Advantages of Automated Train Operations – Costumer requirements • The Users of Public Transport solutions demands a transport system that ensures a high frequent, fast, comfortable, safe and cost-efficient transport solution.

• Possible Solutions for the Public Transport Authorities for the needs of their costumers are: – High frequent: short headways – Fast:

Optimized connections

– Comfortable:

costumer oriented operations

– Safe:

More personnel face-to-the-costumer

– Cost-effective:

Optimized personnel allocation

9

Advantages of Automated Train Operations – Public Transport Authorities • To meet the requirements of the passengers , Automated Train Operation can be a solution: • Higher grade of Safety – GoA2 to GoA4 and its signaling systems have a positive impact on the safety levels and failures through the human factor can be minimized

 A higher transport capacity and an increased passenger satisfaction through short headways  Faster travelling times through better and optimized connections, resulting of short headways

More face-to-the-costumer personnel – GoA3 & GoA4 have no need for driving personnel

 Instead of using personnel for driving, this personnel can be used for passenger information & safety in the passenger compartments or station

• Greater Flexibility in Operation  Unattended train operation (GoA4) allows a costumer oriented train operation  Train injects in cases of a sudden demand increase are possible 2016, Stadler Pankow GmbH

10

Advantages of Automated Train Operations – Public Transport Authorities • Potential savings by using Unattended Train Operation: • Personnel  No driving personnel and also personnel for stabling areas needed  No effort for the right allocation of the driving personnel in the network

• Rolling Stock  Increase of the average speed and lower energy consumption through optimized computer controlled driving behavior  Smaller vehicle units can be used through shorter headways, by achieving the same transport capacity  Increased passenger capacity through usage of the driver compartment for passenger service

Efforts of Automated Operations - Requirements • To ensure a safe operation on full automated Metro Systems the following requirements must be met:  Prevent stopping of trains between stations  Communication with passengers must be ensured continuously  Safe and reliable operation

• Therefore the basic functional requirements are:  Redundant systems in the control and propulsion equipment of the train  Reaching the next station in emergency operation  Self-sufficient energy supply on-board to ensure key operation functions, like communication to passengers in case of no external power supply  Continuous measurement of vehicles health  Redundant trackside safety equipment, fail-safe configuration  Evacuation procedures must be defined, self-evacuation of passengers  No persons on the tracks 2016, Stadler Pankow GmbH

13

Efforts of Automated Operations – Rolling Stock & Infrastructure • Unattended Train Operation requires the following equipment • Rolling Stock  Train monitoring system (failure, derailment and other detecting devices)  Train based communication equipment (emergency intercom)  On-board ATO equipment (car borne vital unit, antennas etc.)

• Infrastructure    

Traffic protection systems (ATP) Traffic communication equipment (radio) Platform protection ATO equipment (antennas, Operation Control Center)

• Integration of Rolling Stock and Infrastructure equipment  Tight integration between on-board and trackside systems  Safe and redundant two-way data transmission 2016, Stadler Pankow GmbH

www.stadlerrail.com

14

Efforts of Automated Operations for New Networks Infrastructure – Platform Protection • To ensure, that no persons are in the tracks, platform protection systems are necessary • Two systems in usage  Platform barrier doors  Platform track monitoring system

• Platform barrier doors  Platform is separated by doors from tracks  Higher investment costs  Restricted usage in curve tracks

• Advantages of platform barrier doors  Air-condition on platforms with lower energy effort  Less rubbish in tracks  Higher grade of safety 2016, Stadler Pankow GmbH

15

Efforts of Automated Operations for New Networks Infrastructure – Platform Protection • Two systems in usage;  Platform barrier doors  Platform track monitoring system

• Platform track monitoring system  System detects persons or objects in the track area  Higher error rates through influences of rubbish like newspapers  Track intrusion monitoring in tunnels necessary

• Advantages of a track monitoring system     

Lower investments costs , than platform doors Lower maintenance costs, than platform doors Usage in curved platforms possible Mixed operation with attended train operation possible Flexibility of door arrangement throughout the vehicle fleet

Efforts of Automated Operations – Rolling Stock & Infrastructure • ATO equipment for Rolling Stock is mainly fixed by the used ATO equipment of the infrastructure • Through the definition of the interfaces of vehicle / ATO equipment, future plans of establishing ATO are possible • Definition of needed spaces and communication interfaces • Disassembly of driver cab after migration to Unattended Train Operation Vehicle based control equipment for attended train operation Definition of needed interfaces & installation spaces Future installation of ATO on-board equipment
