March 27, 2016 will be a date long remembered by anyone close to World Christian Broadcasting. Almost 10 years and $12,000,000 since we began working with the government of Madagascar, Madagascar World Voice (MWV) went on the air at 4:00 a.m. Madagascar time. That made it 9:00 p.m., March 26, in the headquarters at Franklin, Tennessee.
one billion of them turned on at any one time. Each receiver that is turned on has an average of three listeners, giving the two stations, KNLS and MWV, a potential audience of three billion people at any time during the day.
This allows us to send God’s Word to the rest of the world not being reached by KNLS our station in Alaska. There are an estimated three billion shortwave receivers throughout the world with
Overseeing the entire project was our God. He has used many people including the Chambers to make sure the Great Commission is fulfilled. To Him be the glory!!!
Ten years may seem like a long time to build a radio station, but as you are aware there have been many roadblocks and obstacles to overcome during those years. Everything from a coup d’état, vandalism, cyclones, manufacturing delays and government interference have all worked to defeat our effort, but all have failed. God has allowed us to complete the construction of Madagascar World Voice and to finally get our generators, transmitters and antennas all working smoothly.
March 2016
Vice President of Engineering, Kevin Chambers, is the architect, engineer, contractor and builder of Madagascar World Voice. “This new station would not be in existence without Kevin Chambers,” said Charles Caudill, President/CEO. “His brilliance, perseverance, relationship building and hard, hard work have all been needed as the construction continued for those 10 years. Kevin and Nancy Chambers are an amazing couple who have spent months at a time away from family and friends. It is a simple fact: that station would not exist without Kevin Chambers and his supportive and hardworking Nancy,” Caudill continued.

ANNUAL SPRING DINNER
By Dick Brackett Sometimes we work very hard to accomplish something and enjoy the satisfaction of completing the task or reaching a milestone. There is a sense of victory, elation and pride. Even when we give credit to God for His guidance, the feeling is still a good one. This period may then be replaced by one that heads in the opposite direction.
It is never enough to simply reach a goal - because the goal is usually only part of a much larger effort. This ministry is basking in the fact that the Alaska broadcast facility now has a sister station on Madagascar that is even larger, newer, and adds several new languages. Adding Arabic, Spanish, French and special programming for Africa is a major victory. Although it has taken 10 years to see this project reach its basic purpose - to go on the air - many blessings have come along the way. Local communities have received assistance. Financing of the project was obtained so there is no debt lingering. The remaining job is to keep the 2 stations operating, to keep relevant programs prepared for existing and new audiences, to continue to look for ways to reach even more people with messages of hope and to provide assistance when presented with opportunities. All of this will take your continued prayers and gifts. The only real hope for the next world is Christ in this one and "it ain't over yet!

news about Madagascar and will share some details about a special trip to Madagascar to attend the official dedication ceremony for the new facility.
Plans for our annual Spring Dinner are underway. This will be one of the most exciting dinners ever. That excitement here at World Christian Broadcasting is being And this exciting evening prompted by two very important will also include news about some events. Our dinner is one. Our plans on the horizon for World principal speakers are Dr. Royce Christian Broadcasting’s future. Money, Chancellor of Abilene Christian University and Andy Baker, Vice President/Development of World Christian Broadcasting. But the news about our Madagascar station will be paramount. By now, the switches have been thrown, the transmitters are running and the signals are being broadcast over a vast portion of the world. Coupled with the station in Anchor Point, Alaska, the Madagascar station makes us a premier private shortwave broadcaster in the world. Andy Baker will have more

