Student Experience

Kyle K. Yee

How did you find the McGill experience?

How have you developed since graduating?

On weekdays, I set aside at least two to three hours per day for reading and completing my assignments. During classes, everyone was so supportive and enjoyable to be around. I am so happy that the professors stayed after classes to help us.

I have become a lot more confident in my abilities. While on the program, I was promoted to my current role as senior human resources manager. I think a McGill MBA is suitable for anyone who is looking to learn how to succeed in a very competitive world.

How did you manage your time during the course?

How has the experience expanded your career opportunities?

I prioritized every activity in my life and sorted each into one of four categories: those to be removed from my schedule, those to remain, those to be reduced, or those to be increased. I constantly reviewed these priorities depending on my situation. By undergoing these practices, I have developed an ability to always consider my priorities.

In terms of quality and quantity, the recruitment offers I have received are greater now. I’m sure my future career opportunities have expanded because some of these offers are due to my MBA qualification. As my network has expanded, I have access to more information that, in turn, offers a greater number and variety of opportunities.

Why did you choose the McGill MBA Japan Program?

How did you manage your time during the course?

I wanted to enroll in an English-language MBA course that would allow me to earn a degree while working. I knew McGill University as a well-respected academic institution, and the content that was provided matched my requirements.

Managing time was very difficult, but I committed to this course by giving up a lot of personal time. As my job requires frequent global travel, I had to carefully plan my trips based on assignments and class schedule. In addition, I covered reading material and proofread my assignments during commuting time. For group work, I utilized online collaboration tools such as Skype and Google Apps to work efficiently with all my classmates.

How was the teaching environment?

How has the experience affected your skills?

When teams were presenting assignments to the class, people were listening intently and were ready to ask a lot of questions. The professors were passionate about their fields of expertise. Due to their varied backgrounds, students approached the same problem in different ways, which was interesting to witness.

The MBA is not just about studying various topics. If you apply yourself, you begin to acquire a unique problem-solving mindset as you study theories and techniques in the various modules. These things, when combined, help you approach tasks and confront challenges head-on. Acquiring this mindset has been the most rewarding part of the program.
