Who We Are The Alternative Healing Network, Inc. is a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the accessibility and increasing the use of alternative healing arts, while working to “integrate” these practices with Western medicine for a new standard in health care. When the wildfires struck San Diego and 10,000 people were evacuated to Qualcomm Stadium, we were there coordinating a team of volunteer acupuncture, massage, and other integrative health practitioners. Later, we expanded our efforts to the Gillespie Field staging area and the Ramona evacuation facility offering free alternative medical care to firefighters, evacuees, and emergency support staff alike. In all, we were responsible for over 1,000 free treatments in two weeks. We have always been dedicated to this community and continue to work for the betterment of San Diego’s healthcare. Since 2004, we have produced the educational and free, San Diego Healing Arts Festival to promote integrative healing arts and healthy lifestyle choices to the public. By combining these healthy practices with music, (one of the greatest healing arts in the World) we have made what may once have been foreign concepts, into easily accessible additions to daily life.

History of the Festival: The San Diego Healing Arts Festival (SD HAF) began in 2004 as a student council event for the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Former talent agent and acupuncture student, Ryan Altman, had a vision of bringing together music with healing arts in a way that made both accessible to the public. Some would come for the healing aspect and be turned on to the music and others would come for the music and be exposed to healthier lifestyle choices. The first SD HAF hosted approximately 2,500 participants and 28 exhibitors on the War Memorial Lawn along the Northern edge of Balboa Park. In 2006, the 2nd SD HAF, (now an annual event) moved South to the lawn at Park Blvd. & President’s Way. We welcomed nearly 5,500 participants and over 40 exhibitors. The 2007 San Diego Healing Arts Festival was our largest event to date, bringing over 60 exhibitors and over 12,000 participants in a single day! We have successfully doubled our attendance each year and expect to grow exponentially in the years to come. Don’t miss this year’s amazing event. We look forward to seeing you all out in Balboa Park this May!

Integrative Community Health Program: In 2007, we began a series of “integrative health nights” for the underserved communities of City Heights and Southeastern San Diego. There, we offer free massage, acupuncture, energy healing, classes in yoga, qi gong, and nutrition as well as Western medical exams and consultations. These operate bi-weekly out of pre-existing community centers and host between 60-100 participants each month. Within six months we will also host the first Market Creek Healing Arts Festival, in the heart of Southeast San Diego. Here we’ll have a 500 cap. amphitheater, a 50’ x 80’ workshop/massage area, and space for exhibits and sponsor demos. This event will take the concepts from the Balboa Park festival and bring them directly to those who otherwise may never be exposed to them.

Sponsor opportunities are also available for these events!
