Take a walk through your neighborhood and the central business district. As you pass by shops and offices, talk about the jobs people do in those places.

Encourage your child to write and draw stories of his or her own, using the phonics words.

Home study activity Have your child draw pictures of people on their jobs. Talk with your child about the jobs, the locations, and what they do, saying (She’s) a (veterinarian). (She) (helps animals). and (She) works in (an office). Then sit back-to-back with your child. Each of you should draw a picture of someone on the job. Take turns guessing the job and location, asking Is (he) a (zookeeper)? Does (he) work in the (zoo)? Also talk about the ways people go to work (by train). Talk about going to the beach and things you can do on a summer vacation where you live.
