Text Boxes   

A text box can be inserted into a document to provide a quote or to emphasize an important point. A text box can be a simple box or customized as desired. A Sidebar is a special type of text box.

Inserting a Text Box     

Click in the document where the text box is to be placed. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Text group, click on Text Box and choose the desired type of text box. Type or paste in the desired text in the text box. The text box expands for fit the text.

Drawing a Text Box       

A text box can be added by drawing it in the desired location. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Text group, click on Text Box and choose Draw Text Box. Click and drag in the document to create the text box in the desired location and of the desired size. Type or paste in the desired text in the text box. Note: A drawn text box does not expand to fit text that is entered. Note: The text wrap of a drawn text box is In Front of Text.

Formatting the Text in the Text Box    

Highlight the text in the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Home tab. In the Font group, use the tools to format the text as desired. In the Paragraph group, use the tools to position the text in the text box as desired. Page 2

Text Wrap of a Text Box    

How text wraps around the text box can be adjusted. Click on the text box. Click on the Layout Options button next to the text box. Square or Tight are the usual choices.

Text Wrapping with the Ribbon     

Text wrapping can be done with the Ribbon. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Wrap Text and choose the desired wrap. Square or Tight are the usual choices.

Text Wrapping by Right Clicking    

Text wrapping can be done by right clicking. Right click on the border of the text box. Choose Wrap Text, and then choose the desired wrap. Square or Tight are the usual choices.

Resizing a Text Box  The size of a text box can be adjusted.  Click in the text box.  Move the cursor over a button at the corner or in the middle of one of the sides. (The cursor changes to a two-headed arrow.)  Click and drag to the desired size. Rotating a Text Box     

A text box can be rotated. Click on the text box. Click on the circular arrow above the text box and drag to the desired angle OR on the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Rotate Objects and choose the desired rotation.

Placement of a Text Box    

The text box can be moved to the desired location on the page. Click in the text box. Place the cursor over the border of the text box. (The cursor becomes a four-headed arrow.) Drag the text box to the desired location on the page.

Text Box Position on the Page    

 

The position of a text box on the page can be set to one of nine static positions. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Position and choose the desired position of the text box. o Position in Top Left with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Top Center with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Top Right with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Middle Left with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Middle Center with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Middle Right with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Bottom Left with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Bottom Center with Square Text Wrapping o Position in Bottom Right with Square Text Wrapping The text box wrap is set to Square and the text box is placed in the selected location on the page. To change the position of the text box on the page, click on the text box and drag it to the desired location.

Modifying a Text Box  

A text box can be changed in various ways. Some of the changes that can be made include changing the direction of the text, the shape of the text box, the fill color, the outline color, and various effects such as a shadow, reflection, or glow.

Changing the Text Direction     

The direction of the text in the text box can be changed. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Text group, click on Text Direction and choose the desired direction. o The options include Horizontal, Rotate all text 90°, and Rotate all text 270°. Note: Text Direction Options… offers the same choices.

Changing the Text Box Shape      

The shape of the text box can be changed. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Insert Shapes group, click on Edit Shape. Click on Change Shape and choose the desired shape from the list. o The groups of shapes include Rectangles, Basic Shapes, Black Arrows, Equation Shapes, Flowchart, Stares and Banners, and Callouts. Adjust the size of the text box to fit the text.

Customizing a Shape  

A shape can be edited by changing the shape points. For more information, see Editing Shape Points (page 23).

Text Box Styles and Frames        

A text box can be given a frame or border of various styles. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, hold the mouse over each text box style to see a preview of the style applied to the text box. Use the up and down arrow buttons to scroll through the rows of styles. Use the More button to display all of the rows of styles. Click on the desired text box style. OR right click and use Styles.

Customizing the Text Box Style    

A text box style can be changed as desired. To change the fill of the text box, see Changing the Text Box Fill on page 5. To change the outline of the text box, see Changing the Text Box Outline on page 6. To change the effects applied to the text box, see Changing the Text Box Effects on page 6.

Changing the Text Box Fill      

The fill of the text box can be changed. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Fill and choose the desired color. Clicking on More Fill Colors… provides more choices of colors. Note: If No Fill is selected the text box will be transparent and anything behind can be seen.

