Visual and beautiful. “Close to Home” – local flora and fauna One 1 ½ hour session (Friday AM) Rick Bunting presents on local flora and fauna found in the area, photos with stories to go along Facilitator for “Introduction to Local Birds” and “Close to Home” – local flora and fauna Rick Bunting is a professor of Emeritus from the Crane School of Music and an avid amateur naturalist. “Erie Canal Lore” One 1 hour session (Friday AM) Edward Kruser gives a brief history on the Erie Canal and associated feeders on the history of N.Y. A look at early travel and the need for improvements in transportation. Facilitator for “Erie Canal Lore” Edward Kruser a long time history buff with a BA and Masters in History Education. He taught NYS History to 7th graders for 32 years at Delaware Academy and led a an after school program for junior historians for 30 years. Since retiring has done numerous presentations on local history. “Chocolate Molding & Decorating ” One 1 hour session (Friday AM) Students will be dabbling in the art of chocolate melting, molding and decorating. - maximum 6 students (Extra $10.00 charge for supplies to be paid to teacher day of class.) “Archery Basics” One 1 hour session (Friday AM, repeating Friday PM and Saturday PM) This workshop is designed as a basic level archery class that focuses on fundamentals and fun in archery. - maximum 10 students (All equipment provided) Facilitator for “Intro to Archery” John Hannum is an employee of Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Administrator of 4-H Camp. He has been a teacher of archery for the past 5 years at 4C-Camp, as well as teaching to 4-Hers. “Gourd Art” THIS IS A TWO PART WORKSHOP, MUST PARTICIPATE IN BOTH PARTS PART I, 1 hour and PART II, 1 ½ hours (Friday AM) Learn how to make gourds into works of art and useful items – baskets, vases, bowls, animal figurines, dolls, masks, etc. Growing and preparing gourds, designs, tools, and techniques will be demonstrated. Everyone will make their own bowl or basket to take home. Handouts provided. Workshop participants need to bring a paint shirt and rubber gloves for dying. - maximum 8 students (new students given first option) (Extra $6.00 charge for supplies to be paid to teacher day of class.) Muffy, a former Social Worker, now enjoys folk art from furniture to floor cloth and shares this interest in gourds with her husband, Harry, a gourd artist. “Fun With Fabrics” One 1 ½ hour session (Friday AM, repeating Saturday AM and Saturday PM) Students will sew with machines, making their choice of pillows, pillow cases, pot holders and table runners. She grew up in Andes, and taught kindergarten 20 years in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Handmade Greeting Cards” One 1 ½ hour session Friday AM Participants will create handmade greeting cards using rubber stamps, inks, paper and paper crafting tools. - maximum 10 students Facilitator for “Handmade Greeting Cards” Ellen Alex, a former camper, has extensive background in teaching arts and crafts to girl scouts, Sunday school students and disabled adults. She has been making cards and designing scrapbooks for 6 years. “The Art of Comfort Touch” One 1 ½ hour session Friday AM. Comfort Touch is a style of massage that gives special consideration to the physical and emotional needs of each of us. It provides comfort through techniques that promote deep relaxation and relief from pain. It can enhance the quality of life of anyone in need of a caring touch. Though practiced by certified massage therapist and health care professionals, anyone can learn to practice it. Students will learn some basics in applying Comfort Touch. Facilitator for “The Art of Comfort Touch” Bernadette Winters Bell LMSW is the Assistant Director of Bereavement for Catskill Area Hospice and Pallative Care (serving Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties) with over 15 years in hospice work. She provides individual counseling in homes, hospitals and long term care facilities in addition to Pre Bereavement and Bereavement Support groups for families and staff. “Home Drying of Herbs and Food” One 1 ½ hour session Friday AM. This class will provide an introduction to home drying of food including choosing and preparing food for dehydration and making herbal rub for vegetables and meats. Facilitator for “Home Drying of Herbs and Food” Jeanne Darling, Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Delaware County has a B.S. from Cornell University and a Masters from SUCO, She is responsible for the nutrition education programs of CCE including answering questions on preserving food safety. Finding Yourself in the Rhythm of the Drum One 2 hour session (Friday PM), repeated again for one 1 hour session (Friday PM) This workshop will go over the basics and history of West African style drums and drumming. This will be followed by technique instruction for sitting and playing the drum. A traditional West African rhythm or 2 will be taught, as well as improv style. Drums will be provided. Former Manager of 4-H Camp Shankitunk and Director of Recreation for the Village of Delhi. “Finding Your Hidden Story Teller” One 2 hour session Friday PM. This workshop will teach how to evoke the stories that we hold deep within ourselves and how to tell th ese stories to delight. (Later Friday evening Dr. Beetlestone will lead storytelling around the campfire.) Facilitator for “Finding Your Hidden Story Teller” Dr. Claire Beetlestone is a semi-retired physician and world traveler, daughter of teachers, journalists and psychologists and mother of five. She has been collecting and crafting and telling stories to delight and entertain and inform.

