Examensbenämning Ekonomie kandidatexamen med huvudområdet nationalekonomi Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics with a major in Economics

Programbeskrivning The education in the programme International Economics and Policy corresponds to three years of fulltime studies, comprising a total of 180 credits. In this programme students' major is in economics, with a minimum of 90 credits in that subject, and minor in business administration, with a minimum of 30 credits and a minimum of 30 credits in statistics. The programme aims to give students theoretical competencies to work with economic issues especially within the field of international economics. The program further aims at giving the program students quantitative knowledge and skills in how to analyse and process data. This programme leads to the degree ''Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics with a major in Economics'', known in Swedish as the degree ''Ekonomie kandidatexamen i nationalekonomi''. Teaching in the programme is conducted in English in all its mandatory courses and the programme is open to international students. Almost all courses at JIBS are run at ''halfspeed'', with full-time students involved in two courses at the same time. All programme students take the course Issues in Development Economics in their first year at JIBS to provide them a background in developing country issues. The mixture of courses in the programme is intended to give students a background that make them successful in their search for internships at international organizations abroad and in Sweden. All programme students study at least 30 credits in statistics, including econometrics. This gives the students a solid basis for data processing and data handling. It also gives the students knowledge about analysing data and data interference. More important, it gives the student skilss that are highly valuable for future employers. In the labor market today it is becoming more and more important not only to be able to provide statistical measures to describe the firm/organization/municipality/country but also to analyse the statistics and make accurate conclusions and suggestions based on the statistics. Elective courses are offered at JIBS within economics, business administration, economic geography and statistics to create their own individual study profiles. Considerable flexibility in creating these profiles furthermore exists due to the many opportunities of courses available at a large number of partner universities. Students are recommended to spend one semester abroad ( semester 5) to gain international experience and knowledge. During the third year of studies, students also write a 15 credits bachelor thesis in economics.

Programme level On the programme level students elect student representatives for each track of the programme and each study year of the program. The student representatives and the programme managers meet regularly to discuss courses and the progress of the programme. The representatives stay in contact with course coordinators to share the overall impression and student experiences from courses. In addition, the programme manager, student representatives, JSA and faculty meet annually to discuss the entire programme. Course level On the course level, student representatives from the course and the course responsible meet shortly after the course has started. The purpose is to ensure that the course is working well and if necessary make minor changes. After each course is finished all students perform course evaluations in PingPong, and student representatives evaluate the course on the aggregate level and communicate with the programme manager and the course responsible.