Filling the Text Box with a Picture        

A text box can be filled with a picture. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Fill and choose Picture…. Navigate to the location of the desired picture and click on it. Click on Insert. Since the size of the picture is adjusted to fill the text box, adjustments may be necessary. To adjust picture in the text box: o Adjust the dimensions of the text box as needed. o Click on the Picture Tools Format tab. o In the Adjust group, click on Corrections and choose the desired option. o In the Adjust group, click on Color and choose the desired option.

Filling the Text Box with a Gradient     

A text box can be filled with a gradient. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Fill and choose the desired color of the gradient. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Fill, choose Gradient, and then choose the desired gradient.

Filling the Text Box with a Texture      

A text box can be filled with a texture. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Fill, choose Texture, and then choose the desired texture. The texture is placed behind the text of the text box and adjustments may be needed. To adjust picture in the text box: o Click on the Picture Tools Format tab. o In the Adjust group, click on Corrections and choose the desired option. o In the Adjust group, click on Color and choose the desired option.

Changing the Text Box Outline       

The outline of the text box can be changed. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Outline. Choose the desired color for the outline. Clicking on More Outline Colors… provides more choices of colors. Note: Choosing No Outline removes the text box outline.

Changing the Thickness of the Outline     

The thickness of the text box outline can be changed. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Outline. Click on Weight and choose the desired thickness of the outline. Choices range from ¼ pt to 6 pt.

Changing the Line Style of the Outline     

The style of line of the text box outline can be changed. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Outline. Click on Dashes and choose the desired style of line. Choices include a sold line and a variety of dash lines.

Changing the Text Box Effects  

Various effects can be applied to the text box. The choices include Preset, Shadow, Reflection, Glow, Soft Edges, Bevel, and 3-D Rotation.

Text Box Presets      

Presets are effects with different settings. Adjustments can be made to Presets. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects. Click on Preset and choose the desired option.

Text Box Shadow  Shadow gives the choice of a number of different shadows to be cast by the text box.  Click on the text box.  On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab.  In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects.  Click on Shadow and choose the desired option.  The options include various choice for Outer, Inner, or Perspective shadows.  For more Shadow options, see Shape Shadow on page 15. Text Box Reflection     

Reflection gives a number of different reflections of the text box. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects. For more Reflection options, see Shape Reflection on page 15.

Text Box Glow      

Glow gives a number of different glows for the text box. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects. Click on Glow and choose the desired glow. For more Glow options, see Shape Glow on page 15.

Text Box Soft Edges      

Soft Edges gives a number of different soft edges for the text box. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects. Click on Soft Edges and choose the desired size of the soft edge. For more Soft Edges options, see Shape Soft Edges on page 16.

Text Box Bevel      

Bevel gives a number of different bevels for the text box. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects. Click on Soft Edges and choose the desired bevel. For more Bevel options, see Shape 3-D Format on page 16.

Text Box 3-D Rotation  3-D Rotation gives a number of different 3-D rotations for the text box.  Click on the text box.  On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab.  In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Effects.  Click on 3-D Rotation and choose the desired 3-D rotation.  The three groups of options are Parallel, Perspective, or Oblique.  For more 3-D Rotation options, see Shape 3-D Rotation on page 17.

Sidebars   

A sidebar is a special type of text box. A sidebar has a title section at the top and a place for text. As indicated by the name, a sidebar usually is on the side of the page.

Inserting a Sidebar     

Click in the document. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Text group, click on Text Box and choose the desired type of sidebar. Click on Sidebar Title and enter the desired title. Click in the text area and type or paste in the desired text.

Formatting the Text in a Sidebar    

Highlight the text in the sidebar. On the Ribbon, click on the Home tab. In the Font group, use the tools to format the text as desired. In the Paragraph group, use the tools to position the text in the text box as desired.

Text Placement in a Sidebar     

Text can be placed in the sidebar in a number of ways. Click in the sidebar. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. To change the direction of the text: o In the Text group, click on Text Direction. o Choose the desired angle for the text. To change the alignment of the text: o In the Text group, click on Align Text. o Choose the desired alignment of the text. Page 8

Resizing a Sidebar  The size of a sidebar can be adjusted.  Click in the sidebar.  Buttons appear at the corners and the middle of each side.  Move the cursor over one of the buttons. (The cursor changes to a two-headed arrow.)  Click and drag to the desired size. Rotating a Sidebar   

A sidebar can be rotated but seems to work best when vertical or horizontal. Click in the sidebar. Click on the circular arrow and drag the sidebar to the desired angle.