“Acrylic Landscape Painting – NYS Landscapes” One 2 hour session (Friday PM) Learn to enjoy the beauty of New York State and be able to paint what you see using acrylics. Jeanette works with students on painting NYS landscape scenes this year. - maximum 12 students/minimum 4 students (Extra $3 charge to be paid to teacher day of the class. Supplies provided, bring a paint shirt) Facilitator for “Acrylic Landscape Painting – NYS Landscapes” Jeanette Koji has been painting for over 30 years and has taken classes at NYU and Pratt. She has a background in commercial art, textile design, wall covering design, and greeting card design. She enjoys painting scenes of upstate NY which include folk art painting. She is a member of the Delhi Art Group, Cooperstown Art Association, and the Brush and Pallet Club of Cooperstown. Her paintings can be found in various collections in California; Florida; Vermont; Washington, DC; New York; New Hampshire; and Japan. She has been teaching for five years at the Delhi Senior Community. “The Fabric Art of Primitive Rug Hooking” One 2 hour session (Friday PM) Hear the history of rug hooking and hook a small item from a choice of several projects. - maximum 10 students/minimum 6 students (Extra $8 charge for supplies to be paid to teacher day of class. She has participated in water exercise classes at SUNY Delhi. “WholeLisa Approaches to Wellness: An Introduction to Reiki” One 1 hour session (Friday PM, repeating Saturday PM) Attendees will be made aware of what Reiki is and isn’t; its history and benefits to the recipients’ physical, mental and spiritual health. A few participants will be able to experience Reiki during class while others observe. Facilitator for “WholeLisa Approaches to Wellness: An Introduction to Reiki” Lisa Worden, R.N. camp nurse and Reiki Master and teacher runs her own business “WholeLisa Approaches to Wellness” providing Reiki services. “Pathfinding/Orienteering with Map & Compass” One 1 hour session (Saturday AM) Learn how to use a compass and topographic map through fun games and real practice in a simulated wilderness situation. “Navajo Collections” Come hear the music One 1 hour session (Saturday AM) Come hear the music, make fry bread, listen to stories, view exhibits of jewelry, rugs, pottery, framed art and artifacts collected during visits to the Navajo Nation in the Southwest U.S. Moira will share her collection and stories from her travels.

“Worship Service” 1 one-hour session (Sunday AM) We will gather together for singing, praying, and a brief message. Facilitator for “Navajo Collections” and “Worship Service” Moira Beach, during her 33 years at SUCO, participated in many field trips in the Southwest U.S. with students and adults in eco-education travels, gaining knowledge about Native Americans and collecting art, crafts and artifacts. Moira Beach completed a lay speaker school and a Walk to Emmaus, and hopes to gather with others on Sunday morning for a worship service. “Introduction to Jewelry Making” One 1 hour session (Saturday AM) Participants will learn how to make beaded pieces and repairs. - maximum 10 students (Extra $5 charge for supplies to be paid to teacher day of class.) Facilitator for “Introduction to Jewelry Making” Cara Vaughan has loved making jewelry for many years and has created a beautiful collection from earrings to necklaces. She will show how simple it is to make beautiful jewelry in a short period of time. “Handmade Decorative Light Switch Covers” One 1 hour session (Saturday AM) Each participant will make two light switch covers to take home. “Decorative Miniature Gardens” One 2 hour session (Saturday PM) Using creativity to make decorative container gardens using any subject matter i.e. Native American village, fairy garden, farm, beach, whatever your imagination can create. Gardens will include natural things found at camp. (Bring your own garden container, be creative in your selection, i.e. and old birdbath, drawer, large flower pot; potting soil to fill your container; miniatures your want to use in your garden (we will also have supplies); workshop will supply the plants and decorations. Extra $10 charge for plant supplies to be paid to teacher day of class. No charge if you bring your own plants.)

