Welcome to Oakwood A specialist rehabilitation service for people with brain injuries

Hello! A warm welcome to Oakwood

Because we’re a charity we can offer more

We provide support and rehabilitation for people with brain injuries in a friendly and safe environment. Our team is fully trained, regulated by the Care Quality Commission and accredited by Headway.

With over 100 homes in the UK, we provide thousands of disabled people with housing and quality care. Our founder Leonard Cheshire started the charity in 1948 and since then we’ve always worked with disabled people to improve the support we offer. You can trust us to know what we are doing.

You’ll find us in Offerton, an area of Stockport. Stockport has plenty

of amenities, including a library, leisure centre, swimming pool, pubs and shops. Other attractions include the plaza theatre, country parks and a hat museum. Manchester is within easy reach too, with its fantastic range of shopping, culture and leisure options.

Added value As a charity we fundraise to top up the basic level of support that local councils provide. The money we raise makes a big difference to the people who use our services. It helps us provide things like physiotherapy, transport and social events – things that help you to get more out of life.

Facilities for you Oakwood is a comfortable and modern purpose-built building with 13 bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. There are five self-contained ‘flatlets’ which are equipped to help you live more independently – often an important part of your rehabilitation programme. We also have plenty of communal areas where you can get together with residents, family or friends.

Your support, your way Our facilities include: • Specialist equipment such as hoists, lifts, baths, beds and mattresses • Shared areas including dining room (with pool table), lounge, conservatory and therapy rooms • A call system, which enables you to ask for help from staff • Overnight accommodation in local B&Bs or hotels can be recommended to relatives or friends as required