Moving a Sidebar    

A sidebar can be moved to the desired location on the page. Click in the sidebar. Move the cursor to the edge of the sidebar. (The cursor changes to a four-headed arrow.) Click and drag the sidebar to the desired location.

Modifying a Sidebar     

A sidebar can be modified in many ways. To change the frame or border of a sidebar, see Text Box Styles and Frames on page 5. To change the fill of a sidebar, see Changing the Text Box Fill on page 5. To change the outline of a sidebar, see Changing the Text Box Outline on page 6. To change the effects of a sidebar such as the shadow, reflection, glow, soft edges, bevel, and/or 3-D rotation, see Changing the Text Box Effects on page 6.

Shapes   

A wide variety of shapes can be inserted into a document. Any of the shapes can be can have text placed in it. The groups of shapes include Lines, Rectangles, Basic Shapes, Block Arrows, Equation Shapes, Flowchart, Stars and Banners, and Callouts.

Inserting a Shape    

Click in the document where the shape is to be placed. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Illustrations group, click on Shapes and choose the desired shape. Click and drag in the document to draw the shape.

Resizing a Shape     

The size of a shape can be changed. Click on the shape. Buttons appear at the corners and the middle of each side. Move the cursor over one of the buttons. (The cursor changes to a two-headed arrow.) Click and drag to the desired size.

Rotating a Shape  A shape can be rotated.  Click on the shape.  Click on the circular arrow and drag the shape to the desired angle. Adjusting a Shape     

Some shapes can be adjusted in their shape and dimensions. For example, a six sided figure has a yellow box which can be adjusted to change the angle at that point. The six sided figure can be adjusted to have a wider top or a narrower top as seen in the examples to the right. Click on the shape. Click on the yellow box and adjust the shape as desired.

Adding Text to a Shape    

Text can be added to a shape. Right click on the shape and choose Add Text. Type in the desired text. Note: The shape does not expand to accommodate the text. The size of the shape or the size of the font may need to be adjusted to make all of the text visible in the shape.

Formatting the Text in a Shape  Highlight the text in the shape.  On the Ribbon, click on the Home tab.  In the Font group, use the tools to format the text as desired.  In the Paragraph group, use the tools to position the text in the shape as desired. Centering the Text in a Shape       

The text in a shape may not appear centered because of the line spacing in the document. Highlight the text in the shape. On the Ribbon, click on the Home tab. In the Paragraph group, click on Line and Paragraph Spacing and choose 1.0. In the Paragraph group, click on Line and Paragraph Spacing and choose Line Spacing Options…. In the Spacing section, click on the up or down arrow to adjust Before: and After: to 0 pt Click OK.

Changing the Text Direction in a Shape  

The direction of text in the shape can be changed. For information on text direction, see Changing the Text Direction on page 4.

Callouts  

A callout is a speech balloon that has a tail and a text area. The tail of the callout can be dragged to the mouth of the character to indicate who is speaking.

Inserting a Callout      

Click in the document where the callout is to be placed. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Illustrations group, click on Shapes, and in the Callouts section choose the desired callout. Click and drag in the document to draw the callout. Click in the callout and enter the desired text. Click on the yellow box on the tail of the callout and drag it to indicate the person who is speaking.

Changing the Shape    



A shape can be changed to another shape and the settings are given to the new shape. Click on the shape. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Insert Shapes group, click on Edit Shape, click on Change Shape, and choose the desired shape from the list. o The groups of shapes include Rectangles, Basic Shapes, Black Arrows, Equation Shapes, Flowchart, Stares and Banners, and Callouts. Adjust the size of the callout to fit the text.

Rotating/Flipping a Shape    



A shape can be rotated or flipped. Click on the shape. Click on the border of the shape. To rotate the shape: o Click on the circular arrow above the shape and rotate to the desired angle o OR on the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on Rotate Objects and choose the desired rotation. To flip a shape: o Click on a button on the side and drag it past the button on the opposite side until the desired shape is created o OR on the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on Rotate Objects and choose the desired flip, vertical or horizontal.

Modifying a Shape    

A shape can be changed in various ways. Some of the changes that can be made include changing the direction of the text, the fill color, the outline color, and various effects such as a shadow, reflection, or glow. There is a Quick Menu that appears when the border of the shape is right clicked. The Format Shape pane is a great place to do modifications to the shape.

