Art Lives on Camano Island! Welcome to the 16th Annual Camano Island Studio Tour. We invite you to join us for the Camano Island Studio Tour, which is one of the most unique art experiences in the region. This free self-guided tour features the art of 41 Juried artists, 3 galleries, and new this year, we’ve invited distinguished artist, Alfred Currier, of Anacortes, Wa., to be our 2014 Studio Tour Featured artist. The tour features some of the finest and most diverse artists and galleries in the Pacific Northwest. See the artist’s studios, learn how they create their art and what inspires them. See artists in action as they are working on new pieces. As artists, there’s nothing we love more than to share our love of art with others. It means so much when we see visitors make a connection with our art and the community and the surroundings that inspire it. We look forward to sharing our stories and our art with you. While the tour itself is free, and there is no obligation to make a purchase, we are confident that you may find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, for yourself, or for someone special.

On Camano Island and the surrounding Stanwood area While visiting our artists, take a break to explore the natural wonders of our Island Community and the Stanwood area. Bring a picnic lunch to relax and to enjoy our parks. There are beautiful beaches to enjoy or stroll through the scenic trails. Enjoy the wildlife and spectacular scenery. This is the largest single event on the island, so be sure to visit our local businesses and sponsors. The Camano Arts Association is committed to sustaining a unique artist community that supports arts education and the promotion and support of visual arts in our Camano Island and Stanwood community. In addition to our annual Studio Tour, we offer college scholarships to local high school students, a mentor program and public arts programs.

Camano Island Studio Tour Featured Artist

The Camano Island Studio Tour has invited well-known, internationally collected, impasto and landscape artist, Alfred Currier, to be our Featured Guest Artist for the 2014 Studio Tour. Residing in Anacortes, he is a treasure here in Washington State. His impasto oils have afforded him his own voice in the art world. He has dedicated his life to his passion and supports himself as a successful professional painter. Alfred received his degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago and has literally painted throughout the United States and around the world. Brilliant colors and textures, are representative of Alfred’s unique style. One of his colorful tulip paintings was the artwork chosen for the Skagit Valley’s world famous Tulip Festival poster. He also is well known for his paintings of migrant workers working in the Skagit Valley farmlands. He was quoted as saying, “It’s not about the tulips or the painting but more importantly about the migrant workers.” His paintings bring an awareness to the necessary work the migrant workers do, helping to prevent their work from being overlooked and or forgotten. Alfred is an advocate for these special people who help to provide food and flowers for consumers near and far. We are very excited for you to see this special artist’s works during the studio tour. Alfred Currier’s works will be on display during the Studio Tour at the Forte’, Music, Dance, Art, CAA Studio Tour Venue # 30, on the NW corner of Camano Island, near Utsalady Beach, address: 1095 Essex St. A1. Camano Island Studio Tour Cover Artist

Sadly, one of our longtime CAA members, Fred Pilkington, passed away on July 16, 2013. He was a talented artist and many studio tour visitors enjoyed his artwork on display at Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park. He was well known for his etchings and block prints. As a highly decorated World War II Veteran, he survived stepping on a land mine during the Battle of the Bulge and being held in German prison camps.  For his efforts in the war, he received several awards including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Born in the Bronx, NY, Fred and his wife, Mary, lived on beautiful, idyllic Camano Island since 1987. They traveled the world and pursued their love of the outdoors. He was a sculptor, painter, and print maker who exhibited and won awards for his art in New York and Washington. At 90, he had lived a long life - to its fullest - and was retired more years than he worked. He was an Army Colonel, an educator, an artist, a traveler, and an adventurer.
