Merced County Academic Decathlon 2012 Awards Ceremony
Robert Wayne Scholarships These scholarships are named for Mr. Robert Wayne, one of the founders of the Merced County Academic Decathlon. He was the board treasurer for many years and never missed a meeting. He also convinced the Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union to match each team’s entry fee to fund these scholarships. Upon his retirement from the Decathlon Board due to ill health, the board decided to name their annual scholarships in honor of Mr. Wayne’s tireless effort on behalf of the students of Merced County. I am sad to report that Mr. Wayne passed away several years ago. His contribution to the students of Merced County lives on in this competition. These scholarships are given to three students in each team. $500 is awarded to the highest scoring student on the team. The highest scoring students in the other two divisions each receive a $250 scholarship. These scholarships are available to the winners for college expenses.