Regional Focus Highlights Differences
We want you to have a glimpse of the challenges our listeners face in different parts of the world. Here is an interview with Henry Huffard, Senior Producer Africa and Tony Tadros, Senior Producer for the Arabic language. World Christian Broadcasting (WCB): Much of our broadcasts in our first thirty years have gone where Communism has tried to erase belief in God. Will you have to convince the people of Africa and the Middle East that God exists?
Henry: No. Most African cultures believe in the High God who is Creator. They already have a name for him which translators use when putting the Bible into their language. Traditionally, the Creator is too lofty to be concerned with common people. They believe their lives are determined by lower spiritual forces such as ancestors. Part of our job will be to better explain who God is and proclaim Jesus as our mediator.
Henry Huffard
Henry: Christianity is growing in Africa, but it often does not make a difference in ways that it should. For seekers, our programming will affirm the gospel of Christ and address some of Africa’s pressing needs. For young Christians, we will also have programming to help them make a difference in their communities. We will discourage Christians from sliding back into traditional beliefs, such as practicing family rituals (sacrifices) Tony: My Arabic audience believes and seeking help from traditional practitioners when trouble comes. in Allah, which is Arabic for “God.” However, their concept of Tony: In this region, faith is not a God is different from that in the Bible. They believe in God creator personal matter, but rather an integral part of life, politics and of heaven and earth and Jesus as national identity. To follow Christ, only a great prophet. God’s love, a person risks being rejected by grace and redemption are new to their family, losing their many people. possessions and maybe facing death or imprisonment. WCB: What challenges must be overcome for your listeners to follow Christ?
WCB: What are some of the

greatest needs of your audience? Is there any way you can help them? Henry: Poverty, disease and war have ravaged many places in Africa. Traditional African thought asks, “Who brings these horrors on me? My ancestors? An enemy who has cursed me?” In the traditional African worldview, a person has little or no control because his life is set by powerful spiritual forces. Christ brings hope. Along with Him and His message, we share useful information that educates and promotes peace in families and communities. Tony: in the last few years, political, ethnic and religious conflicts increased, resulting in turmoil and instability across the region. Young people particularly face an identity crisis, standing at the crossroads between traditionalism and globalism. Continued on page 12

LETTERS FROM LISTENERS It’s that time where we take a look at letters that have arrived here at World Christian Broadcasting, either by email or by classic (“snail”) mail.
(Note: it’s customary for listeners to request a program guide or frequency schedule, which we’re sending this listener.)
“Hello, please find some information on your reception in Australia recently and hope it is of use to you now (that) you’re back on the air, and thank you for continuing to broadcast on shortwave. My first QSL was from KNLS about 15 years ago so the station does hold a special place with me, and was glad to find you still on shortwave after coming back to shortwave listening.”
“I am writing to report my reception of your radio station KNLS in Sycow (southwest Poland).”
We’ll start with one from Australia:
On to Sweden for this one:
“I enjoy listening to short- and mediumwave radio stations from all over the world.
All they hear from the loudspeakers is the noise, but to me radio over the borders open new horizons. I know that a lot of other stations stream their programs on the Internet, but that is certainly not the same as catching the signal on air. That said, I am very pleased to inform you that I have been able to catch your signal on shortwave 11870 kHz.” This letter came from the United States:
“I enjoyed listening to your program. Not only was it informative, but it wasn’t belligerent, as are many of the Christian broadcasts on shortwave. I believe a calm presentation is more likely to inspire than a bludgeoning of the eardrums. Thanks.” From Japan, this one was to the point:
“I am back and glad to listen to your station with cool music…English idiom is interesting program.” (Our English Express feature, presented by Dick Brackett and others, explains idioms that are often heard in America.) Still in Japan:
“Please send me your program.”
Page 4
From Poland:
From Germany:
“I was very pleased to hear your radio station, Radio KNLS, on 9615 khz in Russian. I have been interested in remote radio stations since good 28 years and I’m member in ADDX since 25 years.” (Note: ADDX is an international shortwave listening club.) From China:
I feel like I’m close to you whenever I listen to the radio program. Even though I have no way to attend church, I pray each day and ask God to bless me. From same person as above:
I believe that prayer is very useful, as sometimes I see direct answers to my prayers. This lady visited the website but did not hear the radio program:
Your special lessons at Chinese New Year were very encouraging to me; they helped me a lot. This lady also visited the website but did not hear the radio program (I think):
God showed us special preference by sending us a great New Year gift in the form of the content of Sheng Ming Zhi Guang [KNLS].
From a Christian lady who I know in another venue, but I’ve never actually seen or met her. She is now back in China I think: All I have to do is turn on your program and I can hear your voice; it is like having you right here next to me so very close.

