As a follow-up to the Katwijk & IJmuiden definition studies, INTECSEA has continued work for Shell Renewables to look at alternative foundation designs for the Katwijk location. Several tripod concepts have been modeled and evaluated in terms of structural robustness, constructability, and installability. A larger 5 MW turbine specified by Shell is assumed for this study. One of these concepts has been selected for further design optimization. The results of the study will be used as input to the client’s proposal to the Dutch government for subsidy. The work is being performed in cooperation with the Offshore Wind group and Delft Technical University (TUDelft). TUDelft is performing the turbine analyses to define the load cases, while INTECSEA is using ANSYS and Mathcad tools to perform the structural analysis and optimization of the foundation structure.
