VIDOS Welcome to VIDOS, the central management software for video over IP systems from VCS. VIDOS from VCS unites all functions for the installation, administration and control of video and alarm systems in the IP network to one central system. What can VIDOS do? System requirements Data backup Support and service

What can VIDOS do? VIDOS is a program designed for installation, administration and operation of video monitoring systems in local networks. VIDOS automatically finds all transmitting and receiving stations, cameras, and monitors and recording devices, which are installed on the network. It then constructs a functional observation center on the computer monitor. VIDOS supports all technical features of VCS video servers and decoders. Pictures from all of the cameras installed on the net can be viewed on the PC through simple use of the mouse. Just as easily, connections between cameras and video monitors on the network can be made. Site maps, on which the camera positions are marked, make orientation easy. The desired camera pictures can be viewed on the monitor using a simple drag&drop function. System administrators can create special monitor views for specific assignments, with which the operator can carry out his work easily. This is how VIDOS can offer maximal system security and reduces operational errors. Additionally VIDOS provides quick and comfortable configuration of the essential parameters of all existing VCS systems connected, for example automatic allocation of IP addresses or simultaneous upload of new firmware to several or all devices. The primary functions of VIDOS are: Search for VCS’s video servers (transmitters with connected cameras and receivers with connected monitors) and VIDOS-NVRs in the local network Set up and dismantling of connections between cameras and monitors via drag&drop function (digital matrix) Several simultaneous live picture connections to cameras in the network Configuration of monitoring situations (site maps and monitor arrangement) Programming of alarm-triggered automatic events System set up with limited operation options for clearly defined surveillance tasks Creation of site maps with camera locations and interactive operation Programming of automatic recording events on VIDOS-NVRs Remote maintenance for VCS devices and IP cameras

Login and change of user Every time you start VIDOS you will be asked to enter your user name. It will usually be necessary to also enter a password. Only upon entering a valid name access to VIDOS will be possible. Otherwise the start operation will be terminated. For the first time installation no user and password are required. We recommend setting up users and passwords as early as possible for system security. The user name decides on your authorizations regarding your work with VIDOS. Dependent on your authorization, either the entire, or a limited part of the range of functions will be at your disposal after the start of the program. This could be, for example, an unchangeable user interface, which offers only a limited amount of actions, e.g. the choice between individual cameras or switching between different site maps. While working with VIDOS it is possible to change user. In doing this the present user will be logged off automatically. The new user has to register with a name and password. After the change the authorizations of the new user will apply. How to change the user: Choose the option Change User in the menu File. The Authorisation required window will appear. Make sure that the option Change User is highlighted. Enter a valid user name and, if required, password. Be aware of case sensitivity. Click OK. Changes to the filter can only be made when the Live Mode button is deactivated with another click. Logging

User management and passwords System security The work with VIDOS normally takes place on two levels: The level for a system administrator, who has access to the complete range of functions of the program, sets the system up ready for the tasks to be carried out later. He stipulates which devices (e.g. cameras) can be used, and in which way automatic actions (e.g. in case of alarm) can be triggered. The later work with VIDOS takes place on a user level. A user registers himself at the start of the program with his name and a password, and arrives at a pre-programmed user interface, which allows him all required actions without further setting-changes on the system being necessary. To proceed that way it is necessary to define at least two user groups, one of whom has complete access to the program (= administrator). The second group (= user) should only have access to the most necessary program functions (e.g. starting and ending the program). Decide as soon as possible which user groups are necessary and only allow registration after the entry of a password. Attention! Make sure that in particular the user names with extensive entitlements always are protected with a password to prevent unauthorized or accidental altering of the system configuration.

User administration The entry of a valid user password should be made necessary when starting and closing VIDOS. The user name decides on the authorizations for the work with VIDOS after starting the program. Dependent on the authorization, access is granted to the entire range of functions or only a limited range of functions. Authorization may only offer an unalterable user interface with a limited amount of actions, e.g. a choice of cameras or the ability to switch between different site maps. The authorization possibilities are bound to so-called user groups. Each user group has an arbitrary combination of authorizations at its disposal. Each new user has to be a member of a certain group. The membership decides on the authorization when working with VIDOS. Site map based configuration VIDOS was created for a site map based operation. This means, for example, the user sees the sketch of a building ground plan on his monitor. There are different cameras to be seen in this sketch. Next to or on this sketch there are two or more monitor windows (software monitors). To see a certain picture on one of the software monitors, it will be enough to drag the symbol of the chosen camera onto the monitor. Further actions are triggered by clicking on certain areas of the sketch, e.g. to change to a maximized view of chosen parts of the building. Dependent on the configuration, you can pre-program comprehensive operative functions and surveillance tasks.