Shape Quick Menu    



A shape can be changed quickly using the Quick Menu. Right click on a border of the shape. To choose a style: o Click on Style. o Click on the desired style. To choose a fill: o Click on Fill. o To fill with a color, click on the desired color. o To not fill the shape, click on No Fill. o To fill with a picture, click on Picture…, navigate to the location of the picture, select the picture, and then click on Insert. o To fill with a gradient, click on Gradient and choose the desired gradient. o To fill with a texture, click on Texture and choose the desired texture. To choose an outline:, o Click on Outline. o To outline with a color, click on the desired color. o To not outline the shape, click on No Outline. o To choose the thickness of the outline, click on Weight, and then choose the desired thickness. o To choose the style of line, solid or dashed, click on Dashes, and then choose the desired style of line.

Format Shape Pane    

  



The Format Shape pane has many options for working with text boxes, sidebars, and shapes. A shape that has text and a text box has choices for Shape Options and Text Options. Right click on a text box, sidebar, or shape and choose Format Text box There are three sections of Shape Options in the Format Shape pane. o Fill & Line provides options for changing the lines in a shape such as the border. o Effects provides options for changing the effects on a shape such as a shadow or rotation. o Layout & Properties provides options for changing the size or position of a text box. A shape that does not contain text will not have Text Options. A shape that had text but the text has been removed will still show Text Options. There are three sections of Text Options in the Format Shape pane. o Text Fill & Outline provides options for changing the fill and outline of the text. o Text Effects provides options for changing the effects on a text such as a shadow or rotation. o Layout & Properties provides options for changing the alignment of the text, the text direction, margins in the text box and/or the wrap of the text in the shape. Click on the desired section to display the tools available there.

Shape Fill & Line 

Fill & Line provides options for changing what fills or the border of an object.

Shape Fill         

  

Fill provides options for changing what fills an object. The Fill options will be grayed out if the object does not have an open area that can be filled. Right click on the border object and choose Format Shape…. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and click on Fill & Line. Click on the triangle in front of Fill to display the options. To have no fill in the object, click to select No fill. To have a solid fill in the object: o Click to select Solid fill. o Use Color and Transparency to create the desired fill. To fill the object with a gradient: o Click to select Gradient fill. o Make choices in Preset gradients, Type, Direction, Angle, and Gradient stops. To fill the object with a picture: o Click to select Picture or texture fill. o Click on File or Online. o Find the desired picture. o Click to select the picture. o Click on Insert. To use a pattern, click on the Texture down arrow and choose the desired texture. o Make choices in Transparency, Tile Picture as texture, Offset, Scale, Alignment, and Mirror type. To fill the object with a pattern fill: o Click to select Pattern fill. o Make choices in Pattern, Foreground, and Background. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Line      



Line provides options for changing the lines in an object such as the border. The arrow options will be grayed out if the object is not a line with an arrow(s). Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape…. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Fill & Line. Click on the triangle in front of Line to display the options. To make adjustments to the line: o Click on Color and choose the desired color. o Click and drag the sliders, enter a number, or use the up and down arrows to adjust Transparency, Width, Compound type, Dash type, Cap type, and/or Join type. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Effects  

Effects provides options for changing the effects on an object such as a shadow or rotation. The areas of Effects are Shadow, Reflection, Glow, Soft Edges, 3-D Format, 3-D Rotation, and Artistic Effects.

Shape Shadow      



Shadow provides the option of giving the object a shadow and controlling the shadow. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of Shadow. To use a preset shadow, click on Presets and choose the desired preset. To make adjustments to the shadow: o Click on Color and choose the desired color. o Click and drag the sliders, enter a number, or use the up and down arrows to adjust Transparency, Size, Blur, Angle, and/or Distance. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Reflection       

Reflection provides the option of giving the object a reflection and controlling the reflection. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of Reflection. To use a preset reflection, click on Presets and choose the desired preset. To make adjustments to the reflection: o Click and drag the sliders, enter a number, or use the up and down arrows to adjust Transparency, Size, Blur, and/or Distance. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Soft Edges       

Soft Edges provides the option of giving the object soft edges and controlling the soft edged. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of Soft Edges. To use a preset soft edge, click on Presets and choose the desired preset. To make adjustments to the soft glow: o Click and drag the slider, enter a number, or use the up and down arrows to adjust the Size. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape 3-D Format     

