1. INSTALLING AND ACTIVATING VIDEO ESSENCE Before you can start using Video Essence to discover and curate videos, you’ll need to install and activate it on your WordPress site. SERVER REQUIREMENTS WordPress version: at least 3.5. PHP version: at least 5.4 with MCrypt PHP Extension. Free disk space: at least 12mb. Installation can be done via the WordPress dashboard or your cPanel (or ftp).

1.1 Installation via WordPress dashboard Step 1 Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. On the left-hand menu, hover over “Plugins”. On the slide-out menu, click “Add new”.

On the “add new plugin” page, click the “Upload plugin” button to upload the Video Essence plugin. Click “Install now” to install the plugin. Step 2 Click the “Activate” button to activate the plugin.

1.2 Installation via cPanel (or ftp) Installation via WordPress dashboard is definitely the fastest way to get your plugin installed. However, in some cases, the plugin file might be too large and installation via WordPress dashboard will fail. A quick workaround to this is installing the plugin through your site’s cPanel or ftp.

Step 1 Log in to your cPanel. Under File management, click on “File manager” and select the domain you want to install the plugin.

When the file manager opens, you will see all the files you have for that domain. Locate and open the folder “wp-content”. Inside the “wp-content” folder, click on the subfolder “plugins”. In the plugins sub-folder, upload the Video Essence plugin and extract the zip file. Step 2 Go back to your WordPress dashboard. Click on “plugins” which is located in the left hand menu. Locate the Video Essence plugin and activate it.

2. SETTING UP VIDEO ESSENCE 2.1 Setting up an email service provider You can easily collect email leads from your site visitors and grow your subscribers. That requires you to add a “Lead generation form” ROI campaign while curating a video. Video Essence integrates seamlessly with some of the popular email marketing platforms such as Aweber, ConstantContact, GetResponse, iContact, and Mailchimp. If your favorite email application is not included, you can contact our support center and we’ll consider integrating it. Video Essence also supports 3rd party HTML5 form code.

2.1.1 Connecting Video Essence to Aweber Click the Aweber icon under “Email applications”. On the new page that opens, click on the Authenticate button. The Aweber login page will open; sign in and grant access to Video Essence to access your Aweber account. Once complete, you will be redirected back to Video Essence.

2.1.2 Connecting Video Essence to ConstantContact Click the ConstantContact icon under “Email applications”. On the new page that opens, fill in your API key and Access token. Then click the “Save settings” button.

2.1.3 Connecting Video Essence to GetResponse Click the GetResponse icon under “Email applications”. On the new page that opens, click on the Authenticate button. The GetResponse login page will open; sign in and grant access to Video Essence to access your account. Once complete, you will be redirected back to Video Essence.

2.1.4 Connecting Video Essence to iContact Click the iContact icon under “Email applications”. On the new page that opens, fill in your App id, API username and password. Then click the “Save settings” button.

2.1.5 Connecting Video Essence to Mailchimp Click the Mailchimp icon under “Email applications”. On the new page that opens, fill in your API key and click the “Save settings” button.

2.1.6 Using a HTML5 form code Click on the HTML form code icon. When the integration pages opens, enter the title of your form (name of your provider) and paste the html code of the form. Click “Convert” and Video Essence automatically extracts the necessary data from the form. Click the “Submit” button for finish setup.

2.1.7 Disconnect my email account To disconnect Video Essence from your email account, simply hover on the app icon and click the “X” button. A confirmation screen will pop up. Click the “Disconnect” button to disconnect Video Essence.

2.2 Customizing Video Essence player The stellar design of the Video Essence player can be customized to fit the color scheme of your site. You can also display your business logo on the player. This will improve your brand trust and conversion.

To customize the player color, simply go to “Skin color” and select your desired color. You can set the player controls to:

Show on hover – This will hide the video controls and display them once the viewer hovers over the video area. From a user experience point of view, this is usually the best option and we have set it as default. Always display: This will keep the video controls on the video always even when the mouse pointer is outside the video area. Always hide: The video controls are hidden and viewers cannot seek the video. This is the preferable option for marketers who want their viewers to watch their entire videos without skipping any parts. The logo image should have a maximum size of 50 x 50px. However, if images above this size are uploaded, Video Essence automatically readjusts to fit the player. You can set the logo position to either top left or right. The Logo target URL is the link that will be opened when the logo is clicked.

