Curved Piecing Quilting Blocks with Donna Veinot In this technique workshop, you will create two starry blocks using an origami-type technique, where folded pieces of fabric are layered on a background and the folded bias edges rolled back and stitched into a gentle curve. 1 Meter each of two colours of fabric are all that is required for this class, a solid or light tone on tone fabric for the background, and a contrast fabric to create the starry/windmill effect. This technique can also be used to enrich traditional patchwork blocks in a quilt or to create curves and soften the straight outlines of pieced designs. There will be discussion during class on fabric colour choices as well as fabric requirements for both large and small quilts as well as table-toppers and runners. Supply List 1 m of background fabric; 1 m of contrasting fabric for the star and windmill blocks; 1 fat quarter of another strong contrasting fabric for the center of the star block. 'Quilt as you Go' is fun and creative as it doesn’t follow a precise pattern, but instead takes on more of an improvisational style of piecing and quilting.
