YOUTH BASKETBALL YOUTH BASKETBALL / WINTER LEAGUE The Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Co-Ed Basketball Program is one of the best in the area! The goal of the program is to provide the children with a basketball program that is fun and safe. Annually, we host over 300 youth basketball players in the program, with over 80 parent volunteers stepping up to coach. The philosophy of our basketball program is that every child gets a chance to play no matter their skill level or ability. We also strive to provide our players and parents a stress free environment to learn and have fun, where winning and losing is not the most important thing. Please encourage your child to show good sportsmanship towards the other players, officials, coaches, and spectators, and remember parents, that goes for you as well. All participants will be separated onto teams according to their grade and school. If you sign up by the deadline your child will be placed on a team with other students from their school (no guarantees after the deadline). If there are too many players from one school for one team they will be split onto two teams, as well as, if there are not enough players from one school to make a team they will be placed with students from other schools. All players must have a concussion form on file with Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department before they are able to participate. 10 weeks.

Coaches Needed! Interested in coaching or assisting youth basketball leagues? Apply at the Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department prior to the program deadline date. All applications are subject to background checks. Interested Coaches must attend a Mandatory Coaches meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 6:15pm the Kentwood Activities Center (355-48th St SE). If you plan on coaching you need to attend this meeting! Referees Needed! All youth basketball leagues are in need of referees. If you are at least 16 years old and want to apply, fill out an application or work permit at the Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department (355-48th St SE). These are paid positions starting at $9 per hour. A mandatory meeting will be scheduled at a later date.

I grew up on the east side of the state in Metro Detroit but after college fell in love with West Michigan. I attended Central Michigan University graduating with a double major in Therapeutic Recreation and Child Development. I’ve played several different sports throughout my life which helped me create my philosophy in recreation. That is why I’m excited to take on this new adventure hoping to help many people of all ages and disabilities be able to engage in different activities of their choice. I enjoy spending time with family and friends in my spare time as well as engaging in recreation activities of my own. I enjoy traveling and would one day like to visit Africa and Australia. I look forward to working with many of you in the future and hope if you have any program ideas you’ll bring them my way!
