Stone Town Awaken your senses The beautiful island of Zanzibar comes steeped in history, romance and mystery. Nestled off the East coast of Tanzania, it is a cultural melting point, drawing influence from its colourful past. Stone Town, or ‘Mji Mkongwe’ as the locals call it, is the heart of the island. Named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001, it was a main port for ancient Indian Ocean traders, succumbing to a rich mix of Arabic, Portuguese, African and British over the years. Today, Jafferji House is conveniently located in the centre of Stone Town, and a walk through the surrounding famous narrow streets instantly awakens your senses, and transports you back to the time of Sultans and Arabic opulence.
