Transportation requests for field trips. (5 votes) a. Members of SADD (9) and Kathy Allio to Valley Grove Elementary School on October 21, 2016 to present Red Ribbon Week to VGES students. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget). b. Valley Grove Elementary 2nd and 3rd grade students (120), teachers (Brandy Ellis, Lisa Mulholland, Bryan Ziegler, Stephanie Gordon, Melissa Wolfgong, Julianne Plumer), Jeffrey Clark, and parent chaperones to the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, PA on November 2, 2016. Students will complete hockey-related math, reading and science activities prior to viewing an Erie Otters hockey game. The cost is $640.90 for two buses (Elementary Budget). Admission costs will be covered by the PTO. c. Rocky Grove High School Academic Sports League members (14 students) and coach Kathleen Allio, along with the members and coach of Oil City High School’s Academic Sports League to the following academic decathlon events in Erie, PA: • November 5, 2016 (competition) • December 3, 2016 (competition) • January 7, 2017 (competition) • February 3-4, 2017 (regional competition) • May 24, 2017 (awards program) Transportation costs will be shared equally with Oil City High School for the first three competitions and the awards program. Valley Grove School District’s portion of transportation costs (one bus) will be $125.21 for each trip (Secondary Budget). For the February regional competition, nine Valley Grove students will attend. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget).

Rocky Grove High School 11th grade students (67) and teachers (Carrie Beightol, Kathy Allio, Beth Proper, Christina Engles) to Pitt Titusville College and Career Fair in Titusville, PA on November 10, 2016. The cost is $231.57 for two buses (Secondary Budget). Travel expenses will be reimbursed by Pitt Titusville. e. RGHS music students (120), teachers (Jodi Hoover, Kolby Martin, Christina Luxbacher), and parent chaperones (7) to Barrow Civic Theater in Franklin, PA on November 10, 2016 to see a live theatrical performance of Hansel and Gretel. The cost is $158.62 for transportation (2 buses) (Secondary Budget) and $480.00 for admission. Admission costs will be covered by activity fund and students. f.

Grades 9-12 French students (9 or 10) and Jaclyn Keller to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Squirrel Hill on November 16, 2016 from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Students will take part in a one-hour French conversation program led by an instructor. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget).

g. Members of Rocky Grove High School Senior High Choir (45), Jodi Hoover, and parent chaperones to Clarion University in Clarion, PA on November 18, 2016 to see a production of Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead. The cost will be $178.26 for transportation (1 bus) (Secondary Budget) and $135.00 for admission. Admission costs will be covered by activity fund and students. h. RGHS Senior High Choir and Select Choir students (50), teacher (Jodi Hoover) and volunteer (Kristen Criado) to site TBD in downtown Franklin to perform for annual Christmas luncheons for Rotary & Kiwanis as requested by the service groups on dates TBD (usually 2nd week in December, they contact us 2-4 weeks in advance every year). The cost is $79.31 for one bus (Secondary Budget). i.

Rocky Grove High School French students (20), Valley Grove Elementary gifted students (15), Jaclyn Keller, Susan Martin, and two parent chaperones to the three museums at The Frick Pittsburgh and the Paris 66 Café on December 16, 2016. The cost is $460.73 for one bus (Gifted Budget/Secondary Budget shared).

RGHS Senior High Choir members (TBD) and teacher (Jodi Hoover) to Marion Center High School with qualifying students to participate in the PMEA District III choir competition on January 12-14, 2017. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget).

k. Grades 5-6 students (120) and teachers (Ben Barrett, Darren Wenner, Amy Nixon, Michele Bain, Mark Ferringer, Amanda Culver, Kasey Latshaw, Brandy Jackson) to Avalanche Xpress in Meadville, PA on a Friday in January or February (weather-dependent) as a reward for positive behavior. The cost is $345.92 for two buses, and approximately $1,320.00 for admission (Elementary Budget). l.

Grades 10-11 gifted students (13) and Susan Martin to the National College Fair at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA on February 9, 2017. The students will meet with representatives from over 200 colleges. This is part of their GIEPs. Transportation (one bus) will be provided by Franklin Area School District.

m. RGHS music students in grades 7-8 (72), teacher (Jodi Hoover), and parent chaperones (4) to Barrow Civic Theater in Franklin, PA to see a live theatrical performance of “Robin Hood the Musical” on February 16, 2017. The cost is $158.62 and will be covered by activity fund and students.