3-D Format provides the option of giving an object a 3-D format and controlling the 3-D format. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of 3-D Format. To put a bevel on the top: o Click on Top Bevel and choose the desired bevel. o Use the up and down arrows or enter a number to adjust the Width and Height of the bevel. To put a bevel on the bottom: o Click on Bottom Bevel and choose the desired bevel. o Use the up and down arrows or enter a number to adjust the Width and Height of the bevel. To adjust the depth of the bevel: o Click on Depth and choose the desired depth. o Use the up and down arrows or enter a number to adjust the Size. To adjust the contour of the bevel: o Click on Contour and choose the desired contour. o Use the up and down arrows or enter a number to adjust the Size of the contour. To choose the material, click on Material and choose the desied material. To adjust the lighting: o Click on Lighting and choose the desired lighting. o Use the up and down arrows or enter a number to adjust the Angle of the lighting. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Removing a 3-D Format      

The 3-D formatting can be removed. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of 3-D Format. Click on Reset. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape 3-D Rotation           

3-D Rotation provides the option of giving the object a 3-D rotation and controlling the 3-D rotation. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of 3-D Rotation. To use a preset 3-D rotation, click on Presets and choose the desied preset. The four groups of presets are No Rotation, Parallel, Perspective, and Oblique. Click on the desired rotation. Enter the desired number or use the arrows to adjust the X Rotation, the Y Rotation, the Z Rotation, and/or the Perspective. Distance from ground is used to raise the text box above the paper when a shadow is being used. Enter the desired number or use the arrows to adjust Distance from ground. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Removing a 3-D Rotation      

The 3-D rotation can be removed. Right click on border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of 3-D Rotation. Click on Reset. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Layout & Properties 

Layout & Properties provides options for changing the text in the shape or the alt text.

Shape Text Box          

Text Box provides the option of changing the text in the object. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Layout & Properties. Click on the arrow in front of Text Box. To choose the vertical alignment of the text in the object, click on the Vertical alignment down arrow and choose the desired alignment. To choose the text direction in the object, click on the Text direction down arrow and choose the desired alignment. Note: To change the text direction, Do not rotate text cannot be selected. Adjust the margins of the text in the object by using the arrows of entering the desired number for Left margin, Right margin, Top margin, and/or Bottom margin. To wrap the text in the shape, click to select Wrap text in shape. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Shape Alt Text        

Alt Text provides the option of entering alternate text for the object to help those with disabilities who cannot see the text box. Right click on the edge of the object and choose Format Shape. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Layout & Properties. Click on the arrow in front of Alt Text. Click in Title and enter a title for the shape. Click in Description and enter a description of the shape. The alt text will not be visible. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Editing Alt Text     

Right click on the text box and choose Format Shape. In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options, and then click on Layout & Properties. Click on the arrow in front of Alt Text. Click in Title and/or Description and make the desired changes. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Format Shape Text Options    

When text has been added to an object, the Format Shape Text Options are available. The three section of Text Options are Text Fill & Options, Text Effects, and Layout & Properties. Use caution in the choices that are made so that the text is still readable in the object. Note: Text Options are most effective on large text.

Text Fill & Outline 

Text Fill & Outline provides options for filling and/or outlining the text in an object.

Text Fill      





Text Fill provides the option of filling and/or outlining the text in an object. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Text Options, and then click on Text Fill & Outline. Click on the arrow in front of Text Fill. To not fill the text with a color, click to select No fill. To fill the text with a solid color: o Click to select Solid fill. o Click on Color and choose the desired color. o For more colors, click on Color, choose More Colors, and then choose the desired color. To fill the text with a gradient: o Click to select Gradient fill. o Click on Preset gradients and choose the desired preset. o Click on Color and choose the desired color. o Use the up and down arrows to adjust Position, Transparency, and/or Brightness. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Text Outline    

Text Outline provides the option of outlining the text in an object. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Text Options, and then click on Text Fill & Outline. Click on the arrow in front of Text Outline.

No Outline 

To not outline the text with a color, click to select No Outline.

Solid Color Outline  The text can have a solid color outline.  Click to select Solid line.  Click on Color and choose the desired color.  For more colors, click on Color, choose More Colors, and then choose the desired color.  Adjust the Transparency by clicking and dragging the slider, entering numbers, or using the up and down arrows.  Adjust the width of the line using the Width up and down arrows.  Adjust the style of the line by clicking on Compound type, Dash type, Cap type, and/or Join type and making the desired choices.  If there are arrows in the object, adjust them by clicking on and making choices for Begin Arrow type, Begin Arrow size, End Arrow type, and/or End Arrow size.

