Skating Fall 2016 / Winter2017 City of Belleville Recreational Skating Public Skating: This is a drop-in recreational skating program. Skating Aids will not be permitted during these times. City Ice Monitor staff will be present and rules must be obeyed. HELMETS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Skating aids are not permitted during public skating. Cost: $2.75/ per participant Family/Parent & Tot Skate: This is a drop-in recreational skating program for parents and their children. Skaters may share the ice with the adult skates. Family skaters must adhere to Public Skating Rules. Skating Aids will be permitted during these times ONLY. HELMETS & SKATES ARE MANDATORY FOR EVERYONE ON THE ICE. Cost: $2.75/ per participant

Senior Shinny Hockey This is a drop-in program for those seniors who wish to participate in shinny hockey. Full hockey equipment is recommended. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Cost: $5.50/session Adult Shinny Hockey This is a drop-in program for those adults who wish to participate in shinny hockey. Full hockey equipment is recommended. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY. Cost: $5.50/session Adult Public Skating This is a leisure skating program for adults 18 years old and above. This is not suitable for those who wish to figure or speed skate. HELMETS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Cost: $2.75/person/skate Figure Skating Practice For registered, insured FIGURE SKATERS and their COACHES, we offer a practice session. Coaches must be with their skaters to ensure safety on the ice by following these rules: Maximum 15 skaters on the ice, coaches cooperate with routines and music, no lifts, throws, or jumps should be performed during this practice time. Cost: $5.50/session

Skating Pre-School/ Discover Skate Learn to Skate Programs Our Pre-School & Discover Skate Programs offer recreational skating lessons for children ages three years old and up. Participants are grouped according to their skating ability. Lessons are 25 minutes long and Helmets, mittens or gloves are mandatory for all participants. A practice area is provided for those registered in our Learn to Skate programs and their caregiver. Practice time will be available either before or after their skating lesson. If your child has never

been on skates and/or needs assistance standing on skates, parents are welcome to bring their own skates and helmet to participate. ** The following are the guidelines that should be followed when registering your child in these “Learn to Skate” programs. Classes are organized by ages and levels (3-5 years & 6+ years).

Star 1: (Beginners) • Balance on two feet • Falling down, getting up • March on the spot • Walking and jumping • Forward glide • Stopping

Star 3: (Must be able to perform Star 2 Skills) • Forward slalom • Backward glide • Jumping • Front glide on curve • Forward circle thrusts on curve • Crossover in figure eight

Star 2: (Must be able to perform Star 1 Skills) • Skate backwards • Forward and backwards glides • Turning • Snowplow stop • Crossovers

Star 4: (Must be able to perform Star 3 Skills) • Backward jumps • Back glide on curve • Backward slalom • One foot spins • Backward circle thrusts • Backward crossovers

Skating Power Skating Improve your hockey game with skills that will improve your speed, balance, stopping, posture, stride and more. Full hockey gear is required. Participants must be able to skate. JOIN THE CLUB! Belleville’s 50+ Centre

Open to everyone 50 years or over! Monday to Friday | 9am – 4pm

Join us each day for fun and interesting activities. Meet new friends, learn new skills, enjoy some refreshments or use the computer room. 265 Cannifton Road, Belleville ON The cost is only $5.00 per year, renewable each January. Activities and programs include: Games Galore, Open Studio, Computer Courses, Bridge, COPD , Support Group, VON Falls Prevention Exercise Program, Parkinson's Keep Moving Exercise Program, Coffee Hour, Movie Nights, Stitches, Cribbage, Bid Euchre, Mah Jongg, Scrapbooking and more.

Activities take place each day and special speakers and events are scheduled to provide information on a variety of topics including medical, financial, travel and more. If you have a program idea or you are interested in volunteering to work with others please call the office at 613-966-4632.
