WOMEN’S & GENDER STUDIES APPROVED COURSES

The Women’s & Gender Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program that offers a major, minor, and graduate certificate to students at West Virginia University. Students can take courses in this and other disciplines to meet their degree requirements. The courses in this list have been approved to meet these requirements. Women's & Gender Studies courses taken through other departments are approved as either Primary (P) or Component (C) courses. Primary courses are those in which the overall course content focuses on women’s and/or gender issues. These issues constitute a main theme of the course and permeate course content. Primary courses automatically count as part of the women’s & gender studies curriculum and fulfill requirements for the major or minor in this field. Component courses include significant analysis of women's and/or gender issues (at least one-third of course content), but these issues are not the main topic of the course. It is recommended that students taking a component course have the opportunity to focus their individualized work (i.e. papers, projects, book reviews, etc.) on women's and gender studies topics. Note: Instructors other than those listed below may be approved upon petition by the student. For more information contact Dr. Jennifer Orlikoff, Director, Center for Women’s & Gender Studies, at 304-293-2339 or [email protected].
