WHY VIDEO CAMERA? Introducing Our Unique Features Shot n. A single piece of video that begins when a camera starts recording and ends when the camera cuts.

Session n. A complete project in Video Camera, including multiple shots, music and credits. A session begins when you start the recording process, and concludes when you save it to memory.

Video Camera is a powerful, versatile application that’s simple and intuitive to use. We’re going to cover some unique features that make it superior to other camera applications. Traditional cameras create single shots of video that have to be compiled in a separate editing system, and then exported out to share. This cumbersome system of compiling, editing, and exporting is inconvenient and time consuming. Video Camera allows you to perform the entire process in a single session. Video Camera uses patented Record-Cut-Resume (RCR) technology to initiate, manage, and complete sessions.

Clip n. A shorter, edited down portion of a shot.

Sequence n. Multiple clips arranged in a particular order to create a finished video. Could also include music.

Resume Recording New Shot

End Session Save Shots

As you use the RCR function to create shots you will have options to refine them into clips, arrange them into a sequence using Live Non-linear Editing (LiNE), Video Camera’s proprietary interface which quickly transforms shots without having to exit the live preview screen. The next section “Shooting to Sharing” will familiarize you with the Record-Cut-Resume function, Live Non-linear Editing (LiNE), and outline the basics of Video Camera in eight easy steps.

SHOOTING TO SHARING Step 1: Preparing to Shoot Zoom v. To change the camera’s field of view and apparently bring the subject closer (zoom in) or further away (zoom out). Video Camera uses the device’s built in electronic zoom.

Focus v. The shift of optical elements within a camera’s lens to bring an image into sharp clarity. Manual focus allows the user to set what point in the image is used to find critical focus.

White Balance n. A setting that tells the camera’s sensor what color light is true white (i.e. daylight, tungsten, fluorescent). Video Camera automatically adjusts this, however you can lock this.

Once you’ve purchased Video Camera through the iTunes Store and downloaded it to your supported device please open the application. Point the camera lens toward your subject, using the main screen to properly frame up your image. Adjust the Zoom Slider as desired, and allow the camera to automatically adjust focus, white balance, and exposure.* * Visit www.i4videocamera.com/support.php for Video Tutorials

Exposure n. The amount of light reaching the camera’s sensor, controlled by the iris (aperture), sensitivity (iso), and shutter speed. Video Camera automatically adjusts these, however you can lock this.

SHOOTING TO SHARING Step 2: Begin Your Session

Pressing the RCR button to begin recording makes the REC light and run time appear in the upper left. Pressing the RCR button again to cut recording brings up a menu prompt. Reminder Orient your device horizontally (landscape) when preparing to use Video Camera. Be sure that none of your fingers are obscuring camera lenses or microphone ports, such as the iPhone 4 microphone highlighted above.

Select “Export Clip” if you are only recording a single clip, which will be exported out to your camera roll. Select “Build Movie” to begin a new session where you will shoot and edit multiple shots with Video Camera. For the purpose of the Quick Start please select “Build Movie”.

Step 3: Using the Live Non-Linear Editor Transition n. An optical effect used to help bridge two clips, one leading and one following, into one another.

Fade Black n. Type of transition; the leading clip darkens until the screen is black and then the process is reversed into the following clip.

Fade White n. Type of transition; the leading clip brightens until the screen is white and then the process is reversed into the following clip.

Dissolve n. Type of transition; similar to a fade, except the leading clip is blended directly into the following clip, i.e. one image dissolves into the next.

A timeline has now appeared on the screen, showing that a new session has been created. You will be prompted to chose a transition. Selecting one will add it to your timeline. The power of LiNE is your ability to modify clips without exiting the main camera screen. Tap a clip in the timeline to bring up the Preview screen.* Tap a transition in the timeline to change the transition. * Visit www.i4videocamera.com/support.php for Video Tutorials

Step 4: Adding More Shots Reminder

Now you are ready to continue shooting.

The goal of a session is to create a video sequence, not just a single shot.

1. Press the Record-Cut-Resume button to resume recording a new shot, OR

You’ll want to begin with the end in mind; that is what shots will make up that completed sequence. Press the RCR button for the first time to initiate the session.

2

2. Once you have the desired shots press the DONE button to end your session.

Create multiple shots by pressing the Cut and Resume buttons.

Continue this cycle until you have all the shots needed for a sequence. Press the DONE button to complete the session. 6

SHOOTING TO SHARING Step 5: Adding Background Music Warning Be sure not to violate copyright laws when adding music to your videos. Using music in your videos without obtaining the owners permission can result in serious consequences. Violating copyrights in videos uploaded to a sharing service or social network run the risk of having the video altered, suspended, or removed, as well as legal repercussions, per the terms of agreement with that organization.

Reminder Always balance the video volume and the music volume.

After pressing DONE you’ll be prompted to select some Background Music. Video Camera includes some rights-free songs that are safe to use online. You also have the option of using your own songs from your device’s library. Press the NEXT button in the upper right hand corner to continue.

There are times when you may want the music very low, if you want to hear someone talking. There are other times where you may want the music very high, if you want to cover up a lot of background noise. Always make sure the volume is appropriately set before sharing. 7

SHOOTING TO SHARING Step 6: Adding Titles and Credits Titles n. Text that goes at the beginning of a video. Usually done in a single frame, sometimes called a Title Card.

Credits n. Text that goes at the end of a video. Usually created to scroll vertically, sometimes called a Credit Crawl.

After selecting the music you’ll be prompted to add some Titles and Credits to your video. Three professional-quality studio intros are included with Video Camera, giving you the option to add an epic feel to your project. The ability to change the formatting of the font and colors used in the titles and credits can be found by tapping the FONTS button in the upper right hand corner.* Select the FINISH button in the upper right hand corner to complete your session. * Visit www.i4videocamera.com/support.php for Video Tutorials

SHOOTING TO SHARING Step 7: Saving Your Session Warning Your session is not saved until you’ve answered this prompt. Closing the app prior to completing this step will result in a loss of the session. If you’re unsure if you have the time to process, it’s safer to select LATER and then SAVE the video from the editing menu.

Remember You can always make changes to your session from the editing menu. This includes transitions, music, titles, and credits.

After adding your titles and credits you’ll then be asked if you want to process the video now or later. The amount of time needed to process depends on the video resolution, length of the shots, and the transitions used. Once you’ve answered this prompt your session is saved to the memory of your device.

If you selected to process the video now you’ll have options to share your finished video directly from the Video Camera app. Select your output method and follow the on screen directions to upload and share your video. Some sharing methods may take you outside the Video Camera app, however your video is safe because your session has been saved.
