Starting this September, the Adult Services Department is offering a new popular reading service, Authors On Demand. Adult Services has created a list of their most in-demand authors, and will automatically place a hold for a Matteson card holder on a print edition of their favorite author’s newest titles. For a complete list and to register for the service please visit the Adult Services Desk or call the library at 708-748-4431.

The library is pleased to announce that this year it will be hosting, in partnership with TRIAD, the 2015 Senior Oktoberfest Fair. This year's theme is , Who is Knocking on Your Door - The Runway Show. Seniors will be entertained and informed about what to expect when policeman, fireman or utility providers come knocking on their front door. Breakfast and prizes will be provided as well as a great time. Registration is open to 100.

Meditation and Forgiveness: Healing the Heart October 20, 2015: 7:00 PM (R)

Grown Up Game Days (R) This fall, the Adult Services Department is offering two different grown up game options for our adult patrons. On Sundays, the library will host everyone’s favorite word game – Scrabble. All ages are welcome for this friendly but competitive afternoon of fun. Next, on Wednesday afternoons, the library will host a bid whist game program. Seating is limited for bid whist to only 12 participates per day.

CPR Class

How prepared are you in case of a life threatening emergency? The American CPR and Safety Training, LLC will teach a class on CPR and AED for $75.00. This will certify you for two years. Children/Teen Classes Toddler Dance Party

1000 Books Before Kindergarten • Ages: Any child too young to be enrolled in Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a library program that encourages all families and caregivers to read at least 1000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten. In as little as 15 minutes a day, families can build the skills for future school and life success. Each child will receive a reading log to record the books they read. Special recognition will be given at every 100 books read.

Born to Read Storytime

• Ages: Birth-36 Months with Caregiver • Tuesdays: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM • September 8, 15, 22, 29 and November 3, 10, 17 & 24

Our littlest library users can come and dance their hearts out at a party filled with fun, games, and lots of bubbles! Costumes may be worn but are not required. Registration begins 10/1.

Preschool Dance Party

• Ages: 3-5 • Thursday, 10/29 • Pick 10:00 AM OR 6:00 PM Bring your dancing shoes to the library and get ready to boogie. Get movin and groovin', and shaking our sillies with our jammin' librarians at our Preschool Dance Party! Costumes may be worn but not required for the October party. Registration for begins 10/1.

Storytime Explorers

• Ages: 3-5 • Thursdays at 10:00 AM • Starting September 10 until December 10

Join us for this first playgroup experience with stories, songs, and baby games. Come read to your little ones, meet fellow parents, and introduce your little ones to new friends! No registration required. Daycare groups are not permitted at this one-on-one program.

Preschoolers will explore, discover, and learn every Thursday as each program introduces them to the world around them through movement, games, stories, and S.T.E.A.M. activities. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Registration starts now. Daycare groups must contact Nikeda at 708-748-4431 before attending.

Miss Anna’s Music Class

Stem On the Go

• Ages: 6 Months - 5 Years • Tuesdays at 10:00 AM • October 6, 13 & 20 Come for a lively session of musical fun for children ages 6 months to 5 years (with adult). This class will stimulate imagination & creativity. Rhythm instruments will be provided. Registration begins 9/15.

Ms. Susan and Mr. Joseph will once again be visiting each school with S.T.E.M. On The Go. S.T.E.M. On The Go is a hands-on 40 minute program teaching students in Preschool through 6th grade about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This fall our theme is robotics. Kids in Preschool through 2nd grade will get an introduction to basic robotic programming, and the 3rd through 6th graders will be building simple robots. We look forward to working with your kids in the upcoming school year.

Cook-A-Book Goes to Outer Space!

• Grades: K - 5th Grade • Select Saturdays at 11:00 AM • 09/12, 10/10 & 11/14 Join us for stories, food, and fun related to outer space. Students will hear stories and explore facts regarding the planets and the moon. Sign up for a chance to prepare yummy snacks such as Orange Jupiter, Rockmelon Strawberry Rockets, Moon Rocks, and other special "outer space" treats. You can now register for the September class. Registration for future classes begins on the date of the previous month’s class.

Dan Laib Drawing Class

• Grades: 3rd-5th • Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10:00 AM Dan Laib will be on hand to walk students through drawing basics up to the more advanced concepts of expressive drawing. In addition to the group instruction, he will be available for one-on-one instruction and Q&A time. Registration begins 9/1.

The Bored Room

• Age: 10 & up • Starting September 8 to December 3 • Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 • Hours might be extended on selected school holidays. Are you looking for something fun to do afterschool? Drop by the Bored Room (meeting room C) where you can Create, Imagine, Play, and Explore. Snacks will be available for purchase. Space is limited, first come first serve. No registration is required but you will need to sign in when you visit the room.

