New ‘reformed’ GCSE Every other subject!
How are the new ‘reformed’ GCSEs different? • Assessment is mainly by examination and there is no coursework • The examinations will be terminal rather than modular
• The examination papers will not be tiered (except Maths and Science) • More demanding content • A*-C grading is replaced by the 9-1 system • Grade 5 is considered to be a ‘good’ pass
This is the grade we would expect the student to be at if they are making good progress This is how they compare to their Expected Achievement
Attitude to learning This refers to attitude in lessons
Fine grading on the current grades
Homework effort is on the same scale as Attitude to Learning
1= Excellent 2= Good 3 = Needs improvement 4 = Poor

training provided by the exam board AQA. All English teachers have attended internal training. New resources have been purchased. All teachers are following schemes of work written by curriculum leaders. Students and their parents are kept regularly informed about the contents of the courses and the nature of assessment. Every half-term, all year ten students will complete an assessment under timed examination conditions to test the skills taught during that period. The progress of all students is measured and tracked to ensure that no student is left behind feeling unsupported.
Supporting our students' achievements at home Encourage your children to read widely around subjects that
interest them. Watch a moving image or live version together of texts that they're studying for English Literature. Watch interesting quality documentaries together on topics that interest your children. Encourage your children to write regularly, for different purposes, little and often. Access our English section on KITE. Use the Show my Homework app.
