1 Introduction – driver versions – OS versions This document explains how to install Byte Paradigm’s USB driver, notably used with GP and Xpress series devices. This driver is provided with the 8PI Control Panel software, which can be downloaded from here: http://www.byteparadigm.com/download-16.html The USB driver provided with 8PI Control Panel from version 2.xx and later differs from the USB driver provided with 8PI Control Panel versions until 1.xx. From 8PI Control Panel version 2.00, two (2) separate drivers are provided, respectively for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft(R) Windows(R) OS. This guide describes how to install 8PI Control Panel version 2.xx driver on a new PC or on a PC where the driver version 1.xx was previously installed. This guide applies to Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit, Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit and Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit.

2 Installing USB driver for Windows 7 1) Download 8PI Control Panel installer from http://www.byteparadigm.com/download-16.html and run it. 2) Connect your USB device to one of your PC’s USB ports. 3) Start Windows 7 ‘Computer Management’ a. Click on Start button to open the Windows Start Menu. b. Right-click ‘Computer’. c. Click on ‘Manage’ in the contextual menu that opens.

4) In the ‘Computer Management’ window, select ‘Device Manager’ from the left column. A list with the computer hardware devices appears in the central section.

5) If this is the first time that you are installing Byte Paradigm’s driver: - The the connected device should appear with a yellow exclamation mark (!) in the list, under ‘Other devices’.
If you previously installed the driver from 8PI Control Panel version 1.xx: - The connected device is located in hierarchy, under ‘Universal Serial Bus Controller’ (click on the small arrow to unfold the list).
6) Right-click on the device (either the ‘unknown device’ or the previously installed one) and select ‘Update Driver Software...’ from the menu.

7) Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
8) Select ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’.

9) Click on ‘Next’.
10) Click on ‘Have Disk...’ and browse to the location of the driver: for Windows 7 32-bit version, browse to: C:\Program Files\Byte Paradigm\8PIControlPanel\drivers\x86 and select BpUsb86 for Windows 7 64-bit version, browse to: C:\Program Files\Byte Paradigm\8PIControlPanel\drivers\x64 and select BpUsb64

11) Click on ‘Install this driver software anyway’ if you receive the warning shown below.
12) Once installation is complete, you should get the screen shown below. Click on ‘Close’ to finish the installation procedure.

3 Installing USB driver for Windows XP 1) Download 8PI Control Panel installer from http://www.byteparadigm.com/download-16.html and run it. 2) Connect your USB device to one of your PC’s USB ports. 3) Start Control Panel.

5) In ‘System properties’, select on ‘Hardware’ tab, then click on ‘Device Manager’

8) From the next screen, select ‘Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)’ and click on ‘Next’.
9) In the ‘Hardware Update Wizard’, select ‘Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install’ and click on ‘Next’.

10) Click on ‘Have Disk’ on the next screen:
11) Click on ‘Browse’ and go to the location of the driver: for Windows 7 32-bit version, browse to: C:\Program Files\Byte Paradigm\8PIControlPanel\drivers\x86 and select BpUsb86 for Windows 7 64-bit version, browse to: C:\Program Files\Byte Paradigm\8PIControlPanel\drivers\x64 and select BpUsb64 then click ‘OK’
When you are back in the ‘Hardware Update Wizard’ window, click on ‘Next’.
