On page 7, you’ll find the traditional “Top 75” list, naming the 75 biggest law firms across Virginia, along with the number of lawyers at each firm. And you’ll find regional rankings for seven different regions in the commonwealth, beginning on page 9. The survey includes other information, such as location(s) of offices, addresses and phone numbers. Some firms took the opportunity to purchase an enhanced listing with additional information, such as the firm Web site address, areas of practice, firm contacts and other significant data.

METHODOLOGY The annual survey of “Virginia’s Largest Law Firms” is based on the number of Virginia-licensed lawyers practicing from an office located within the commonwealth. This winter, using e-mail and making follow-up telephone calls, we solicited current information from all the firms that appeared in the 2006 survey. Many firms responded with their 2007 data. For those that did not respond, we used independent outside sources to determine the ranking; typically we obtained the numbers from the firms’ own Web sites or from Martindale-Hubbell. For those firms, the listing contains an asterisk (*) after the firm name. All qualifying law firms in the survey were provided a basic listing in this booklet. A number of law firms took the opportunity to purchase an enhanced listing in the survey booklet, adding information such as firm logo, firm Web site address, clients, firm contacts and areas of practice.
