Project Information Title: VOSIDIS - Specialized vocational training for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities Project Number: LLP-LDV-TOI-2008-SI-34 Year: 2008 Project Type: Transfer of Innovation Status: completed Country: SI-Slovenia Marketing Text: The project entitled Specialized vocational training for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities (PSPID) is aiming at developing work-related skills and competences of PSPID by providing them specialized working skills training, enabling their inclusion into the working process and developing a systematic approach to their working skills training in the participating countries Slovenia, Bulgaria and Portugal. Summary: The project entitled Specialized vocational training for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities (PSPID) is aiming at developing work-related skills and competences of PSPID by providing them specialized working skills training, enabling their inclusion into the working process and developing a systematic approach to their working skills training in the participating countries Slovenia, Bulgaria and Portugal. The VOSIDIS project is partly cofinanced (75 %) by the European Union, within the Lifelong Learning Leonardo da Vinci programme. First activities of the project began in October 2008, duration of the project is 22 months.
The applicant of the project is Centre for qualifying, work and social care rna na Koroškem, Slovenia.

The most important project outcome will be the developed methodology for working skills training of PSPID, accompanied by motivational training modules and seminars for trainers. Pilot implementation of trainings will be conducted for their verification. On the basis of all results the Guide for vocational training of PSPID will be published that will be targeted at professionals and decision makers. Dissemination activities will assure promotion of the methodology in professional public and combat prejudice against PSPID in the general public.
Short term project impact will be improved skills and competences of PSPID, who will be included in the training and working process, and of their trainers. The methodology will become a useful training tool integrated in the everyday work with PSPID in all partner institutions. It will be applicable also to other institutions working with people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities. On the long term this could result in the inclusion of a visible number of PSPID into working processes, which will bring an increased meaning to their life and a positive impact on their inclusion in the society.

Description: Rationale The European and national legislations are promoting the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in vocational training and labour market for the improvement of their position in the society. Different approaches exist for people with physical and moderate intellectual disabilities. However, it has been a neglected area for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities (PSPID) who are not included in the labour market and there is no systematic approach to their vocational training in the participating countries. Aims and objectives The aim of the project is to develop work-related skills and competences of PSPID by providing them specialized vocational training and enable their inclusion into the working process. This will be achieved by elaborating vocational training methodology for PSPID by transferring the existing methodology for people with moderate disabilities to the new target group in all participating countries. We will verify the methodology with pilot implementation and establish specialized working positions for PSPID in the applicant’s premises. Partnership The aims of the project will be achieved by continuous cooperation of four partners. Three professional institutions that are putting a lot of effort into making life easier for PSPID will bring together the newest knowledge and experience in Slovenia, Bulgaria and Portugal for developing educational methodology applicable for broader use. Since they are all regularly in contact with national structures they will facilitate the transfer of the methodology to other similar institutions. Project coordination will be lead by a project consulting company.
