or lie Don’t steal or covet •

DISCARD (No longer Valid for Good “Christian” Virtue) Keep the Seventh-day Sabbath

When people say the Statutes were Nailed to the Cross - What Is Really Being Nailed?

KEEP (These are Still Valid for Good “Christian” Virtue) Health Laws Laws regarding morality Respect for authority Help for the poor Be honest / honorable

DISCARD (No longer Valid for Good “Christian” Virtue) Keep the Annual Sabbaths

So What Is the Handwriting of Ordinances Which Was Nailed to the Cross in Colossians 2:14? •

What handwriting is there relating to the Law? – The Bible refers to two things which have to do with the Ordinances (Law) and are written 1. the writings of Moses (Torah) – But, Christ Himself said He had not come to do away with the Law of Moses - Matt 5:1718 2. the written record of our breaking of the Law – Sin is the breaking of the Law – 1 John 3:4

If Yahshua did away with the Torah, He would have been lying to us in Matthew 5:17-18… We know Yahshua didn’t lie – so His life/death did NOT do away with even the smallest part of the Torah.

When we Study Colossians 2:14 more deeply, it becomes abundantly clear that the only handwriting (regarding Torah) that was against us (as Torah is for our blessing) is the written record of how we have broken the Torah – our SINS… Consider the following translations: “He wiped out the bill of charges against us, because of the regulations it stood as a testimony against us; but He removed it by nailing it to the execution stake.”Colossians 2:14 Jewish New Testament “...Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ's cross...” Colossians 2:14 The Message Bible “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:14 New Living Translation “God wiped out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses. He took them away and nailed them to the cross.” Colossians 2:14 Contemporary English Version WHAT WAS NAILED TO THE CROSS? NOT THE LAW – IT WAS OUR SINS! IN THE LAST DAYS, GOD’S PEOPLE WILL BE REMEMBERING THE TORAH – AND CALLING THE WORLD TO REMEMBER IT. IF THE TORAH (LAW OF MOSES) IS FOR THE END OF TIME, IT COULDN’T HAVE BEEN NAILED TO THE CROSS. •

Malachi 4:4-6 “Remember ye the Law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD...”