Editing object properties Every object in the site map has a bank of properties that you can edit (e.g. colors, size or name). When importing a new object to the site map, the default setting will apply. When you highlight an object a list will appear with all available properties and their current values. Usually you will have a number of values (column Value) for each property (column Property) to choose from. The current value is visible in the table. Further possible choices will be shown if you click on the respective line. You can then choose the desired value from a list, or enter it in another dialog box or per hand (e.g. text or number details). If the window with the object properties is not shown in the present view of the site map editor, first choose, from the menu View, the menu item Toolbars and click on all options that are not yet marked to get a complete view over all tools and windows in the editor. Click on the selection tool in the toolbar or click on the workspace with the right mouse key and then click on the selection tool (Select) in the menu item Tool from the context menu. Adding cameras There are several ways to add cameras to a site map. You can add camera symbols, without allocation to a real camera available in the system. This makes sense if you create a site map when you are still in the planning stage of a system. The allocation of the individual cameras can be done afterwards, at any time, via adjustment of respective object properties. You can add camera symbols already allocated to real cameras available in the system. You can either choose cameras from the system overview or with the aid of the preview pictures. Add camera symbol without allocation If the tools are not shown in the current view of the site map editor, choose the menu item Toolbars in the menu View and click all options, which are not yet marked, to retain the view of all tools and windows in the editor. Click on the camera tool in the toolbar or click in the workspace with the right mouse key and choose the camera tool (Insert Camera) from the menu item Tool in the context menu. Lining up objects with each other Click an object to highlight it. Hold the Ctrl key and click on a second object. Both objects are now highlighted. Use the right mouse key to click inside the highlighted area and choose the menu item Align in the context menu, and then one of the alignment options. The second object will be accordingly aligned with the first object chosen. Copying objects Click on an object to highlight it and then choose the function Copy in the menu Edit. The object will be copied. From the menu Edit choose the function Paste. The copied object will appear at the same place as the original. Click on the copied object to highlight it, then you can move and edit it as usual. Deleting objects Click on an object to highlight it and then press the Del key. The object will be deleted. Workspaces With VIDOS, you can define individually configured workspaces. A workspace contains all monitors, sitemaps etc. that are positioned in the grey part of the VIDOS main window. Thereby you can create a configuration in the VIDOS main window fitting perfectly to your requirements or any particular task. You can then save this as a workspace. When you reopen this workspace at a later time, the complete configuration will be at your disposal. Attention! A workspace only saves the state of the workspace window (grey background), not the docking windows. You can allocate a specified workspace to a certain user group. After a user of that group has registered the allocated workspace will open automatically. Thus, the operation can be tailored to the individual user groups making work easier for the individual operators, because they do not have to deal with the interface configuration. Timeserver If you are running several IP cameras, video servers or VIDOS-NVR systems it is important that all devices and systems work in synchronization. Only when all devices and computers are working with the same time, it is possible to recognize and assess, for example, alarms that have happened simultaneously. VIDOS can receive the time signal of an NTP server (NTP = Network Time Protocol) and set the computers internal clock (local system time) accordingly. If a valid IP address has been entered, an automatic synchronization of time and date is done every two hours. In the text box, in the middle of the register card, the data exchange between VIDOS and the NTP server will be recorded. Tip: Make sure that the time signal does not take account of readjustments between summer and wintertime, or certain time zones. Valid is only the UTC (Universal Time Coordinated). Information about NTP server ports can be obtained from the server operator. In the menu System, choose the menu item Configuration…. The system configuration window will be opened. Alarm functions VIDOS offers an array of alarm functions, with which the program can handle alarms that have been activated by e.g. alarm interfaces of the video servers or IP cameras integrated into the system. The most important alarm functions are: Alarm triggers Alarm scenarios You can set a number of details for the handling of alarms through, so called, alarm scenarios. Alarm scenarios are automatic processes that can vary from simple directives to complex operations. In the default settings of VIDOS automatic alarm processing is active. You can deactivate and reactivate it at any time. Choose the menu item Configuration… in the System menu. The system configuration window will be opened. Click the menu item Alarm Processing in the menu System of the Configuration window. The processing of alarms is disabled until the Configuration window is closed. To reactivate the processing of alarms without closing the Configuration window click the menu item Alarm Processing in the menu System again. Alarm triggers Alarm scenarios

