Curriculum Tanunda Lutheran School (TLS) develops in students their knowledge of the Christian faith and skills in literacy, numeracy and information processing. The curriculum has been developed in each of the following Key Learning Areas: Christian Studies English Mathematics Science Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) Design and Technology Health and Physical Education LOTE (German & Japanese) The Arts

At TLS each student is valued, encouraged and respected for their ability to learn in different ways.

Our curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum and the Lutheran Education Australia Christian Studies Curriculum Framework. It develops the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which enable students to be successful citizens; an understanding of and respect for our cultural heritage, including indigenous culture; and the capacity to exercise judgement in matters of morality, ethics and social justice within a Christian framework. At TLS we encourage an understanding and concern for the sustainable development of the environment. Our Curriculum is delivered using different pedagogies including inquiry based learning, integrated studies, development of thinking skills, differentiating the curriculum and sensory integration.

Early Learning Centre Part of Tanunda Lutheran School the Early Learning Centre (ELC) provides a warm, nurturing Christ -centred environment catering for children aged from 3&1/2 to school age. In new purpose built facilities the ELC aims to provide an innovative play based curriculum to enrich each child's individual learning style and needs and a smooth transition our junior primary classes. The learning program is based on the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia : Belonging, Being, Becoming and the Reggio Emilia philosophy. It emphasizes play-based learning recognizing the importance of communication and language (Including early literacy and numeracy) and the social and emotional development of all children. Children are encouraged to question, investigate and learn about the world around them in a warm, friendly and positive atmosphere. Two sessions are Monday to Friday. The Teachers Tanunda Lutheran School (TLS) recruits its teachers with criteria that include teaching qualifications and experience, the ability to create a caring and disciplined learning environment and a firm commitment to Christian values. Our teaching staff is dedicated and highly skilled, offering a balance of gender, youth and experience. Professional development is taken seriously with teachers regularly updating and developing their skills. The welfare of the students is a prime concern at TLS. All are committed to provide a learning environment where students feel successful and become valued contributors to the world around them. The school provides families and students the support of a Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and a School Chaplain.

Information Communication Technology TLS has a forward looking approach to information communication technology, maint aining fut ure dri ven facilities. The school constantly monitors student safety with regard to the internet and has an Internet User’s Agreement between students, parents and the school. All students from Yr 4–7 have personal notebook computers. For Junior Primary classes we have a fully equipped computer room. In addition, there are computers available for individual or small group use in class rooms and the resource centre.

Gifted Education TLS offers a gifted education program that extends students who have been identified with special gifts and talents. Support is provided by specialist teachers within the classroom and in small groups.

Learning Support TLS provides learning support program for students identified as requiring extra help with their studies or motor skills. A specialist teacher uses a variety of strategies including Reading Recovery and LAP. 3.2 TLS Prospectus

Library The Library forms an integral part of the school's study and academic program. With a large collection of resources, a computer area for online research and a large open space for teaching it provides students with exciting and challenging learning opportunities. TLS has a skilled Teacher Librarian who guides students and is a resource for co-operative planning and teaching.

Behaviour Management An effective Behaviour Management Policy is in place t hat focuse s on l ogi cal consequences, supports student learning and encourages accepting responsibility for one’s own behaviour. The Friendly Schools and Families Program is an important part of Tanunda Lutheran School’s strategies to encourage and develop positive relationships at school and in the wider community. Performing Arts At TLS we encourage an appreciation and understanding of the arts. Students enjoy many opportunities to participate in the visual and performing arts. Students are able to join the school band and choir. They participate in a school dramatic performance bi-annually and are strongly supported by a specialist performing arts teacher. Private instrumental tuition is also available from music teachers associated with TLS.

Physical Education Tanunda Lutheran School provides a specialist P.E. teacher for students and a daily physical activity program. The sports program includes: Swimming lessons Swimming carnival House sports day Interschool sports day Skill lessons from visiting team coaches Involvement with SAPSASA teams Interschool team sport Co-ordination and motor skill activities for Reception students. Specialist programs including dance and gymnastics

Worship is an integral part of TLS As well as daily class devotions, each child is part of Junior or Senior worship on a weekly basis. Once a week we come together as a school community students, teachers, parents and friends - and worship as a school family.

Parents It is our belief that parents are the most natural and influential teachers of their children. At TLS we work together to form a powerful partnership with parents to facilitate student learning. Parents are always welcome at the school, whether as visitors, resource people or helpers. Tanunda Lutheran School values greatly the active involvement of all parents in its voluntary work programs and fund raising efforts. Having a child at our school means you are encouraged to help out and be a part of the school community.

Reception Children In their first five/six weeks of schooling, Reception students attend four days of each week, with Wednesdays as a “rest day”.

Finance At Tanunda Lutheran School every attempt is made to keep school fees within the reach of parents from all economic circumstances. School Card can be applied for from the Government. A fee subsidy scheme is available on application. We receive funding from both State and Federal Government to offset a portion of our recurrent expenditure. In addition, we receive regular subsidies from the congregations which support the school.
