WE CAN GIVE YOU 4.5 MILLION REASONS TO JOIN KPMG

FUELLING NEW ZEALAND’S PROSPERITY

AT KPMG, WE’VE GOT A PRETTY COMPELLING REASON TO COME TO WORK EACH DAY.

It’s called Fuelling New Zealand’s Prosperity, and it drives everything we do to make our country a better place to live, for every single New Zealander. We believe that by applying our expertise to help inspire and encourage our innovators, business leaders and entrepreneurs to build successful and sustainable world-beating business enterprises – we’ll achieve something truly great. It’s what gets us out of bed every day, keeps us passionate about what we do, and inspires us to do great work for our clients.

Are you in?

We’re so lucky to live in New Zealand, a land of almost limitless potential. We have a diverse and rapidly developing multicultural population, our business environment is well recognised as one of the most open, honest and transparent in the world, and opportunities to succeed abound.

At KPMG, we love what successful business represents – and what it can achieve. It’s a commitment to making our communities, and our country, the best they can be.

WELCOME Our client portfolio includes plenty of iconic New Zealand companies – in fact we work with more than 75% of the country’s top 100 organisations. And while that’s a big achievement – we see it as just the starting point. We want to help fuel the prosperity of more people across New Zealand, especially our smaller private enterprises which are bursting with potential.

Paul Herrod Chief Executive

When you join KPMG, you’ll be heading on a pretty exciting journey. With our sector focus, we take a ‘OneFirm’ approach, underpinned by living and breathing our values every day. Together, we can make New Zealand an even greater place to live.

SOME MORE GREAT REASONS WE’VE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THE 4.5 MILLION REASONS TO JOIN KPMG. NOW HERE ARE A FEW MORE...

You’ll receive outstanding training & support. We believe KPMG offers one of the strongest career development packages you’ll find anywhere. Our learning culture is a powerful combination of formal training, onthe-job experience, and personalised mentoring and support.

“The resources and opportunities available to young professionals looking to develop their careers was one of the main reasons I chose KPMG. Working here, I’m learning from some of the best accounting minds in the world.” Tim Best Audit, Christchurch

“Having the ongoing support of KPMG has been a key part of turning this school around. We’ve gone from no children achieving at National Standards seven years ago now we’re aiming for 95%.” Katarina Nock Principal Edmund Hillary School

You’ll work with some amazing clients. Think about your favourite Kiwi companies or brands. Chances are, they’re among our clients. We work with some of New Zealand’s most iconic organisations (as well as those who are about to become the next big thing). Or maybe you see yourself doing some blue-sky thinking for our Government clients…finding innovative ways to improve our schools, prisons, housing or energy infrastructure. With our mix of clients, there’ll be no shortage of exciting opportunities.

“Right from the start, I got to work on some great clients – some really big, diverse organisations such as Kiwibank, Athletics NZ, the Ministry for Social Development, and DOC. I did far more than I ever anticipated, and did work that really challenged me. There was certainly never any chance you’d get bored.” Greg Bryce, joined KPMG in 2003, now Director, Advisory, Christchurch

You’ll be encouraged to spread your wings. KPMG NZ people have an incredible reputation – so you’re likely to be highly sought after by many of our global KPMG offices. KPMG NZ will always support you in making the right career choices, whether you’re taking up a secondment abroad or with one of our clients. We’ll do our best to make it happen for you – and we hope you’ll return with a wealth of knowledge, client experience and a further developed professional network.

“Several things drew me back to KPMG. While London is a very well-established commercial sector, New Zealand still has that fresh entrepreneurial feel. There’s a really good client focus at KPMG, and I like to be interacting directly with my clients… relationshipbuilding and owning. The opportunity to work with New Zealand businesses is an exciting space to be in.” Lauder Erasmus, grad of 2003, now Director, Private Enterprise, Auckland

You’ll make a real difference in the community. If you’re the kind of person who likes to give something back, you’ve come to the right firm. The same spirit is at the heart of KPMG’s values and culture. We support a range of non-profit groups and charities; not only financially, but also giving our time, knowledge and experience on a probono basis. Our firm-wide volunteer programme gives everyone an annual paid day’s leave, to help out in the community. And if you have a cause that’s close to your heart, we might be able to support you in that too.