Facilitator for “Handmade Decorative Light Switch Covers” and “Decorative Miniature Gardens” Debi Cotton has been making various arts and crafts since her teens and has taught various crafts. She loves miniatures and is excited about seeing everybody’s garden creations. “Intro to Blacksmithing” – group project THIS IS A FOUR PART WORKSHOP, MUST PARTICIPATE IN ALL FOUR PARTS. PART 1, 2, 3 and 4 (all day Saturday) Join us in making something to give back to Camp Shankitunk. (Available lab time Sunday.) This workshop will cover the four basic actions that can be performed while forging – Bending/Twisting, Upsetting/Tapering, Punching/Piercing and Forge Welding. The workshop will also outline the tools and equipment used to accomplish these tasks and safe procedures for using them. Handouts will be included on how to construct ones own propane gas forge. - maximum 5 students /minimum 1 student (all equipment and supplies provided) Facilitator for “Intro to Blacksmithing” Peter Booth has been practicing Blacksmithing since 1993. He started in the seacoast of New Hampshire making historical signs, railings, gates, strap hinges, etc. He was the demonstrating resident blacksmith at a historical museum in NH and conducted several hands on workshops for adults. “Walking the Labyrinth as a Creative Journey” One 1 ½ hour session (Saturday AM) Using the previously constructed 40 foot labyrinth on the camp grounds participants will experience a meditative walk to meet their “inner guide”, the Fire In Your Heart” that is responsible for creativity and self-expression. “Walk of Gratitude for the Day” One hour (Saturday PM) There will be a “Walk of Gratitude for the Day”. Using the previously constructed 40- foot labyrinth on the camp grounds, participants will experience a meditative walk as a physical representation of the sun’s movement through our day, hour by hour meditating as we walk the 7 turns on the path; each path symbolizing the rhythm of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experiences throughout the day. Shirley has taught children and adults painting and drawing for over 30 years. She is currently painting and print making in Oneonta with an interest in Labyrinths. “An Historic Look at Death & Dying Through Cemetery Art” One 1 ½ hour session (Saturday AM ) Marianne will include a multi-page handout for participants with biological and cleaning information, do’s and don’ts of gravestone rubbing and she will talk on specific gravestones including the Carver know as “Coffin Man.” Bring rain gear, class will be held rain or shine.

“Orchid History & Cultivation” One 1 ½ hour session (Saturday AM, repeats Saturday PM ) Discuss the different species of orchids, their cultivation and a little history about how we came to have orchids. Further instruction on care of orchids, orchid growing mediums, propagation of orchids and how they propagate in the wild.

Facilitator for “An Historical Look at Death & Dying Through Cemetery Art” Marianne Greenfield – Secretary on the Board of the Association for Gravestone Studies. Marianne gives talks throughout the Southern Tier on care of gravestones and cemeteries. She is a 17 year member of the Association for Gravestone Studies and has had training in basic Gravestone Conservation. She uses only D/2 Biological Cleaning Solution recommended by the National Parks Service and used exclusively in Arlington National Cemetery with water and nonabrasive hand tools to clean gravestones and monuments.

Facilitator for “Orchid History & Cultivation” Ramona Woodruff has an MBA in Business Administration and a degree in Graphic Design. She has been raising and cultivating orchids for about 10 years and currently has 159 different species in her collection. She has taught this workshop at Delhi ACE Hardware. “My Backyard Stream: How Can I Contribute to Overall Watershed Stream Health” One 1 ½ hour session (Saturday AM) In our attempts to beautify our backyards we sometimes unwittingly do things that can compromise stream health, affect our neighbors and even affect flooding. This short workshop will feature simple practices that allow both for our enjoyment and stram health along everybody’s property. Facilitator for “My Backyard Stream : How Can I Contribute to Overall Watershed Stream Health” Scotty Gladstone, retiree from 31 years of service with Delaware County, as Assistant Public Works Commissioner and Solid Waste Director. Scotty more recently retired from Delaware County Soil & Water Conservation District Stream Program Coordinator which involved public education on natural stream management including backyard streamside management for homeowners.

“Basic Line Dancing” One 2 hour session (Saturday PM) Sandie and Audie will teach basic line dancing to all workshop participants increasing difficulty according to the ability of the students. They intersperse fun novelty dances throughout and offer a relaxed fun atmosphere to learn in. Facilitator for “Basic Line Dancing” Sandie and Audie Ruscoe both retired in 1998, living half the year in New Berlin, NY and the other half in Smyrna Beach, Florida. They have been teaching line dancing for 10 years. “Spend time finishing your project or getting extra help from teachers” One 2 hour session (Sunday AM) Sunday morning, instructors from various workshops will be available to assist you in finishing your projects or getting extra help or exploring the subject in more depth.