3D Saturdays

• Ages: 12 and up • 1:00-3:00 PM • September 19 & November 20 Curious about our 3D printers? Drop-in to get some basic information about 3D printing and see our 3D printer in action. No registration required.

Girl Power Book Discussion Let Your Light Shine Bright!

• Grades: 4th-6th • First Thursday of each month • 6:30 – 7:30 PM Super sleuths are needed for exciting adventures, solving strange mysteries, secret spy missions, and investigating crimes. WARNING: you may encounter danger, weird creatures, and international intrigue. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to read the book before the meeting, enjoy snacks, and do a S.T.E.A.M. related activity with your fellow detectives. Join us for this fun new club! Join us to learn the entire clothes making process from a paper sketch to our runway show in April 2016. Both machine and hand sewing will be taught. Important: Participants will need to supply the material, either new or recycled, they will use to create their designs. The library will supply access to inspiration, an instructor, sewing machines, and basic sewing supplies. It is strongly recommended that every participant brings their own high quality scissors for cutting fabric. Registration starts now. Once registered, you can attend all classes.

Teens Top Ten Book Discussion • Ages: 12-18 • Select Mondays: 7:00-8:00 PM

Larping LARP Capture the Flag • Grades: 6th-12th • Sunday, October 18 • 2:00-4:00 PM Held outside, this live action role play event will allow you to really get into the game. Every player will be either a monster or monster hunter who assists their team as they capture the other team’s flag. The library will provide all the game materials, feel free to dress for the team of your choice. Registration begins 10/1.

S.T.E.A.M. Science, Technology, Engineering, ART, and Math!

S.T.E.M. plus ART helps develop 21st century skills of creativity and critical thinking. Join us for this hands-on science club. Registration for September classes starts now. Register for future classes on the date of the previous month’s class.

Looking for a great pet for your child or a companion for yourself? The South Suburban Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of animals in Chicago's south suburbs and will be at the Library for a Pet Adoption Fair. Family Read Aloud Saturdays

Select Saturdays at 1:00 PM Join us for a relaxing afternoon listening to a story for the whole family. The book will be available to check out so you can finish reading aloud as a family at home. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills and is a great way to help kids develop their love of books. We’ll start a new book each month, enjoy some munchies, and provide fun book activities. Registration for the September class now. It is almost flu season again! Stop by the library on Columbus Day and visit with the Walgreens Flu Shot Clinic for your annual flu shot. The clinic will be here from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Walgreens will handle all of the insurance paperwork and payments. The costs for the shots are determined by Walgreens. This is a first come, first served program.

Do It Yourself: Edible Christmas Gifts December 1, 2015 : 7:00 PM (R) Did you ever think of making an edible Do It Yourself Christmas gift? Well, stop in at the library, and we will show you how to make several different gifts that will help save money and delight your friends and family. Registration will be limited to 20 seats.

Holiday Gift Wrapping Holiday gift wrapping will be available for a donation from December 1st through December 18th. Please contact the library for additional information.

In Other News... Your Journey Starts Here: Passport Service Starting September 8, 2015,the Library will be an official Passport Acceptance Facility for the U.S. Department of State. We offer passport processing services everyday of the week. No appointment necessary! Passport Service Hours M-Th - 9:30 AM - 7:00 PM F & S - 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM and Labor Day to Memorial Day Sunday - 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Please note: The passport application process will take from 20-60 minutes per applicant. To ensure there is ample time to complete the process, please arrive at least 30 minutes before the office closes. More time may be needed for complex cases involving citizenship, parental guardianship, or last-minute travel. In the event that a passport acceptance agent believes the process cannot be completed prior to the library closing, you may be requested to return at another time. For more information on passports and international traveling go to travel.state.gov.

5K Costume Dash Fundraiser

October 17, 2015 This October, please run or walk in our new annual 5K Costume Dash for all ages. Have fun running or walking in your awesome costume. Costumes are optional! Registration: 7:30-8:30 AM. Children: 8:30 AM | Adults: 9AM. \ Adults-18+ (Children 3 & under free with registered Adult): $20 \ Seniors-60+: $18 \ Teens-12-17: $14 \ Children-5-12: $7 \ T-shirts additional $5 fee If purchasing tickets at the 5K there will be an additional $2 fee. Keep an eye on our website for updates on registration. We are looking for sponsors to help fund the event! Disney’s The Lion King Bus Trip December 06, 2015

5:30 - 10:15 PM

There are 36 tickets available for the live theater production of Disney’s The Lion King. Join us for a bus trip to the beautiful Cadillac Theater for this wonderful production of the classic Disney movie. Tickets are $53.00 for the musical and the transportation for the evening. This would make a great early Christmas present for the kids, grandkids, or maybe just for you! Don’t wait, tickets are limited!
