What medical services are available? Here in Hanga Roa we have a hospital certified by Wilderness First Responder, where urgencies are received. This certification means they are prepared with all the knowledge and necessaries skills to help you in remote locations, or where big hospitals aren’t available.

For your own safety and the rest of us, only go through signed and authorized places

Do I need any vacuum? In Chile as in Easter Island no vacuum is needed, however, we always recommend the tourists to protect himself of typhoid fever, poliomyelitis, hepatitis and tetanus.

Only deposit you trash in available trashcans

May I drink tap water? The water of the town is totally safe to be drunk directly from the tap, but we always recommend locals and tourists to consume bottled or boiled water because some organisms are more susceptible to changes and can suffer a stomach-ache because the high mineral content.

Carry a bag to throw your trash away and dump it in authorized places

Drinkable water service There is only one company in Easter Island dedicated to the production and distribution of drinkable water, called SASIPA (Easter Island Agricultural Society and Services), this company is also dedicated to the distribution of electricity, to the ship load up and down and the management of Vaitea Farm.

The type of change used is very advisable. If you want to use credit cards to buy in Chile, you must verify if these had international coverage. We recommend you to carry some cash.

Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) There are four ATMs, one is next to Banco Estado and the other is next to Banco Santander, both of them open 24/7, it takes Visa, Mastercard, Cirrus, and local credit cards. Also there is one automatic teller machine in the gas station, Puna Vai, and other one in the airport. The maximum amount of money that you can withdraw is $200.000 Chilean pesos per day.

Banks There are two Banks, Banco Estado and Banco Santander, both with automatic teller machine. Opening time is from 8:00 am to 13:00 PM, from Monday to Friday.

Which one is the time zone? The time zone is UTC-6; UTC-5 in summer. It must be considered 2 hour less that continental Chile, 6 hour less in summer with Tahití, and 7 in winter.

Which languages are spoken? The official language in Chile is Spanish, and the Island language is Rapa Nui. The operators also talks English and French, the more spoken languages besides German.

Can you learn diving in Easter Island? Without a doubt it is possible to learn how to dive in Easter Island, but is recommended for those tourists who stays for a week or more because it is possible to take a full certificated diving course or can dive with a professional diving supervisor. Also if you are member of PADI, NAUI, or SSI your certification is recognized.

If you are traveling with children keep an eye on them

Electric Service Electric energy is also proportioned by SASIPA; which works only with 220 Volts, this energy is proportioned by generators, that is why the power off are so often.

Don’t get in prohibited places for tourist

Supermarkets The Island has good supply system, business opens from 10:00 am to 13:30 pm and from 17:00 pm to 21:00 pm. Some of them also open from 10 am to 12 pm.

Be cautious at the beach

Communication service: Internet and Phone There are several cyber cafes that also offer long distance phone calls. If mobile communication is needed we only work with ENTEL, other communication company’s charges extra for rooming service. Slow internet service all over the island, is it reliable only to check e-mails.

Aero transport service The cost per kilo of any perishable food is $1.900 CLP and to this it must be add the cost of the transport; it means the total cost of an apple’s kilo is $2.400

Do not eat product of unknown origin

Agricultural and livestock service. (SAG) According to chilean law a jury declaration of the things you get in here, must be done. It is forbidden to enter: fruits, seeds or grains, vegetables or animal products unprocessed, land, guns, ammo or explosives, illegal drugs, biological products, vet pharms, pets or animals, dead or alive.

Be cautious with your luggage and valuable belongs

Oil There is only one gas station where you supply yourself with oil or gas. The opening is from 8:00am to 22:00pm, every day of the week. The reference price is $710.- CLP per litre.
