We schedule our appointments carefully to avoid you having to wait. Your time is very valuable to us and we will always treat it with respect. We do cater for emergencies throughout the day, so if for some reason your appointment is delayed we will apologise in advance. Your dentist will meet with you, one on one to discuss your dental needs and wishes. A complete oral examination will be given to determine the type of dental care appropriate for you. We have found that prevention is the key to healthy teeth and gums. Diagnostic x-ray films may be taken at your first and subsequent consultations to assist us in evaluating any decay, bone loss, and soft and hard tissue lesions. Filling out the enclosed paperwork before you arrive in the office will assist in making your visit run as smoothly and quickly as possible. If for some reason you cannot keep your reserved time, please give us 24 hours notice so that we can offer the time to another patient. A cancellation charge will be applied to any appointment that is cancelled within a 24-hour period.

Our entire team is dedicated to your well-being. We are enthusiastic about what dentistry can offer everyone. We are committed to bringing the highest level of care and professionalism possible. If there are any questions you might have before your reserved time with us, please don’t hesitate to call.

What to Expect at Your Initial Consultation… Most people who attend the dental surgery say that the reason they are nervous or apprehensive is because they don’t know what to expect. Listed below are the things that you can expect to take place at your first appointment. Feel free at any time to ask for more information about anything that you may wish to undergo. Understanding your treatment and the procedures involved will make your visits to the surgery a pleasant experience. 

When you attend for your appointment, you will first be greeted at reception. The receptionist will ask you to complete some forms which allow us to understand your needs better before you enter the surgery. If there is any delay in the surgery you will be kept informed. The dentist or the nurse, who is working with the dentist, will introduce themselves to you and then escort you to the surgery. The dentist will greet you in the surgery and will then proceed to go through your medical and dental history with you. At this point you will also be asked about the dental menu so that we can understand your dental needs more clearly. Before looking inside your mouth you will be asked if you have any problems or concerns about your teeth/mouth at present and an external examination will take place on your neck, jaw etc. This is so that the dentist can detect any abnormal swelling or tenderness. An internal examination of your mouth will then take place. Firstly, a good look at the soft tissue in your mouth i.e. your gums, cheeks etc. Your teeth then will be examined and a full charting will be given to the nurse, this states what you have in your mouth and what treatment needs to be done. Your dentist may then need to take some x-rays, usually this involves two small xrays taken inside the mouth and one large one taken outside of the mouth. While the x-rays are being processed, an examination will be carried out on your gums, some measurements will be taken and then recorded on the computer. Once the x-rays have been processed, the findings will be discussed with you and your dentist will then go through what treatments are necessary based on all of the information he has gained from this appointment. An explanation of the procedures will be given and an option on what treatments and materials are available. The dental team may spend some time with you to explain some treatments in more depth.

Once you are satisfied that all of your queries have been answered you will be escorted back to the reception where future appointments and financial arrangements can be tailored to your needs. No other treatment will be carried out at this appointment so there will be no surprises

Children We are very much a family practice and enjoy treating children whom we encourage to have regular checkups from an early age in order:  To help develop, with your assistance, the correct brushing and dietary habits, that will keep their teeth healthy for life.  To give you, the parent, the opportunity to discuss with the dentist any worries you may have about your children's teeth.  To monitor and treat, if necessary any tooth irregularities that can occur at any age during the development of your child.  To deal with minor dental problems before they become serious, and advise about either preventative measures such as fissures sealants and fluoride treatment.

Cross Infection Control We would reassure our patients that we have the most effective equipment and sterilisation techniques available to ensure there's no risk of cross infection.

Care When You Need It The Most Our practice has arranged an emergency service that ensures that if you are in pain during surgery hours every effort will be made to see you as soon as possible. Out of hours, if you experience pain or suffering an emergency which cannot be left until the next day, contact the practice and an answer phone message will put you in touch with a caring dentist.† You can also contact NHS Emergency on Freephone 111 or for an Emergency Dentist contact 01276 502909

Choosing the Best Way to Pay

After your teeth have been examined and a treatment plan has been agreed, you will be given a written estimate of the cost of the work to be done. Our procedure for NHS treatment is for you to pay the total costs at the commencement of treatment. Private patient’s payments will be arranged individually. If you receive certain benefits you may be entitled to free NHS dental treatment. We will be happy to discuss the details and give you advice. Remember, if you are under 18 and in full time education you qualify for free NHS dental care. If you are worried about the cost of dental treatment or find any point about charges difficult to understand, please let us know.

Patient Satisfaction We pride ourselves on our friendly and high standard of care. However, if you find that you are not satisfied with any aspect of your visit or dental treatment at our practice please ask our receptionist for a complaints information sheet so that we may resolve the problem to your satisfaction and prevent its recurrence in the future.