3. VIDEO DISCOVERY Easily search and discover top-ranking videos across YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion for any keyword. When you first open the “Curation and content” page, daily top-trending videos are shown. Enter your keyword in the discovery field and click the “Discovery” button. It might take up to 12 seconds before search results start showing. You can also enter the YouTube direct video/channel URL (Vimeo and Dailymotion video URL’s are not supported) and click the “Discover” button to discover the video.

Use the options – Upload date, Length, Sort by, and Source to filter the search results. Upload date: This filters the video results according to their upload date. You can select: Last hour, Today, This week, This month or This year. Results are reordered chronologically. Length: This filters the video by the length (duration). Source: Filters the search results to show only videos from a specific platform. You can choose from YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion. Sort By: Video results can be sorted by Video rating, View count, Relevance or Upload date. By default, results are sorted by Relevance. Select from the results the video you want to curate and click the “Start Building Now” button. You can select an unlimited number of videos, though doing so is not advisable as setting them all up at the same time will be a little difficult. You can keep it at around 3-7 videos at a time.

4. BUILD – SOCIAL CONTENTS AND ROI CAMPAIGN 4.1 Basic post settings In the build page, you can customize the post title, body, and add keywords and tags. The title and description are automatically imported. It is usually advisable to add more content to the body field.

You can add practically an unlimited number of keywords and tags for each post. Video Essence uses this data to create an automatic XML sitemap for each video. In other words, they are used for automatic video SEO.

4.2 Robot meta – Index, Follow. No Index – When this option is selected, search engines will not index the post (for SEO, set value to “Index”). No Follow – Search engines won’t recognize the backlinks on the post (for SEO, set value to “follow”).

4.3 Twitter Integrating Twitter feeds into your post gives it a better ranking authority. Simply enter the search keyword and click the “Search” button. You can select an unlimited number of tweets though we advise you keep it around 2-7. Selected tweets are moved to the right-hand side. To unselect, simply click the “X” button beside the tweet.

4.4 Google+ This is similar to Twitter. Add between 2 - 7 Google+ posts.

4.5 ROI Campaign The inbuilt ROI Automation module allows you to engage your visitors and scoop up leads and sales effortlessly on complete autopilot. Some of the strategies include Lead capture forms, video ad serving, banners, Video Annotations, and CTA buttons.

4.5.1 Lead Capture Form Lead capture forms are used to collect email leads from viewers who watch your video. This feature requires integration to a 3rd party email-marketing platform to work (We have discussed in-depth on this topic here SETTING UP VIDEO ESSENCE). To add a Lead capture form to you video, click on the “Add ROI campaign” button and a pop up screen will appear. Select “Lead capture form” and click “Customize”.

Headline: This should be catchy and direct to the point. Try to keep your headline between 2 – 8 words. Sub-headline: You can enter more information here and mention the benefits of subscribing to your list. We advise that you don’t go beyond 20 words (Note: the subheadline is optional). Button text: Viewers will click this button after entering their emails (and name) to subscribe. Keep it simple and try not to go beyond 3 words. Colors: The Button color is the color of your subscription button. The Background overlay color is set to black by default. You can also control the color opacity.

Email service provider: This is the email client you want to pass information (names and email address) to after subscription to your list. Display if video is paused: When this option is selected, the lead capture form will appear once the user pauses the video. Allow skip: When this option is selected, a small text “Skip” is displayed on the form overlay. This way, viewers can make the decision of subscribing. Ask for names: When selected, a new “Names” field is included in the form. This option is necessary when you also want to collect names from subscribers. Opt-in form will appear: Use this to set the time you want the form to appear on the video. When you are done customizing your campaign, click the “Add campaign to video” button.

4.5.2 Video Ad You can play a video ad while viewers are watching their requested video. While setting up a video ad campaign, note that ad videos should not be too long. In the case of long videos, include a skip button so you don’t hurt the engagement of the main video. To include an ad video to you main video, click on the “Add ROI campaign” button and a pop up screen will appear. Select “Video ad” and click “Customize”.

Video ad source: This is the source URL link of the video. Video Essence currently supports only YouTube videos for ads. After entering the source link, click on “Preview” to show the video. Note that the video ad will not play on the pop up. Target URL: This is the URL that opens if, while watching the ad, the viewer clicks on the video area. URL must start with http://. Button text: You can include a CTA button that will be displayed alongside the video ad. Allow skip: When this option is selected, a “Skip” button is displayed on the video. It is advisable if your ad video is long (above 30 seconds) to select the skip option. Video ad will appear: Use this to set the time the ad video will be played. When you are done customizing your campaign, click the “Add campaign to video” button.

