Libraries It’s best to have ONE library and organize your research by groups.

Find your way around

Set it up!

Edit Preferences • Record your EndNote online account information in EndNote (Preferences, Sync) • Tell EndNote what to do when it starts (Preferences, Libraries) • Find Full Text (Preferences, Find Full Text)

Find Full Text settings • The OPEN URL PATH should be: http://utc.on.worldcat.org/atoztitles/link

• The AUTHENTICATE WITH URL should be: https://proxy.lib.utc.edu/login

Fill ‘er up!

Add a Reference Manually Title: Eaarth: Making a life on a tough new planet Author: Bill McKibben Publisher: Henry Holt & Co. Place of publication: New York, NY Year of publication: 2010 ISBN: 0312541198

Clean it up!

Author names • Enter your author names as last name, first name • Each author on a separate line in the Author field. No spaces before or after the name.

Authors, cont. • Corporate authors require a comma at the end of the name. Examples:  Association for EndNote Enthusiasts,  American Red Cross,  University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,

Article and book titles • No punctuation at the end • Don’t use the Enter key • Capitalizing is more complicated. (The simple answer is capitalize your title the way your dominant style requires.)

EndNote for Windows Users: • Highlight the title

EndNote for Mac • Highlight title • Edit • Change case

Don’t forget the PDF! 1. Use View Now or GetIt@UTC to find the full text if necessary 2. Save the PDF to a folder on your hard drive 3. Attach the PDF to the reference in EndNote

Attaching PDFs • Select the reference • References, File Attachments, Attach File • Browse for the appropriate PDF • NOTE: You can also attach PDFs to EndNote online records.

Organize it!

Groups Use groups to organize your research. A reference can belong to no groups, one group, or multiple groups. Groups can also be shared with other EndNote online users.

Transfer to/from EndNote Online Use EndNote online to collect references when you’re away from your computer. Sync from EndNote desktop.

Do unto online as you would have it do unto your library (and vice versa)

Enjoy it!
