REGISTRATION INFORMATION REGISTRATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Online registration is our preferred method and is highly recommended. You may register for programs online and will receive a receipt of your transaction sent to your email. Registrations are first come-first served. Please go to our website www.wayland.ma.us/pages/WaylandMA_recreation/index. Otherwise, to register, you may call our office at 508-358-3660, mail in your registration form, fax it to 508-358-3665, or in person at our office. Please be aware that some programs fill quickly - therefore, online registration is recommended.

REFUND POLICY Our classes are supported solely by fees. If you need to cancel a program, you must notify our office at least 10 business days before a program begins for a refund minus the administrative fee. After that time, no refunds are given except for medical reasons with a doctor’s note. Requests for refunds must be in writing (email accepted) with a short explanation. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks for processing. Cancelled classes due to low enrollment will be fully refunded. An administrative fee of $10 will be retained per person per program for youth withdrawals from fall, winter, spring programs, $20 for summer programs, and $10 for all adult programs. Refund and withdrawal requests for Summer Adventure, CIT, Wayland Escapes and Beach Buddies must be made in writing and received in our office by June 5. AFTER JUNE 5th, NO REFUNDS FOR THESE PROGRAMS WILL BE GRANTED. CANCELLATION POLICY No classes are held when Wayland schools have been cancelled. If a program is cancelled due to inclement weather or instructor absence, every attempt will be made to reschedule the class. In most cases, an additional week will be added to the end of the program to account for missed time. We are not responsible for any missed classes due to a participant’s inability to attend. This fast paced program focuses on exploring what everyday life was like for ancient Egyptians and offers children the opportunity to have a hands-on experience. Paulette Morin, M.Ed., is owner and operator of Fun with Science Programs. Over 18 years, Paulette has traveled throughout New England as a performance educator. She is an amateur Egyptologist and paleontologist.

Please Note: There is a $60 non-refundable fee to guarantee buses. After Dec. 5 there can be no withdrawals or refunds. Per Recreation Policy, all students who ride the bus to Nashoba MUST return to Wayland on the bus - NO exceptions. When registering, please make sure to select the correct program: Downhill or Snowboard (both include a lesson) or No Lesson (Middle School students only). Nashoba is no longer offering a Racing Program through the Recreation Department. Students interested in the Racing Program are asked to contact Nashoba directly for more information at 978-692-3033. Children are picked up by bus from the school they attend (Wayland Middle School, Happy Hollow, Claypit and Loker) and driven to Nashoba Valley Ski Area. Parent/Participant Information Packet will be e-mailed in early December so be sure to include your e-mail address when registering. max 42 per bus

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION: Buses pick up children at the Middle School at 2:25pm and Elementary Schools at 3:05pm and ALL BUSES RETURN TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL between 6:45pm - 7:00pm. PLEASE BE PROMPT for pick up. There is no skiing if school is cancelled or we have deteriorating road conditions at 11:45am. An email will be sent to parents. Call 508-358-3660 if in doubt. For safety reasons, children misbehaving on buses will be asked to leave the program and no refunds will be given.

EQUIPMENT RENTAL FITTING: Wayland Town Building Large Hearing Room, Tuesday, December 2, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Nashoba Valley Rental Shop Staff will be at the Town Building Hearing Room to fit equipment. The rental fee for skis and snowboards is $105 at the fitting. Please bring cash or check - NO credit cards. Helmets ($55) available for purchase...limited supply. Any child not fitted on December 2, MUST BE FITTED at the ski area before the start of the program, and the yellow rental slip must be dropped off at the Recreation office by Friday, December 12. A child will not be able to ski the first day unless prior fitting rental arrangements have been made.

CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED! These programs are made possible in large part due to parent volunteers. Please consider being a chaperone this year. We require two chaperones on each bus from every school. This year we are offering our chaperones a $100 credit toward their child’s ski program registration (one child per family).

In case of inclement weather, program is held at The Children’s Way. Under the guidance of experienced, caring instructors, children enjoy exploration, music, story time, nature, arts and crafts, beach play time and a WSI supervised recreational swim. Bring a bathing suit, towel. (Snack provided). Please pack your child a bag lunch. All children must have a beach membership which can be purchased online (non-residents can purchase a membership at the resident rate. Non-residents must call the Recreation Office to purchase a membership). FIELD TRIPS (subject to change) Pirate Cruise, PINZ Bowling, Cocoa Key Resort, Breezy Water Park, Southwick Zoo, Roller Kingdom Children are grouped according to grade and are placed under the guidance of caring counselors who greet their groups each morning. After that children rotate through a variety of activities including archery, soccer, basketball, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, science & nature, and drama. Wednesdays are pizza days, and Fridays are theme days. Some of last year’s themes were Wet and Wild Water Day, Carnival Day, 60’s Day, and Olympic Week. WAYLAND COUNCIL ON AGING (COA) COA provides PROGRAMS and SERVICES that reflect the unique social, educational, medical, financial and wellness needs of maturing adults (60 yrs+). The COA also serves as a senior advocate and vital resource for non-seniors who are confronting the challenges of an aging family member. For more information, contact the Wayland COA at 508-358-2990. View our newsletter at www.wayland.ma.us UPCOMING TRIPS: DECEMBER Tuesday, 12/9: Winter Reimagined at Tower Hill Botanical Garden. Cost: $16 for transportation and admission. Depart COA at 9:15. Return by 2:00. Wander through glittering indoor displays and illuminated trees and shrubs in the orchard, entry, lawn and winter gardens. A giant Bromeliad tree, hundreds of poinsettias, more than 1,500 hand-crafted ornaments and over six miles of lights make this a unique holiday experience. Twigs Café opens at 11am for a snack or light lunch. Monday, 12/15: Russo’s Market in Watertown & Ocean State Job Lot in Waltham. Depart COA at 9:30. Return by 12:30. We will make two stops, first at Ocean State Job Lot in Waltham, then down the street at Russo’s in Watertown. Ocean State Job Lot offers a variety of items at bargain prices. Great for holiday shopping. Russo’s offers a large selection of holiday items including wreaths, trees and fresh cut flowers and plants as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, a bakery, a delicatessen, and delicious prepared foods and specialty foods. N/C but registration required. Wayland Residents Only JANUARY Tuesday, 1/6: New Market Basket in Waltham. Home pick ups begin at 9:15, return home by 12:30 PM. Visit the brand new Market Basket and while there you can also check out the new Marshalls. No cost, but registration required. Wayland residents only. FEBRUARY Wednesday, 2/18: Taza Chocolate Factory Tour and Assembly Row in Somerville. Cost: $15 for transportation and tour. Lunch on your own. Depart COA at 10:15, Return by 3:00. Our first stop will be at the Taza Chocolate factory which makes stone ground, organic chocolate. Learn how Taza Chocolate is made from bean-to-bar. Tour-goers get a close up view of vintage chocolate making machines, and an in-depth explanation of the bean-to-bar journey from expert Chocolate guides. And of course, plenty of chocolate samples are provided. After the tour, we will head to Assembly Row, a new shopping and entertainment complex where you can have lunch (on your own) or shop.

MEDICARE Open Enrollment ends, Dec. 7. Call the COA to schedule an appointment with a trained SHINE Volunteer for free, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to Medicare beneficiaries. Monday Ukulele Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 ; 11am-Noon; Pay by month: $3/class ($15 for December) or pay as you go: $5/class. Daniel Metraux, Instructor. For new participants, first class is free.