Earline Perry: Lover of God, Lover of People 1927 - 2016
This ministry is mourning the loss of Earline Perry. Earline has been a part of the World Christian Broadcasting family since before it was founded. When those who dreamed of the day shortwave radio broadcasts would cover the globe first started talking, they met in the Perrys’ living room in Abilene, Texas. When a corporation was established in 1976 to carry out that vision, the first meetings were again held in the Perrys’ living room. Since the earliest days of their marriage, Earline Perry and her husband, Lowell, were praying that the message of God’s love could cover the earth. During their years as missionaries in Brazil, radio ministry was one of their major tools. When they returned to Abilene Christian
University where Lowell was professor of communications, they continued to dream of the day radio waves would carry the gospel to places where missionaries could not go. In March of 1977, Lowell gave his life in a tragic airplane explosion near the island of Martinique while he and two others were searching for the first broadcast site for the new ministry. In spite of the fact that Lowell’s mission interest had left Earline a widow, she never faltered in supporting World Christian Broadcasting from its beginning to the day of her death, February 19, 2016. “Earline Perry is a remarkable servant,” said Dr. Bob Scott, first president of World Christian

Earline Perry Broadcasting. “Lowell was the love of her life and they were a matched pair. Their family has had great influence on those around them.” Despite the crash, Earline became an advocate for World Christian Broadcasting and helped with fundraising. When the Alaska station was built, Earline went to attend the grand opening in July, 1983. Shortly before Lowell’s death, Earline earned her realtor’s license. She sold her first two houses just the day before Lowell left for the Caribbean. Her real estate business prospered and, through her income from that, Earline became one of World Christian Broadcasting’s most generous donors. Few people ever engaged in conversation with Earline but what she soon turned the conversation to the mission of World Christian Broadcasting. For the last 25 years, Earline has been on our Board of Directors. Charles Caudill, president of World Christian Broadcasting, said, “She Continued on page 10

Eris Ritchie: One of Our Best Ambassadors 1935 - 2016 Eris Richie, former member of the Board of Director of World Christian Broadcasting, died January 17, 2016, in his home in Cisco, Texas. Eris was elected to the Board in 1985 and served for 19 years. After graduating from Abilene Christian University with a degree in music education, Eris became band director at two high schools and Cisco College in Texas before becoming public relations director for the college. He was also an entrepreneur, founding Southwest Enterprises and two subsidiaries. He served as mayor of Cisco for five years – and was so popular that one of the townspeople remarked, “People considered him mayor even when he wasn’t mayor.”
Eris had a “persuasive ambience,” said the former president of Cisco College. “His personality was amazing. He never met a stranger.” He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, courteous, thoughtful man as well as a respected businessman and community ambassador. World Christian Broadcasting drafted Eris to be a member of the programming committee on the Board. As a part of that group, Eris listened to hundreds of hours of World Christian Broadcasting programming, making notes to assure the Board that its programming staff was faithfully carrying out its mission. Though Eris has not been on the Board for twelve years, he never wavered in his faithful support

and inspirational backing of World Christian Broadcasting’s objectives and goals. Charles Caudill, World Christian Broadcasting’s President, said, “Eris and I were long-time partners in our work with World Christian Broadcasting. He was also a close personal friend. I miss him.” Eris Ritchie was a genuine friend of this ministry, a dedicated Christian leader, and a rock-solid encouragement for his family and friends. He will be missed.

