Previous Professional Positions and Experience (continued) 1985-1986 Research Associate, Department of Special Education, George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University. 1981-1982 Graduate Research Assistant, the Institute on Mental Retardation and Intellectual Development of George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University. The Institute was a program project funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Research activities focused on language acquisition in preschool children. 1981-1983 Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, Classroom in the Experimental School of the John F. Kennedy Center for Research on Education and Human Development. Duties included the implementation of early intervention services for two-, three-, and four-year-old children with developmental delays, economic disadvantages, histories of severe abuse or neglect, and without developmental delays. 1978-1981 Research Behavioral Scientist in Mental Retardation, George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University. The Research Behavioral Scientist in Mental Retardation Program was a predoctoral research-training program funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Research activities focused on the development of imitation skills, self-help skills, and language with adults and children who are developmentally disabled. 1979 Internship, the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. James Foshee, PhD, Assistant Commissioner of Mental Retardation, supervised the internship. 1977-1978 Liaison/Teacher Counselor, Developmental Therapy Program in the Children & Youth Section of Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The preschool program served children (2-6 years of age) who were autistic, developmentally delayed, and behavior disordered. Duties included classroom instruction with children, individual and group parent education and support activities, home-based parent training, transition services to the next educational placement, and consultation with public school personnel. 1976-1977 Liaison Supervisor, Children & Youth Services of Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The program provided educational and therapeutic services to more than 100 children who were emotionally disturbed. Duties included direct supervision of 10 liaison/teacher counselors and 2 secretaries, service coordination and consultation for children and youth who were emotionally disturbed, program development and management, and community relations. 1975-1976 Liaison/Teacher Counselor, Pine Breeze Center, the adolescent unit of Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
