Many people lack access to critical and long term care policy supplemental benefits they need when major illness strikes. Many more face major health issues like cancer, heart attack, and stroke with no coverage at all. Older adults reaching the age of 65 have a 40% chance of entering a nursing home -- close to 90% will need help at home or with other assisted daily living activities. This workshop will show how Living Benefits can address major life events such as critical or long term care, major illness, alternative treatments and lump sum payments for terminal diagnosis. These courses introduce programming fundamentals using Java environments. Java is a popular programming language that runs these days in most personal computers and mobile devices (e.g., cellphone, tablets, and portable media players). These environments manage a considerable amount of information, including sensitive information. Therefore, it is important to introduce the notion of Information Assurance and secure code into the fundamentals in computer programming along with the SLO. Western science has recently been able to document what people have known for centuries: Yoga is an effective tool for calming the central nervous system, focusing mental activity, revitalizing the immune system, conditioning muscles and improving respiratory health. As educators, we are charged with addressing our students in a holistic manner. This workshop will teach you basic postures of Yoga you can practice at home, introduce you to meditation, and outline how these practices can specifically benefit you as a teacher. Each semester, about 50 instructors district-wide and over 400 students actively engage in the community. Students who participate in Service Learning more than once are several times more likely to graduate or transfer to a 4-year institution. Civic engagement motivates our students to appreciate their community and their academic opportunities. SLP outreach is currently building Quality Living initiatives through established community partnerships and new partnerships such as Texas A&M Agrilife Horticultural Program and Texas Parks and Wildlife Program. Students are learning about community gardens at Ascarate Park with Master Gardeners and about our local environment and natural resources at the Franklin Mountains or at the Rio Grande through camping, clean-ups, and Park Interpretative Fairs.
