Ketchikan - where your adventure begins!

Most

guests will go through Seattle to connect with an Alaska Airlines jet bound for Ketchikan. Alaska Airlines is the sole provider of jet service to Ketchikan, with 5 flights each direction every day during the summer season. As the native cultural center of Southeast Alaska, Ketchikan has the largest collection of totem poles in the world. Visit Creek Street, the former Red Light District, where brothels have been replaced by museums, art galleries and gift shops overlooking Ketchikan Creek. There is plenty to entertain you prior to your departure for Dall Island. Many guests schedule their flights to allow extra time in Ketchikan to enjoy the historical Gateway to Alaska.

One of the finest hotels in Southeast Alaska, Cape Fox Lodge is located in Ketchikan, within the heart of the Tongass National Forest. Situated on a hill overlooking the city, we offer spectacular views of Ketchikan and the Inside Passage. The hotel’s interior style is reminiscent of a ski lodge, with a river rock fireplace, pinebeamed ceilings and overstuffed furniture. We have exquisite cultural motifs from the totem poles at the hotel entrance to the stunning carved screen and many artifacts throughout the lobby and second floor landing. The tram takes you directly to the shops on historic Creek Street, from which the waterfront district is an easy walk.

You can tour the town on a horsedrawn trolley, see the sights from a floatplane, enjoy the loggers show, or visit the museums and cultural heritage centers. You may want to look for a cookbook of salmon or halibut recipes to discover new ways to prepare your fish when you get home.

Our customers say it best!

Steamers is our tradition! We’ve been fishing with Alaska Far West Fish Camp since 1995, and every year for our last night in Ketchikan we go to Steamers for dinner. The food is wonderful! Some of our favorites are: • Locally caught oysters topped with Steamers’ delicious crab dip, and finished with spinach and cheese • Alaskan Halibut baked in Steamers’ secret sauce • Dungeness, King Crab and Snow Crab from local icy waters • Open-faced crab sandwich that is reason to visit again • Featuring a full-service bar with many top-shelf liquors • Lots of tasty Alaskan-brewed beer on tap

Take the elevator to the third floor, and be prepared for a fabulous dining experience. Located right on the waterfront, Steamers offers sunset views while watching fishing vessels, floatplanes and cruise ships. It’s an easy stroll back to our rooms, and the walk feels good after such a plentiful meal including a dessert so large we split it between four of us! Reservations are a good idea. We have enjoyed Steamers for years, and hope you will too!

Now departing for Dall Island!

Dall Island is approximately 50 miles long, with no permanent human inhabitants. We are located near the south end, approximately 90 miles from Ketchikan by float plane. You will fly over the top of Prince of Wales Island and numerous other islands to reach our remote site. Your pilot is an experienced Alaskan bush pilot, so sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. The views are awesome. Keep your camera handy.

As you are thinking of calling your friends to set up your trip, we suggest you call us first to see what dates are still available for the coming season. We find this makes it easier to make the trip come true. Because of our repeat business, many of our time slots are booked a year in advance. We’d like to impress upon you the importance of acting as early as possible so we can try to accommodate your wishes. We can work with you or your travel agent to assist with travel details and suggest the best flight numbers and accommodations to match our flight schedule to and from Dall Island. We don’t staff a full-time booking office, so when we are out please leave a message including your name and telephone number with area code, and we will call you as soon as possible.
