Using PI Batch View

1.1.1

Objectives

Given a PI Server configured with batch records, use the PI BatchView add-in in PI ProcessBook and PI DataLink to: • • • • 1.1.2

Search for PI UnitBatches and PI SubBatches (Part A); Build displays showing the current and historical batches; Display and compare process values; Create a Microsoft Excel Report (Part B). Problem description

Part A

Using PI BatchView add-in in PI ProcessBook, build a display that allows the user to interactively run the following query: •

On Digester 1 or 2, find PI UnitBatches that were completed in the last 12 hours and that lasted between 50 and 60 minutes. Display only the Sulfate Cooking phase information by aligning all the start times;

Part B Using PI BatchView add-in in PI DataLink, build a Microsoft Excel Report for the last PI UnitBatches ran on the digester units along with the information on the temperature and pressure. 1.1.3

Approach

Part A Using PI ProcessBook and PI BatchView, build a batch display by:

Adding the search, result, Gantt chart and batch trend to the display; Defaulting the search for the units to “Digest*”; Adding a batch trend for the temperature; Adding a batch trend for the pressure; Configuring the search component to include the duration and filter parameter; Using the display in run mode and perform the query.

Part B

Using PI DataLink and PI BatchView, build a batch report by: 7. Open the UC-BatchViewTemplate.xlsx file;

6. Define the object area from the top left corner to the bottom right of the display. 7. In the Batch Definition configuration window, select the Main tab and set the following parameters: o

Search for PIUnitBatches (default);

o

Set the PI Server to your PI Server name unless stated otherwise;

o

Note: If the Temperature and Pressure Aliases do not show, it is more likely that they were not defined for every unit which returned PI UnitBatches in the results table.

8. Switch to the layout tab.

14. The final configuration window should look like this:

15. Click on OK to complete the batch trend. 16. Reorganize the display to fit on one column the Search and Results symbols and on the second column the Gantt chart and both batch trend. In order to resize and move a symbol, click once on one of the components of the batch group. You will notice that the entire group is selected. Click a second time one symbol to select it specifically. Now, with the selected symbol, you can drag and resize it using its resizing handles. Moving the trends, you will experience the synchronization mechanism when the vertical access of a trend is aligned with the vertical access of the Gantt chart. There will be arrows appearing on the trends. 17. Switch to run mode.

Query: ۫ on On Digester 1, find, on the last 24 hours, the batches for which the temperature exceeded 185 ◌C more than 5% of the PI UnitBatches during less than 75 minutes. 18. In run mode, use the Search symbol to specify the query parameters: o

Unit Name = Digest*1;

o

Active Range = Active between *-1 day and *;

o

Duration = Shorter than 75m;

o

Filter = ‘Temperature’ > 185 (or choose another value by inspecting the trend of Temperature) for Period: Greater than 5%.

19. Click on Search.

Step-by-Step Solution (Part B)

For the DataLink part of this lab, Part B, you can start by opening up a template file in C:\Labs\Analytics\Using PI BatchView\Template. The file name is BatchViewTemplate.xlsx. The template is not the full solution, but it does have the objects and formatting required for the lab to save you time.

This lab also includes the full solution in C:\Labs\Analytics\Using PI BatchView\Solution\, the file BatchViewDemo.xlsx. We recommend this if you are in "executive overview" mode and want to test the features described in the lab.

1. Start Microsft Excel 2007. (Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Excel.) 2. Open the file C:\Labs\Analytics\Using PI BatchView\Template\BatchViewTemplate.xlsx using the Office Button.

Page 14

3. The template already contains the selection parameters and the formatting of your report. Set your cursor in Cell A12. Invoke the PI BatchView search panel by selecting Add-Ins > PI > Batch Search.

4. Fill the PI BatchView for Excel Search page with the cells as shown in the following picture. (Use cell references as described in #5 below.) Click on Search to make sure that you are retrieving data.

5. Note that you could enter the information directly in the dialog window, but using references to the spreadsheet will allow you to dynamically update the report.

6. Moving to the settings tab, select Two PISubBatchLevels with Show Levels Using Indentation with separate columns.

7. Click on OK when the configuration is completed.

From that point, you can change you search criteria, parameter and analysis and observ the impact of the changes on the report.