Alarm triggers There are different ways of defining alarm triggers and of connecting them to each other. Possible alarm triggers are: Alarm input of a device (e.g. VideoJet 1000) Motion detector of a device (e.g. VideoJet 1000) Unified-picture-alarm of a device (e.g. VideoJet 1000) Signal loss alarm of a device (e.g. VideoJet 1000) Alarm input of an external alarm extension box VIDOS interval timer VIDOS week timer VIDOS logical trigger With the help of logical triggers you can connect different alarm triggers with each other. You can combine logical triggers to create a new trigger. Thereby you have a plethora of possibilities to set terms that have to be met e.g. to start an alarm scenario. Alarm scenarios are individually defined automatic processes started by alarm inputs, logical triggers or appropriately set time switches – interval timer or week timer. This gives you the possibility of e.g. showing automatically certain camera pictures at specified periods regardless of whether an alarm input has been triggered or not. Interval timer Week timer Logical triggers Alarm scenarios Alarm stack Alarm functions

Interval timer With the interval time switch you can set the time intervals at which an alarm trigger should be active. With the help of this function you can show a picture in the VIDOS main window, for example, every 120 seconds. To do this you will have to use an accordingly set time interval as a trigger for an alarm scenario. Choose the menu item Configuration… in the System menu. The system configuration window will be opened. Double click the symbol Alarm Handling in the Configuration window. Further subgroups will be shown. Double click the symbol Triggers. Further details will be shown. Click the symbol Interval Timers. In the right-hand half of the window you will see the currently set time intervals. If you want to delete a highlighted area, hold the Ctrl key and pull the cursor, with the left mouse key pressed, over the desired segment. Click OK to save the settings and close the window. Alarm scenarios Alarm triggers Alarm functions

Logical triggers With the help of logical triggers you can logically connect different alarm triggers with each other. You can create logical operations of triggers, which create a new trigger in the chosen combination. In this way you can make the processing of an alarm dependent e.g. on its source (video server interface) and simultaneously on the time of its trigger (see Examples of logical triggers and operations). The following logical operations can be chosen: and

And-operation, all triggers must be active (e.g. alarm interface) resp. corresponding (e.g. week timer)

nand

At least one trigger must be not active (e.g. alarm interface) resp. corresponding (e.g. week timer)

Examples of logical triggers and operations Example 1: Simple or-operation With the help of an or-operation you can easily combine the alarm interfaces of all video servers available in the system, and use them as a trigger for a certain alarm scenario. If only one of the interfaces of an alarm is triggered, VIDOS will activate the alarm scenario (e.g. the display of a certain site map or a specified workspace). Choose the menu item New from the Logical triggers context menu and then create a new logical trigger with name (e.g. “All alarm inputs”) and description. Click the register Details to set further details. In the trigger list you can see the available operation options. In the field Available Triggers double click all alarm inputs. These will be listed in the field Selected Input Triggers. Choose the operation or in the Logic Operation field. Click OK to save the settings and close the window. In the following definition of the alarm scenario, choose this logical trigger (“All alarm inputs“), if the alarm scenario is to start with an alarm input of any of the video servers in the system. Example 2: Encapsulated operation With an encapsulated operation you can limit the trigger shown in example 1, so an alarm can be triggered and an alarm scenario started only at certain times of the day. First create a new logical trigger with name “All alarm inputs“ as in example 1. From the Week Timers context menu, choose the menu item New and create a new week timer with the name "Nights". Click on the register Details to set further details.

Recording of video pictures with VIDOS-NVR Additionally to recording of video pictures to the memory of the devices on location VIDOS supports VIDOS-NVR, the Network Video Recorder of VCS. Network video recording not only allows for unlimited scalability and flexibility, the VIDOS-NVR modules increase data security significantly due to VCS’s patent pending ANR-technology (Automatic Network Replenishment). This technology ensures the automatic replenishment of recordings in case of network failures. The missing sequences caused by a network drop out are automatically detected and recovered from the local memory (harddisk or CompactFlash) of the remote device. ANR is supported by all VCS devices with local memory (for adequate settings of the respective devices refer to the VIDOS-NVR manual). The VIDOS-NVR operation is directly configured through VIDOS. The register cards on the NVRproperties give you a survey on the NVR functionalities. Attention! The default authentication of VIDOS-NVR is ‘live’.