is one of the strongest supporters we have, not only financially, but in encouragement also. A great and Godly woman has gone home.” Earline is remembered fondly by the staff of World Christian Broadcasting as one who not only came to Board meetings, but who walked throughout the building to encourage—and distribute substantial financial gifts— to all staff members.
Page 10
On hearing the news of Earline’s death, charter member of the Board Dr. George Bridges wrote, “She had one of the strongest Christian characters I have ever witnessed. Her strength when she received the news of Lowell’s passing . . . was a monumental example to all of us to keep on keeping on. She led her family in faith as they continued their walk with the Savior in troubled times. Always gracious, looking forward,
talking to any and all about WCB and its mission of reaching the entire world for Christ . . . .” Rex Morgan, Senior Producer for Latin America, wrote, “A great, loving, and generous woman has been taken home. Her example and her mission will live on through us. Our prayers are with her family . Earline is survived by her two sons, David and Greg, and a daughter, Susan, as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Chuck Whittle - A Living Legacy From the Hall-Perry Legacy Society
Charles ‘Chuck’ Whittle is one of the reasons World Christian Broadcasting is the organization that it is today. He was part of the group that envisioned the dream of reaching the world with radio broadcast and then served as Chairman of the board during the early formative years.
A meeting was held in Detroit, Michigan in March 1975 to discuss ways to penetrate the Soviet Union with the gospel message. Lowell Perry attended that meeting and stayed in the home of Chuck Whittle. Also attending that meeting was Maurice Hall. These three men agreed on the strategy to use shortwave technology in order to reach vast areas economically. While Lowell Perry preferred to focus on South America, the decision was made to target eastern Russia and China instead. They thought it would require three stations to cover all the world and it would be a great challenge to get even one station built and operating. The organizational first board meeting of the new ministry was held at the Preston Crest Church of Christ in Dallas, TX in December, Charles "Chuck" Whittle 1976. Lowell Perry was named the first Chairman of the board and Ken Ferguson was named vice-chair. In March, 1977, both men were killed when their plane exploded over the Caribbean Ocean while looking for potential sites for a radio station. The stunned board decided the vision for this ministry must remain. Chuck Whittle was elected to serve as Chairman to succeed the vacated position. He served in that capacity until 1992, a period of 14 years, and continued to serve on the board until 2003. He has served World Christian Broadcasting in that capacity longer than any other individual. Chuck was present in Anchor Point, Alaska when the new KNLS station was dedicated in 1984. Also present was noted preacher-editor Reuel Lemmons and WCB President Bob Scott. Chuck retired early from his profession in 1991 to become a missionary to Russia, where he spent the next 15 years. While he served with churches over much of Russia, his work was centered in St. Petersburg. An initial trip to Russia with staff members from World Christian Broadcasting occurred that year for the purpose of evangelism in St. Petersburg. There were 10,000 responses, showing the thirst for the truth of God’s word on the part of the Russian people. Chuck was also instrumental in sending thousands of bibles to churches and individual Christians throughout Russia. Chuck is thrilled for at least two things. He is thrilled that the new station in Madagascar can now send a strong radio signal to western Russia, a land he has come to love. Chuck said, “It has been my hope and prayer that the major part of the world can now hear the word of Christ. In addition to eastern Russia, China and that region, we can now broadcast to western Asia, Europe, South America and Africa.” He is also thrilled that he has the opportunity to extend his legacy of service to this ministry. World Christian Broadcasting has been included in his will ever since around 1991. Chuck Whittle is truly a Living Legacy of World Christian Broadcasting. We are proud to have him be a member of the Hall-Perry Legacy Society. His selfless service has been so much a part of the past history of this ministry. His inclusion in his will assures he will continue his legacy into the future as well.

Statistics show that showing the love of Christ, through his followers, is the single most effective way to attract people to Him – and that’s what we present in our programs. WCB: Give some examples of your programming. Henry: “Ask the Doctor” addresses medical needs. “Path to a Happy Home” helps husbands and wives build better relationships in the African context. A father dramatically tells his children about some of the greatest characters and
events in the Bible in “The Bible for Children.” The wisdom of Africa and Bible verses combine to become devotional messages in “African Proverbs.” “Making a Difference in Africa” interviews individuals who impact African communities through mission efforts and humanitarian projects.
Tony: “Invitation to Freedom” shows us that we can have freedom in Christ from all kinds of bondages, like addiction, guilt, un-forgiveness, etc. “Life Journey” is a drama about problems faced by a married couple, followed by Biblical teaching. Another program,

Often a village listens! “Think!” challenges people not to take things for granted but to re-evaluate, look at things from a different perspective and reach their own conclusions. From just these two programming services, you can see how different approaches must be made to meet the needs of our varied audiences. Our other senior producers will share their thoughts in future issues of this Newsletter. World Christian Broadcasting