Gradient Outline        

The text can have a gradient outline. Click to select Gradient line. Click on Preset gradients and choose the desired preset. Use the up and down arrows to adjust Position, Transparency, and/or Brightness. Adjust the width of the line using the up and down arrows of Width. Adjust the style of the line by clicking on Compound type, Dash type, Cap type, and/or Join type and making the desired choices. If there are arrows in the object, adjust them by clicking on and making choices for Begin Arrow type, Begin Arrow size, End Arrow type, and/or End Arrow size. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

To keep the text flat, which is the same as no rotation, click to select Keep text flat. Distance from ground is used to raise the text above the paper when a shadow is being used. Enter the desired number or use the arrows to adjust Distance from ground. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Removing a 3-D Rotation      

The 3-D rotation can be removed. Right click on border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Text Options, and then click on Effects. Click on the arrow in front of 3-D Rotation. Click on Reset. To close the Format Shape pane, click on Close (X).

Text Layout & Properties 

Layout & Properties provides options for adjusting the text in the shape.

Text Box          

Text Box provides the option of changing the text in the object. Right click on the border of the object and choose Format Shape….. In the Format Shape pane, click on Text Options, and then click on Layout & Properties. Click on the arrow in front of Text Box. To choose the vertical alignment of the text in the object, click on the Vertical alignment down arrow and choose the desired alignment. To choose the text direction in the object, click on the Text direction down arrow and choose the desired alignment. Note: To change the text direction, Do not rotate text cannot be selected. Adjust the margins of the text in the object by using the arrows of entering the desired number for Left margin, Right margin, Top margin, and/or Bottom margin. Editing Shape Points          

How the text wraps around an object can be controlled very precisely by changing the wrap points. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Insert Shapes group, click on Edit Shape and choose Edit Points. Red lines appear around the text box with points marked at the corners. Move the mouse over a corner and drag it to the desired location. Text wrapping is controlled by the red line. To change the wrap in the middle of the line, click on the line and drag it to the desired location. To change the angle of a line, click on the hollow box and drag to the desired angle. Click away from the object.

Aligning Several Objects        

Several objects can be aligned with each other. More options are available when the text wrapping is not set to In Line with Text. Some options are only available when more than one object is selected. Arrange the objects in the document as desired. Click on one of the objects. Hold down the Control key and click on each of the other objects to be aligned. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Align and choose the desired alignment. o Align Left moves the left edge of the selected objects to line up with the left edge of the text box farthest to the left. o Align Center moves the selected objects to the middle and lines up the center of the objects. o Align Right moves the right edge of the selected objects to line up the right edge of the object farthest to the right. o Align Top moves the selected objects up to line up with the top of the object highest on the page. o Align Middle moves the selected objects to the center of the group with the middle of each objects lined up. o Align Bottom moves the selected objects down to line up with the bottom of the object lowest on the page. o Distribute Horizontally moves the selected object right or left to distribute the group evenly on the horizontal axis. o Distribute Vertically moves the selected objects up and down to distribute the group evenly on the vertical axis.

Setting an Object Position Precisely         

Click on the object. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Position and choose More Layout Options…. In the Horizontal section, select Alignment, Book Layout, Absolute position, or Relative position. Select the location or size and what it is relative to such as the margin or page. In the Vertical section, select Alignment, Absolute position, or Relative position. Select the location or size and what it is relative to such as the margin or page. In the Options group, make the desired choices. Click OK.

Layers of Objects       







When more than one object is placed on a page or slide, the objects are stacked in layers. The first object inserted is on the bottom of the stack and the last text box inserted is on the top of the stack. The layers are not apparent unless one object overlaps another. Insert the desired objects in the document. Arrange the objects as desired. The position of an object in the stack can be changed. To bring an object higher in the stack and over the top of another object: o Click on the object. o On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on Bring Forward. To bring an object to the top of the stack and over the top of other objects: o Click on the object. o On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on the Bring Forward down arrow and choose Bring to Front. To place an object lower in the stack and under another object: o Click on the object. o On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on Send Backward. To place an object on the bottom of the stack and under the other objects: o Click on the object. o On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. o In the Arrange group, click on the Send Backward down arrow and choose Send to Back.