Valley Grove Elementary 2nd grade students (60) and teachers (Mr. Ziegler, Ms. Mulholland, Ms. Ellis) to the Barrow Civic Theater in Franklin, PA on February 17, 2017 to attend a performance of Sleeping Beauty by the Oil Region Ballet. Tickets are being provided free of cost by Jamie’s Kids. The cost is $79.31 for one bus (Elementary Budget). o. RGHS Senior High Choir members (TBD) and teacher (Jodi Hoover) to Freeport High School with qualifying students to compete in the PMEA Region II Choir Festival for a chance to progress to All-State Choir – February 23-25, 2017. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget). p. RGHS music students in grades 9-12, teachers (Jodi Hoover, Christina Luxbacher), and parent chaperones to Barrow Civic Theater in Franklin, PA to see a live theatrical performance of “The Great Gatsby” on March 16, 2017. The cost is $79.31 for transportation (1 bus) (Secondary Budget) and $384 for admission. Admission costs will be covered by activity fund and students. q. Grades 7 – 12 gifted students (40), Susan Martin, and parent chaperones (5) to Fallingwater (Mill Run, PA) and Kentuck Knob (Dunbar, PA) on April 7, 2017. This corresponds with their study on architecture, and is part of the students’ GIEPs. Cost is $669.94 for a charter bus, and the students will pay the difference between the cost of a school bus and the charter bus. (Secondary Gifted Budget) r.

RGHS Senior High Choir members (TBD) and teacher (Jodi Hoover) to Erie Convention Center with qualifying students to participate in the PMEA All-State Choir – April 19-22, 2017. The cost is fuel for a district van (Secondary Budget).

s. Valley Grove Elementary 3rd grade students (51) and teachers (Ms. Plumer, Ms. Gordon, Ms. Wolfgong) to the Cranberry High School Health Fair in Seneca, PA on a date to be determined. The cost is $79.31 for one bus (Elementary Budget). t.

Valley Grove Elementary students in grades 1 through 6 (72) and teachers (Ms. Wolfgong, Ms. Cardy, and others to be determined) to Polly’s Dairy in Franklin, PA on a date to be determined. This trip is a reward activity for students who achieve “All-Star” status for Accelerated Reader. The cost is $79.31 for one bus (Elementary Budget).

u. Grades 5-6 students (TBD), Ben Barrett, Kasey Latshaw, Thea Wheeling, and Ben Brobst to the Pirates Fantasy Baseball World Series at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA on a Saturday TBD in May 2017. Winning teams of the Pirates Fantasy Math Baseball Program will compete in the World Series. The cost is fuel for 1 or 2 district vans (depending on the number of qualifying students) (Elementary Budget). v. ADDITION – Rocky Grove Girls’ Volleyball Team (20), Coach Mike Stevenson, and Melissa Stewart to Clarion University on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 4 pm to 11 pm for a team building event where they will meet the Clarion University coach and players. The cost is $223.25 for one bus, which will be paid for by the Athletic Booster Club.

2. Activity requests (All foods that meet the Smart Snacks standards may be sold at fundraisers on the school campus during the school day without a limit on frequency. Hour of Code program at Valley Grove Elementary School – Students in grades 3-6 will be given the opportunity to explore computer science. Program will take place December 5-9, 2016 and will be supervised by Ben Barret and Thea Wheeling. e. g. Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Baseball after-school program at Valley Grove Elementary School to enhance math concepts in grades 5-6. Program will take place February –April 2017 and will be supervised by Ben Barrett and Thea Wheeling. h. This agreement will provide a total 88 hours of service time. (5 votes) Policy There is no policy business. Finance 1. Approval of the financial reports for the period ending September 30, 2016 and the lists of bills and payrolls and budgetary transfers. (An additional list of bills and payrolls is enclosed.) The cost is substitute coverage for Ms. Stahlman at a cost of $91.50 per day for a total of $274.50. b. Althea Wheeling to PA Institute for Instructional Coaching Conference in State College, PA, October 2426, 2016, January 4-6, 2017, and May 1-3, 2017. The cost is $150.12 for mileage, and $274.50 for substitute coverage for a total of $424.62. (Title IIA budget) c. Joanne Cardy to PA Institute for Instructional Coaching Conference in State College, PA, October 24-26, 2016, January 4-6, 2017, and May 1-3, 2017. 2. Course Pre-Approval Requests (5 votes) a. Michele Gibson – Teaching With I-Pads, 3 Credits, University of North Dakota/Riverview IU6, October/November 2016. Tuition is $1,549, and completion of this course will give Ms. Gibson a total of 30 credits beyond her bachelor’s degree. b. Rachel Wargo, - 650 Strategic Leadership, 3 Credits, Slippery Rock University, May/June 2017 and 652 Organizational Leadership, 3 Credits, Slippery Rock University, June/July 2017. Tuition costs are $1,449 per course, for a total cost of $2,898. Completion of these courses will give Ms. Wargo a total of 6 credits beyond her Master’s degree.
