Introduction
Greetings from Prof. Bernd Hindel Conference Chair
The SPICE Days 2007 in Frankfurt/Germany have been a great success. I’m proud to invite you to the SPICE Days 2008 in Prague. An international standard is only of little value, when there is no consensus about a uniform understanding of the standard. ISO/IEC 15504 (SPICE), as an international standard, is practiced and applied worldwide, however, sometimes in different manner and scope. There are still varying interpretations of the base and generic practises defined in ISO/IEC 15504 part 5.
Greetings from Peter Bölter President of iNTACS
As the President of the International Assessor Certification Scheme, iNTACS e.V., I am proud to present The International SPICE Days, co-organized by iNTACS and iSQI. The international SPICE days 2008 are an excellent opportunity to the SPI community to present experience of reports, to discuss the development of the SPICE as well as bring experts and practitioners from the industry and science with interested participants together. iNTACS is the home of professional SPICE assessors. The scheme is maintained with direct support of industry. iNTACS certified assessor are the first choice for assessments.
It needs still some effort to achieve a homogeneous and consistent application and comprehension of the standard. It is necessary to have a platform that allows and fosters discussions, experience exchange as well as consolidation on the development and management of SPICE in the future.
We are building up strategic partnerships to extend the basis and the worldwide availability of the scheme. Our partnership with the VDA (Association of Automotive industry) is only one example.
The International SPICE Days 2008 offer a great opportunity to present experience reports, to discuss with colleagues from different industries the newest developments of SPICE as well as to learn about the newest advancements. Become active and use your chance to learn more about the standard.
See you in Prague, in June 2008! Yours sincerely Peter Bölter
As the conference chair, I am very pleased to welcome you at the International SPICE Days 2008 in Prague. Yours sincerely Bernd Hindel

Dr. Thomas Schlick, German Automotive Industry Association (VDA), Germany Quality standards in the automotive supply chain – VDA strategy for supporting software component maturity
Dr. Pierre Metz, SynSpace GmbH, Germany Interpretation of the Engineering Process Group
The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) consisting partly of automobile manufacturers and their development partners, the suppliers, and partly of the manufacturers of trailers, body superstructures and containers, have setup different initiatives to improve quality in automotive business. One key approach is to enhance product quality by increasing process maturity. Starting from the main core processes of automotive industry, supporting
standards and best practices are worked out and published, focussing on maturity in the product development and production process. This is done by VDA members sitting in the same working groups and working parties. The results are direct discussion and rapid decision-making. One major current and future task is to establish improvement activities for software quality and reliability in the VDA strategy. Automotive SPICE® is widely accepted in automotive business and plays the major role to achieve that goal.
This tutorial discusses the ENG processes in ISO/IEC 15504-5, SPICE 4 SPACE (S4S) and Automotive SPICE with respect to common practical implementation of Base Practices, and process-specific interpretations of Generic Practices of Capability Level 2. These interpretations have been collected through more than one decade of assessments and organizational improvement programme setups in the domains automotive, medical devices, aerospace and banking & finance.

Antonio Coletta, DNV IT Global Services, Italy New ISO/IEC developments in Process Assessment standards for IT Services
Dr. Karl-Heinz Augenstein, KUGLER MAAG CIE GmbH, Germany Interpretation of the Management Process Group
The ISO/IEC standards related to process assessment, and historically to SPICE, are evolving to cover new areas of application. This is possible thanks to the open architecture designed into the ISO/IEC 15504Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. standard which allows process reference models and process assessment models to be defined and applied for any area of application where process quality is a driving factor. A recent addition to the set of ISO/IEC system and software engineering standard is ISO/IEC 20000, fast tracked from BS 15000 and strongly related to ITIL. ISO/IEC 20000Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. defines requirements for a set of processes required to effectively manage IT services.
The tutorial shows the requirements of Automotive SPICE® within the context of project management practices. The project management practices are based on the relevant demands of PMBoK. The PMBoK elements are then correlated to the Automotive SPICE® requirements. The project management practices themselves form a baseline how to organize, how to plan, how to monitor, how to steer a project. They describe which project management techniques typically can be implemented and used, for example to define the work breakdown structure, to derive the work packages, to define the schedule etc.
The ISO/IEC subcommittee for system and software engineering has recently approved the development of two additional standards to support the application of ISO/IEC 15504 to IT service management: ISO/IEC 20000-4Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. defining the PRM (Process Reference Model) and ISO/IEC 15504-8Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. defining the related (Process Assessment Model). The projects are strongly supported by the international community, as evidenced by numerous base documents offered as contributions for the development of these new standards. This paper/presentation will provide background information on these initiatives together with a presentation of the current state of the art of ISO/IEC developments in this area.
Aspects of how to integrate techniques and concepts of functional safety (according to e.g. IEC 16508, ISO CD 26262, DO 178B etc.) is put in context. The tutorial will follow an interactive approach, i.e. discussions arising from questions and practical problems of the participants are very welcome.
The most important elements discussed are: • What is professional project management • Project start • Successful project planning • Project monitoring and control • Project closure The requirements of Automotive SPICE® are then correlated to the project management elements. The correlations will be developed and discussed during the tutorial in the context of typical examples. The examples are mainly based on MAN.3 practices.

Dr. Richard Messnarz, I.S.C.N. GesmbH, Austria Integrated Automotive SPICE and Safety Assessments In 2005 Automotive SPICE (based on ISO 15504) has been published (see: www.automotivespice.com) and used in major automotive firms world wide. In parallel to that an ISO WD 26262 working draft for functional safety has been developed classifying systems with SIL (Safety integrity levels) levels and requiring additional processes, techniques, and methods to illustrate the competence for managing systems which have an impact on the loss of lives. An Automotive SPICE assessment usually takes (for the processes defined in the scope of the German automotive manufacturing association) 4 days per project. Adding the scope of a safety assessment this dramatically

increases the number of hours used in assessments. In a working group of major 2005 – 2008 an integrated assessment approach. Portals in the above mentioned automotive suppliers already use this environment. The working group which elaborated the methods and tools described in this paper are part of the SOQRATES initiative (www.soqrates.de) where more than 20 leading German firms collaborate in cross company task forces. In this paper we want to explain the results of the analysis done, the assessment model applied, and what kind of reports the integrated assessment environment is producing. The results of all work (except of the proprietary assessment tools) will be made public to all suppliers by the end of 2008.

Prague
About Prague
Prague is filled with beauty and can be enjoyed and explored for days, months, or even a lifetime. Prague’s historical center has an area of 8.5 km2. Since 1992 it has been listed by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site. The city has its charm at any time of the year. Typical for Prague‘s city center are its winding lanes and buildings in every possible architectural style: Romanesque rotundas, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque and Renaissance palaces, art nouveau, neo-classical, cubist and functionalist houses and contemporary structures. The name “Golden City” was given to the city during the reign of Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV, when the towers of Prague Castle were covered in gold. Another theory is that Prague was called “Golden“ during the reign of Rudolf II who employed alchemists to turn ordinary metals into gold.