Selection Pane            



   

The Selection pane simplifies organizing the layers of objects. Click on one of the objects. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Selection Pane. When the name of an object is clicked on, the object is selected in the document. When an object is visible in the document, the eye of the object is open. To make an object not visible, click on the eye. When an object is not visible in the document, the eye of the object is closed. To make an object that is not visible in the document visible, click on the eye. If a triangle is in front of an item, clicking on the triangle will collapse or expand the group. The position of an object in the stack can be changed. To move an object up in the stack: o Click on the object. o In the Selection pane, click on the up arrow. o Each click moves the object up one level. To place an object more to the bottom of the stack and under another object: o Click on the object. o In the Selection pane, click on the down arrow. o Each click moves the object down one level. To show all of the objects, click on Show All. To hide all of the objects, click on Hide All. To close the Selection pane, click on Close OR click on Selection in the Arrange group on the Drawing Tools Format tab to unselect it.

Grouping Objects      

Objects can be grouped so that they become a single unit, making it easier to move them while retaining the position of one relative to the others. Click on an object to be included in the group. Hold down the Control key and click on each object to be included in the group. In the Arrange group of the Drawing Tools Format tab, click on Group and choose Group. The group can be moved. Changes made to the group apply to all objects in the group.

Adding an Object to a Group    

An object can be added to a group. Click on the group. Hold down the Control key and click on the border of the object to be added to the group. In the Arrange group of the Drawing Tools Format tab, click on Group and choose Group.

Objects in a Group    

When a change is made to a group, the change is applied to all objects in the group. Changing the size of the group resizes all of the objects in the group. Click on the group. Make the desired changes to the objects in the group.

Changing an Object in a Group         

In order to make changes to just one object in a group, the group must be ungrouped. Click on the group. In the Arrange group of the Drawing Tools Format tab, click on Group and choose Ungroup OR right click on the group, choose Group, and then choose Ungroup. Click on the object to be changed. Make the desired changes to the object. Click on one of the objects that was in the group. In the Arrange group of the Drawing Tools Format tab, click on Group and choose Regroup OR right click on the group, choose Group, and then choose Group.

Advanced Text Wrapping More Text Wrapping Control       

How text wraps on the sides of the text box can be controlled. Click on the text box. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Arrange group, click on Wrap Text and choose More Layout Options…. In the Wrap text section, choose which sides of the text box the text can be on. In the Distance from text section, make adjustments to the distance the text is to be from the text box as desired. Click OK.

Changing Default Text Wrapping  Click on the File tab and then click on Options.  Click on Advanced.  Scroll to the Cut, copy and paste section.  Click on the down arrow in the box next to Insert/paste pictures as and choose Square or Tight.  Click OK.

Drawing Canvas 

A drawing canvas is an area of a document where shapes can be brought together and arranged as desired.

Creating a Drawing Canvas   

Click in the document where the drawing canvas is to be placed. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Illustrations group, click on Shapes and choose New Drawing Canvas. Page 27 Technology Integration Center Davis School District, Farmington, Utah 84025

Working in the Drawing Canvas    

The drawing canvas is created without an outline or a fill. It is a good idea to give the Drawing Canvas an outline to help identify it. This can be removed later if desired. Click in the drawing canvas. On the Ribbon, click on the Drawing Tools Format tab. In the Shape Styles group, click on Shape Outline and choose a color for the outline.

Adding Shapes to the Drawing Canvas      

Shapes can be added and arranged on the drawing canvas. Click in the drawing canvas. On the Ribbon, click on the Insert tab. In the Illustrations group, click on Shapes and choose the desired shape. Click in the drawing canvas and draw and desired shape. Add and arrange shapes as desired.

Resizing the Drawing Canvas  The size of the drawing canvas can be changed as desired.  Click in the drawing canvas.  Place the cursor over the button at the corner or the middle of a side. (The cursor changes to a two-headed arrow.)  Click and drag to the desired size. Text Wrap of the Drawing Canvas  

How text wraps around the drawing canvas can be adjusted. For more information, see Text Wrap of a Shape on page 12.

Moving the Drawing Canvas   

Click in the drawing canvas. Place the cursor over the edge of the drawing canvas. (The cursor changes to a four-headed arrow.) Click and drag the drawing canvas to the desired location in the document.
