OLV SENIORS CLUB Once again we’d like to invite ALL the seniors (50+) of Our Lady of the Valley to come to our December meeting on Wednesday, December 14th in the Parish Hall at 11 am for a short meeting followed by a delicious lunch with a great group of seniors, some whom have been OLV parishioners for over 40 years. The cost for lunch is $6.00 and is truly the best meal deal in Canoga Park. The menu for December is Holiday Pork Loins, Yam Medallions, green salad, fruit salad, garlic bread, desserts, coffee, tea or water. We have many door prizes; two 50/50 drawings and usually play BINGO after the meetings. The meeting is conducted entirely in English, but our group consists of many bi-lingual members who will be happy to make sure you understand what is happening. What a great way to increase your English vocabulary! B I E N V E N I D O!

CHRISTMAS: December 20th NEW YEAR'S DAY: December 23rd

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS Next week the 2nd collection will be for the retirement fund for Religious...please be generous! Aging religious need your help. Thousands of aging senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests spent years working in the Catholic schools, hospitals and agencies...often for little pay. Their sacrifices leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious collection helps provide prescription medications, nursing care, and more. Please give to those who have given a lifetime.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT A SEASON OF HOPE Today we can bask in the imagery that the Mass readings offer us. In particular, Isaiah’s vision of a parched land that blooms with abundant flowers holds a message for each of us. Too often we are just like that parched land. We can allow ourselves to become absorbed in the waves of consumerism that grip so many. We look for fulfillment in the things that money can buy. Unfortunately, this leaves us like parched land, thirsting for something that money can’t buy. This holy season has much to offer to quench our thirsts. In a word, this season offers hope. We are told that those who are ransomed by God will know joy and gladness. For them, sorrow and mourning will be no more. Let us place our hope in these promises.

DID YOU KNOW? Pokémon Go stops could lead kids to dangerous places With the popular game Pokémon Go, kids can interact with virtual game components in real-life locations. Some features of the game can present serious dangers for children using the app and interacting with other gamers. “PokéStops” – locations in which players can collect Pokémon – can be anywhere, and recently, one was reported to be at the entrance of a rehabilitation center that housed sex offenders. Parents should be aware of the game’s features and monitor children’s use to ensure that any Pokémon collecting is done safely. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Pokémon Go and Social Networking,” email: [email protected] or call 213-637-7227.
