WHAT IS THE MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL?

In 2017, Melbourne's iconic DGS arts and culture festival, Midsumma Festival, will be celebrating its 30th year of operations. Melbourne should expect a bigger and louder federation of arts that encompass all aspects of the DSG community. The 2017 Midsumma Festival will run from Sunday 15 January to Sunday 5 February, kicking off with the ever popular Midsumma Carnival and T Dance at Alexandra Gardens. Alongside Midsumma Carnival and T Dance, individuals and organisations can once again show their pride down St Kilda's Fitzroy Street during Pride March on Sunday 29 January. Gasworks Arts Park is one of Midsumma's largest hubs. We want you to be involved!

HOW DOES GASWORKS ARTS PARK FIT INTO THIS?

Gasworks Arts Park has been involved with Midsumma Festival as a venue hub for more than 10 years. We often stage several productions at a time with a curated mix of both Gasworks Produced productions and independent Theatre Hire. Our objectives are to hold a diverse, inclusive program that appeals to a large demographic.

WHATS HAPPENING AT GASWORKS FOR MIDSUMMA 2017?

During the 2017 Midsumma Festival, Gasworks Arts Park will be undergoing renovations in our two Theatres which has presented us with an opportunity to offer something truly unique in the way of a venue. Gasworks will be erecting an outdoor tent to be used as a performances space. It will sit among sideshows such as Penny Candy Caravan, 10 minute Dance Party Caravan, a 12 metre inflatable rainbow, an outdoor bar and so much more. This Carnival atmosphere will all exist within the beautiful outdoor setting of Gasworks Arts Park to be enjoyed on those warm summer nights.

WHAT PERFORMANCE VENUE IS AVAILABLE FOR HIRE?

During Midsumma 2017 Gasworks Arts Park will be erecting a beautiful hand-made Indian tent in the park for performances and boasts the following features: · · · · · · · · ·

Overall tent size of 13.5 metres by 9 metres with a central pole Seating capacity of 120 patrons, with seating on the floor Performance space of a (200mm) raised stage. 2400mm deep by 4800mm wide. External Festoon lighting Colourful Drapes Basic LX Rig with ETC Ion desk Sound System with Yamaha MG24 Desk Projector Variety of microphones (subject to availability)

Available for one or two week seasons, this space is best suited to productions which require a carnival atmosphere, and works particularly well for comedy, cabaret, burlesque and performances that require an intimate stage space.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Costs will vary depending on each individual hire and their specific needs. The demand for space within the MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL is growing year after year. The hire costs have been calculated to be as accessible as possible while still covering the venue's expenses to run this event. Gasworks Arts Park is offering the venue at $400 per performance. This low rate work as a Guarantee amount, where you will pay EITHER $400 per performance or 50% of your ticket sales (whichever is greater). These prices includes: Technician to operate the lighting and/or sound during each performance A four hour bump in/tech slot Professional Front of House Staff to usher your Performances Candy bar prior to and following your Performance Marketing Support Ticket and Box Office Management While additional services are available for additional costs (e.g. extra tech hours), there are no additional costs that are hidden. The above rates cover everything you need to stage your production.

TICKETING

CAN I MANAGE MY OWN TICKETING? No, Gasworks Arts Park and Midsumma will manage the ticketing on your behalf.

HOW DOES TICKETING WORK? Midsumma will place on sale 50% of your house and Gasworks Arts Park will place on sale the other 50%. If a performance is selling particularly well, Gasworks Arts Park and Midsumma may transfer tickets between each other to ensure each still has tickets available for purchase.

HOW DO I GET MY MONEY AT THE END OF THE HIRE? At the end of your season, Midsumma will pass your final box office takings over to Gasworks. Gasworks will reconcile your final hire costs and transfer the remaining funds from both the Gasworks Box Office Sales and Midsumma Box Office sales. This process can sometimes take more than a month due to the large number of shows participating in Midsumma, so please factor that into your budget.

MARKETING

As part of MIDSUMMA, your production will benefit from the additional Marketing that Gasworks will provide: 1. Printing and distribution of brochures 2. Website listing on the Gasworks Website 3. Support and advice on how to manage your own marketing While Gasworks will offer Marketing support, you can not rely entirely on that for your marketing. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO

It is a condition of hire that all participating productions provide Gasworks Arts Park with any photographs or video taken during the Midsumma Festival. Any footage or photographs, MUST be supplied to Gasworks Arts Park in the highest resolution captured. Gasworks reserves the right to use these images and footage for promotional marketing collateral for future festivals. 0 I understand that any footage or photographs taken as part of the Midsumma Festival will be supplied to Gasworks Arts Park after the Festival.

Photographers and Videographers will not be permitted into any performance without the prior approval of Gasworks Arts Park. You will be required to advise us in advance of any recording you wish take of your production.

Agreement

Agreement I Agree to all stipulations within this Expression of Interest Form. I understand that by submitting an Expression of Interest for venue hire at Gasworks Arts Park, I have not yet secured a venue.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Expressions of Interest will remain open until 5pm on 5 September. After this time, Gasworks Arts Park will review each expression of interest to ascertain which productions will best fit our 2017 Midsumma Program. If successful, we will contact you shortly after 5 September, with an offer and a quote. If you accept the offer, we will draw up a formal hire contract. Once this contract has been signed and returned, your hire will be confirmed. If we are unable to offer you a place within our Midsumma Season, we will contract you by 7 September 2016, to let you know.
