UWS Library The Library is the University’s repository of knowledge. We provide access to the information that you’ll need to develop your knowledge of your chosen subject. We can advise you about where to find the most reliable sources of information, and we provide our services at your campus and on the web to ensure that the information that you need is available where and when you need it. Our team - based at Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley - is dedicated to helping you find the knowledge that you require to support your learning throughout your studies, whether you’re a part-time or full-time, undergraduate or postgraduate UWS student.

Our dedicated team of Subject Librarians specialise in advising Library users about resources which are available in their area of expertise. The Subject Librarians also hold information literacy sessions to help you make the correct value judgements about resources for your subject, and they create guides and material for the Library’s section on the University’s VLE.

You can phone or email your Subject Librarian, or you can drop in to the Library at your campus for a chat. You don’t need an appointment, but if you would like to make one then contact your Subject Librarian directly. Visit www.uws.ac.uk/library for contact details for our team of Subject Librarians.

The Crichton Library is situated in the Dumfries and Galloway College Building at the Dumfries Campus. The Library is managed by UWS and provides library services to all students and staff of the 3 partner institutions: University of Glasgow, Dumfries & Galloway College, and UWS. The Library is the ‘hub’ of the building, and supports UWS courses in Dumfries in business, computing, nursing, childhood studies and social work. The Library has 3 distinct zones offering a choice of study environment, and there are

several PC clusters so that you can access University-wide Library and online resources. Adjacent to the Library is the Henry Duncan Building, which provides additional study and research space, including bookable rooms for group or individual work. The Crichton Library also benefits from self-issue machines, so no need to wait in a queue at the Service Desk.