“With a friend from work, I’ve been involved with Daffodil Day for the last two years, as the Auckland CBD area coordinator. We coordinated all the volunteers in the area at 4 sites throughout the day, collected the funds, and liaised with the Cancer Society to ensure the day was a success.” Claire Pethica Tax, Auckland

Not to mention the free bananas. We offer you all the perks and benefits you’d expect from a Big 4 firm – including a $2000 clothing allowance (and $1000 for interns), and complimentary fruit baskets delivered to the office. It’s just one of the many ways we take care of our people - you can find out more about all our other benefits on our grad website. We have plenty of fun too, with KPMG’s famous social events and activities.

“The social side of KPMG is great. The people are really friendly and the office has a busy social club that organizes heaps of cool events.” Sarah Connolly Graduate Accountant Christchurch

GR

Are you in your final year of study, or already graduated? At KPMG, our graduates are our future leaders – and that’s how you’ll be welcomed if you decide to join us.

This starts with the Graduate Induction event, which is designed to provide orientation and energise your enthusiasm for KPMG and each other! At KPMG we are all about team work and getting involved, so pack a bag and get ready to jump into the onsite and off-site activities!

You’ll have the freedom to use your talents and initiative from day one. You’ll be working on real projects, and meeting with clients virtually straight away. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be thrown in the deep end – we’ll also provide all the support and training you need.

GRADUATES Claire Pethica Senior Consultant Tax, Auckland Studied: Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce (with a double endorsement in Marketing and Strategic Management), at University of Canterbury. I started at KPMG in 2012 as a grad in the Tax Division. There are an array of teams within the division, but as a grad you work across all of them in order to gain broad experience in every area. Within one month of starting at KPMG I was invited to join a large financial services client engagement that involved a three-month secondment in the city. I am now in my third year on this engagement, and am co-leading the team on-site in a managerial role – it has been an amazing experience. Another exciting experience was going on a business trip to Melbourne!

The biggest challenges in my role mostly stem from delving into the unknown. As you are given increasing responsibility you begin to step up into situations that are unfamiliar, whether it be reviewing work on a large scale off-site, or providing advice to CFOs of large corporates in a meeting or over the phone. These challenges and opportunities drive you to improve and develop confidence in yourself and your abilities.

Are you in your second year of study, and keen to get a foot in the door? KPMG’s Summer Intern programme supports you throughout your internship. Upon arrival you will attend an induction event which is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet your fellow interns and learn more about KPMG and what to expect over the coming weeks. During the programme there are several opportunities to develop your skills – and not necessarily those you would expect from an accounting firm! How are your cricket skills?

You’ll be working alongside our people from day one – discovering what it’s like to be part of a professional team, and exploring areas you might like to work in. You’ll get to experience the fun and social side of KPMG life too – as a bonus, you’ll also be here for our Christmas functions.

SUMMER

INTERNS Daniel Kelly Auditor, Audit Tauranga

Studied: Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Finance, at Victoria University. “I completed an internship with KPMG in Tauranga and really enjoyed both the office environment and the people I was working with on different clients.

“It was a challenge moving to an office environment from university as the work was very different, however you pick things up quickly and there’s a strong support network.

“I particularly enjoyed the variety of the work during my internship. A highlight was working on a job where I went on a site tour of a storage facility and met lots of different people. The variety I experienced during my internship and the opportunity to spend time out of the office working with different companies was a main reason why I chose to then join the Audit division as a graduate. “I also valued the social side of life at KPMG – such as our monthly boardroom events and plenty of opportunities to get involved in different sports teams.”

“I COMPLETED AN INTERNSHIP WITH KPMG IN TAURANGA AND REALLY ENJOYED BOTH THE OFFICE ENVIRONMENT AND THE PEOPLE I WAS WORKING WITH ON DIFFERENT CLIENTS.”
