Worship 9:00 am & 10:30 am - November 20, 2016 Christ the King Sunday is celebrated on the last Sunday before Advent (which marks the beginning of the new Church Year). As such, this Sunday is the climax and conclusion of the Church’s liturgical journey through the life of Christ and the Gospel message. Its purpose? To celebrate the coming reign of Christ as King over all the Earth and his completion of the renewed creation that marks the fullness of the Kingdom of God. “Grace and peace to you from the God who is, and who was, and who is to come ...and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. [Rev. 1:4] Prelude: “Hallelujah To the King” Welcome “O Worship the King” O worship the King, all glorious above O gratefully sing his power and his love Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise O tell of his might; O sing of his grace Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form And dark is his path on the wings of the storm Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite It breathes in the air, it shines in the light It streams from the hills, it descends to the plains And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail In thee do we trust, nor find you to fail Thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end Our maker, defender, redeemer, and friend “Majestic”

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth (2X) The heavens declare your greatness; the oceans cry out to you The mountains, they bow down before you So I’ll join with the earth and I’ll give my praise to you I will worship you, I will worship you We will worship you, we will worship you The heavens declare your greatness; the oceans cry out to you The mountains, they bow down before you So I’ll join with the earth and I’ll sing The heavens declare your greatness; the oceans cry out to you The mountains, they bow down before you So I’ll join with the earth and I’ll give my praise to you (2X) New Member Welcome - Lisa Capozzoli, Gregg DeMey “How Great Is Our God” The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice He wraps himself in light, and darkness tries to hide And trembles at his voice, and trembles at his voice How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see how great, how great is our God And age to age he stands, and time is in his hands Beginning and the end, beginning and the end The Godhead three in one; Father, Spirit, Son The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb Name above all names, worthy of all praise My heart will sing, how great is our God Then sings my soul, my Savior, God, to thee How great thou art, how great thou art Greetings Announcements - Dave Zeilstra Offertory: “Soon I Will Be Done” The offering is for the Elmhurst Ministries Fund Message: “Is There A Heaven?” - Peter Semeyn, Lead Pastor 1 John 5:11-13; Rev. 21:23-24, 27 Prayer of Response

Sacrament of Holy Communion “Jesus Messiah” He became sin who knew no sin That we might become his righteousness He humbled himself and carried the cross Love so amazing, love so amazing Jesus Messiah, Name above all names Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel The Rescue for sinners, the Ransom from heaven Jesus Messiah, Lord of all His body the bread, his blood the wine Broken and poured out all for love The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn Love so amazing, love so amazing All our hope is in you, all our hope is in you All the glory to you God, the Light of the world “How Great Thou Art” Oh Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee How great thou art, how great thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee How great thou art, how great thou art When through the woods and forest glades I wander I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze And when I think that God, his Son not sparing Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, “My God, how great thou art!” Sending & Blessing

TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC Is there a heaven? Yes!! The Bible is clear about the existence of heaven: it is a place where there is no evil, no sorrow, no disease, no suffering, no worry or conflict. It is where we realize the reality of “not my will, but yours.” We won’t care about personal preferences, theological nuances, or doctrinal minutiae. In the meantime, we see glimpses of heaven on earth. On this Christ the King Sunday, we will find glimpses as we welcome new members to our church community and celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC Next Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Advent - a season in which we self-consciously wait for the arrival of Jesus, the Light of the world. This year during Advent, we will live into the story of the Magi, or Wisemen, who became aware of the coming King of the Jews through the rising of his star in the East. Their decision to follow the light of this star set the Magi on a journey that spanned years and covers thousands of difficult miles. Please Matthew 2:1-12 to prepare for this worship service. OUR CHURCH FAMILY We welcome our New Members and their families into our congregation: Mary Brezwyn and son, Giovanni; Joe & Jenni Beles and daughter, Rachael; Emily Huizenga; Audrey Huizenga; Glenn & Kim Sebesta and daughter, Taylor; Amy Marie ZielkeLaPointe & Greg LaPointe and children, Ethan and Grant; and Wendy & Phillip Warren. Congratulations to Amy & Ryan West on the adoption of their daughter, Mina Li West. We want to extend our sympathy to Lori Pett as she mourns the loss of her aunt, Linda Moore, on November 15. Prayer Requests: Please pray for healing and strength for Lois Arthur, Doris Baur, Henrietta Hall, Bill Poe, Maria Ramos, and Marilyn Ward. Join us in praying for each other. To send your prayer requests or praises to be included in the email prayer chain, or to receive a daily email of these requests, email [email protected] or call the church office at 630-600-5100. If you would like your prayer request included in the weekly announcements in the worship folder please email Lisa Capozzoli, Director of Care and Community, at [email protected].

ANNOUNCEMENTS Thanksgiving Day Worship will be at 10 am on Thursday, November 24. Each Thanksgiving, the deacons encourage members to express thankfulness through an offering to their favorite cause. This week’s worship folder contains special envelopes for the Thanksgiving offering, and a list of various groups and organizations our church has supported in the past. Prayerfully consider your gift of thanksgiving. Children are invited to bring offerings of boxed goods, canned goods, toiletries, or gift cards to our Thanksgiving service for the Yorkfield Food Pantry. The church office will be closed on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. It's the time of year when congregation members are invited to nominate Elders and Deacons (there are no Senior Leadership Team vacancies this year). It's not about age or tenure, but about personal and spiritual maturity. It's about caring and compassion (deacon), and shepherding and teaching (elder). We are looking for men and women to serve in these roles as

defined by these qualifications, as well as those found in Titus 1:6-9, and I Timothy 3:1-17. Nomination forms are available at the Information Center in the atrium, or online at elmhurstcrc.org/resources/publications. Nominations will be accepted through December 4. Thank you to everyone who designated a gift to World Renew in recent weeks. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to give $10,415 to World Renew for their ongoing emergency relief to heavy destruction from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and the East Coast of the U.S. after heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides destroyed homes, killed people and cut off access to food, clean water and medical supplies. If you would like to donate items for the Fall College Exam Goodie Boxes please sign up at the information center. Donations are due by November 27, and will be packed and shipped on November 30. Items may be left in the storage room in the kitchen. Questions? Email Kathy Feringa at [email protected] or call 630-728-3368.