4.5.3 Annotation A call to action text will be displayed on the video. This is usually a preferable way to get the users attention without interrupting the viewing experience. To add an annotation to your video, click on the “Add ROI campaign” button and a pop up screen will appear. Select “Annotation” and click “Customize”.

Text: This is the annotation text that will be displayed on the video. It is usually advisable you keep it direct to the point and below 20 words. You can also customize the font color and size. Annotation can be dragged across the video area to any desired position. Background color: This is the annotation background color. Target URL: This is the URL link that will open when the annotation is clicked. Display if video is paused: When this option is selected, the annotation will be displayed if the viewer pauses the video. Show close button: A small “X” button is displayed on the annotation layer so viewers can close it. Annotation will appear at: Set the timeline when the annotation will be displayed on the video. When you are done customizing your campaign, click the “Add campaign to video” button.

4.5.4 CTA button A call to action button will be displayed on the video. This is usually a preferable way to get the users attention without interrupting the viewing experience. To add a CTA button to your video, click on the “Add ROI campaign” button and a pop up screen will appear. Select “CTA button” and click “Customize”.

Button text: CTA button texts should be direct to the point (and should not go beyond 10 words. Shorter button texts like ‘Buy now’, ‘Download now’, and ‘Get it Free Now’ work best). Target URL: This is the URL link that will open when the button is clicked. Display if video is paused: When selected, the CTA button will be displayed if the viewer pauses the video. CTA button will appear at: Set the timeline when the CTA button will be displayed on the video. When you are done customizing your campaign, click the “Add campaign to video” button.

4.5.5 Banner

Choose image file: Upload your banner image. The optimal banner image size for Video Essence banners is 730 by px Target URL: This is the URL link that will open when the banner is clicked. Display if video is paused: When this option is selected, the banner will be displayed if the viewer pauses the video. Show close button: A small “X” button is displayed on the banner image so viewers can close it. Annotation will appear at: Set the timeline when the banner will be displayed on the video.

5. AUTHORITY – REFERENCES AND RELATED VIDEOS 5.1 References References are direct links to authority websites where similar topics to your post are discussed. Adding references to your posts in Video Essence is similar to integrating Tweets and Google+ posts. Enter a keyword and click the “Search” button. Select 1-6 references from the search results.

5.2 Related videos Related videos will generally increase your website’s engagement and retention. Video Essence automatically searches for related videos once you open the “Authority” page. You can also enter a new keyword and search. Select up to 4-7 related videos. Selected videos are added to the right hand side panel under the main video.

6. SCHEDULING AND PUBLISHING Posts in Video Essence can be published immediately or be scheduled to automatically publish on a later date. To optimally publish, first choose a post category (or add a new category using the “Ass category” button), then select when you want to publish the post. Select “Publish immediately” if you want the post to be live immediately or “Schedule for later” and choose the time when you the post published. When selecting a time, make sure the time zone (the same with your WordPress site) is set correctly.

7. DASHBOARD AND STATS The Video Essence dashboard shows you at a glance the status and performance of all your posts. This includes analytics on ROI campaigns including clicks, views (video ad) and the number of subscribers (Lead capture form). The rest of the functions such as View post, Unpublish, Trash, and Edit work are similar to native WordPress.

8. INSTALLING AND SETTING UP VIDEO ESSENCE THEME The Video Essence Modernist and the Lightning themes are designed to work in correlation with the Video Essence plugin. This does not mean that you cannot install them on any of your other WordPress sites. The themes lay out all your posts in a beautiful card interface. This makes it easier for users to navigate your site. Just like any other WordPress theme, Video Essence themes can be installed via the WordPress admin dashboard or your cPanel (or ftp).

8.1 Installation via WordPress dashboard Step 1 Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. On the left-hand menu, hover over “Appearance”. On the slide-out menu, click “Themes”.

On the “Themes” page, click “Add new”, then click the “Upload theme” button to upload your Video Essence theme. Click “Install now” to install the plugin. Step 2 After installation, click “Activate” to activate the theme.

Is It Legal To Curate Videos I Don’t Own? Heck Yeah! Users of popular video sites like YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion have their videos by default “set to public & allow embedding”, essentially giving you the full rights to curate and embed their videos as you deem fit as long as you don’t claim ownership. Curating and Embedding video in sites is public knowledge and Google loves sites that embed videos and ranks them super high in the SERPs.
