SCHOOL INFORMATION SCHOOL COMMENCES: 7.15am SCHOOL ENDS:

12.45pm Pre-School 12:45pm Reception 1:45pm Year 1 to Year 6 1:45pm Year 7 to Year 13

ARRIVING LATE / LEAVING EARLY Children arriving at school after school commences, should sign in at Reception before going to class. Children needing to leave school before the end of the school day (e.g. medical appointment) must bring a note signed by a parent or guardian explaining the reason for the absence AND must be signed out of school at the time of leaving, by a responsible adult. DELIVERY AND COLLECTION OF CHILDREN School commences at 7.15am. Students should not arrive at school before 7am when a staff member is on duty. The school accepts no responsibility for students who arrive on the premises before this time. (Gates open at 6.45am.) Children should be collected from school promptly at 12.45pm or 1:45pm (whichever is applicable). In the event of an emergency, please ring the school office to let us know. Parents/guardians must come into the school to collect their children from the classroom from Pre-school to Year 5. Year 6 to Year 13 parents please wait outside in the school grounds to collect their children. Please do not wait in the car park for your children. Siblings are not allowed to collect younger brothers and sisters. ABSENCE If your child is absent from school for any reason, you must inform the school as early as possible EACH DAY YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT. This is important for your child/ren’s safety, so that we know where they are. Please also send a note on the day your child returns to school for the Student File. If you know in advance that your child will be absent or has a doctor’s appointment etc, please send a note to the teacher explaining the reason and the duration of the absence. Please do not send your child to school if they are sick. This only places other children and staff at risk of contracting whatever illness your child has. If your child has been vomiting within the past 12 hours, please do not send them to school that day. IMPORTANT: If your child contracts a contagious disease, please notify the school immediately and observe the required quarantine periods.

PLAYTIMES/BREAKTIMES: There will be 2 break-times during the school day for primary children and one break for secondary children. (This is subject to change and the parents will be notified should the structure of the day change.) Primary: First break will be 30 minutes (10 minutes eating and 20 minutes play). Second break will be 15 minutes. Secondary: One break of 40 minutes Break times will be staggered to accommodate student numbers, as follows: Pre-school & Reception Year 1 – Year 6 Year 7 – Year 13 The school has adopted a “NO HAT NO PLAY” policy, so please ensure that your child brings their hat every day. Please apply sunscreen to your children before they come to school. Electronic games (e.g. Gameboys, PSP’s, etc) are NOT allowed at school and will be confiscated immediately and returned later. Cell phones are NOT allowed at school. UNIFORMS The appropriate uniform must be worn by all children at all times. Please refer to the uniform list contained in this booklet for information regarding the correct uniform. PE uniforms are to be worn on the relevant days only (please refer to student timetables available during week 1). Leather school shoes are required as part of the school uniform. Trainers are not to be worn except as part of the Sports Kit. BULLYING The school has a “Zero Tolerance” policy toward bullying. This policy will be explained in detail to all students at the beginning of each year and information will be sent home to parents for further explanation. If a child is found to be bullying others, they will be excluded from the school until appropriate measures are taken. If you believe your child is being bullied, please contact the school immediately and encourage your child to tell a teacher about any incidents.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES The school offers a range of after-school activities. Detailed information will be sent home each term. Activities and prices will vary depending on available supervisors/instructors and the time of the year. COMMUNICATION The school will regularly communicate with parents by sending school letters home with the students. We are aware that this is not always the most accurate method of communication, so please check your child’s school bag for school letters on a regular basis. Letters will also be posted on the School website. We are planning to establish an email system for school communication during the next academic year. We will keep you updated on this development. THE SCHOOL YEAR You will find the dates for each term in the 2011/12 academic year elsewhere in this booklet. It is important for your child/ren that they attend school for the whole of the school term (except when sick), whenever possible. Please plan family holidays during school holiday time whenever possible. CURRICULUM Please see our web-site (www.dohabritishschool.com) for an outline of the curriculum. STUDENT REPORTS An end-of-year report will be provided at the end of Term 3 each year. A half-year report, outlining your child’s progress, will be provided at half-term, February 2012. Parent Evenings are held during each term, offering an opportunity for parents to meet with their child/rens’ teachers to discuss the student’s progress. QUESTIONS / SUGGESTIONS / COMPLAINTS If you have any questions, suggestions or complaints regarding your child’s progress at DBS, please speak to your child’s teacher in the first instance. Appointments can be made by contacting the school office on Tel: 4450 2257/59 to arrange a mutually convenient time.
