USA Volleyball Doug Beal - CEO The following are some of the highlights of the final quarter of USA Volleyball activity for 2009, many of which will be covered in more detail by the respective Directors responsible for each department in their reports. 1. USA Volleyball will have a significant presence at the AVCA Convention in Tampa, Florida the week of December 14. Our partnership with the AVCA is strong, and we will locate our booth next to one of our major sponsors on the convention floor. Additionally, we will partner with the Florida Region, as well as with our new magazine partner, JDP, at our booth. There will be upwards of 20 USAV staff attending, who will make presentations, produce CAP and Beach CAP programming, and be involved with PAVO and the National Referees Clinic. Our Board Chair, David Schreff, will also attend. 2. You will soon be receiving the winter 2009 edition of our “new look” magazine, which is the third issue produced in cooperation with JDP, an outside editorial and production company. We are eager to receive your feedback relative to content and the general look of the magazine. 3. I attended, for the first time in almost 20 years, the revived FIVB World Club Championship, which was held in Qatar in early November. This is a major FIVB event that could have implications for the USAV Open Championships, as a representative from the NORCECA Confederation will always be invited. The event was also used by the FIVB to test new rule ideas, and that should continue to be the case in the future. The competition was held for men only, but my understanding is that the FIVB has concluded a long-term contract for this event with the country of Qatar and, starting in 2010, will include a women’s event as well. 4. Several of our staff recently returned from the Dominican Republic, where they attended NORCECA Commission meetings (Beach and Sports Organizing). On-going discussions about event locations, dates, and other conditions were held. Of particular interest is the Youth Olympic Games that will be held in 2010 in Singapore. The US has an opportunity to qualify for the boys event only (per USOC decision reflecting limited team sport entry per National Olympic Committee) in April of this

coming year. In addition, there was confirmation of a NORCECA beach event to be held in the US in 2010. 5. USA Volleyball held its fall Board of Directors meeting in conjunction with the Volleyball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Holyoke on October 30. The induction activities continue to improve each year and the growth of the Hall, with the major support of our regions as well as USAV, is significant. This year the ceremony was attended by an Executive Vice President on the FIVB Executive Committee, Ms. Marta Centeno of Guatemala. We are moving forward in our discussions for a partnership with the FIVB to further grow and expand the Volleyball Hall of Fame. 6. I was able to spend a weekend in Lansing, Michigan meeting with the leadership of the Lakeshore Region to discuss growth opportunities and cooperative programming that might enhance USAV programming in that relatively new region. 7. Our Finance and Budget Committee met in Colorado Springs December 6-7 to review and finalize the 2010 budget for Board of Directors approval in January. It is significant that we have added two regional representatives (Steve Bishop, Florida Region and Angelo Iasillo, Great Lakes Region) in an ad hoc relationship to this very important committee. 8. The IOC selected Rio de Janeiro as the 2016 site for the Olympic Games, and Chicago was disappointed by being eliminated on the first ballot. There have been significant changes within the USOC recently, and they are currently in the final stages of selecting a new CEO who should be identified by the end of this year. 9. Our men’s indoor team competed in the NORCECA Championship in Puerto Rico in the middle of October, losing in the finals to Cuba, who qualified for the FIVB Grand Champions Cup. Cuba subsequently finished second in this competition. The women’s Grand Champions Cup finished with Italy defeating Brazil for the gold medal. The Dominican Republic represented NORCECA after winning the zone championship. Their women’s team finished third at the Grand Champions Cup. 10. The Regional Assembly meeting was held in Denver in early October. A great deal of information was shared by the regions and other outside experts. Additionally, future event sites were announced, most notably Reno,Nevada for the 2010 Girls Junior National Championships. 11. NORCECA held its bi-annual Congress in late October in Guatemala. One of the significant outcomes, for this non-election Congress, is the major increase in support that NORCECA is now receiving from FIVB, which will be passed on to the organizers of Confederation events. There is also projected to be significant growth in the number of NORCECA beach events in 2010, which will become part of the Beach Olympic Qualification for 2012 through the Confederation series. 12. USA Volleyball was honored to host the President of the African Confederation, Dr. Amr Elwani of Egypt, who is also a Vice President of FIVB, for two days of discussions on cooperative programming that could assist the African Confederation. It is likely we will create specific exchanges that will involve hosting teams from Africa, as well as creating new coaching and officiating programs to be conducted within their Confederation. It is noteworthy that Egypt will be a team in the World League pool with the USA Men’s Volleyball Team in 2010. 2009

All of us at USA Volleyball wish you a healthy and peaceful holiday season with your family and friends.

General • Finalizing Performance Partnership Agreement with the USOC. • Finalizing Selection Procedures with the USOC for the Pan American Games (Beach Discipline) and the Youth Olympic Games. • Communicating regularly with NORCECA, FIVB and other National Federations in order to rectify professional club agreement obligations to USA athletes.

Stacie Kearns, Dir. of Finance • Management of our last quarter cash flow was assisted by the change in registration year. We were able to deposit just over $75,000 in October and November/December deposits far exceeded that amount. Since this is our first year recognizing partial revenue, we are closely monitoring the progress and recognized amounts. If collections continue on this trend, we could exceed the budgeted membership income for the year by $100,000. • The finance department held a strategic planning retreat in early November. Changes were made to the departmental strategic plan and finance policies and procedures. Also discussed were general ideas for efficiencies and improvement and job responsibility changes for 2010. • The Audit, Budget and Finance Committee met in early December to review the 2010 budget. As of the end of the meeting, the budget was out of balance by approximately $135,000. Staff is revisiting the budget submissions and expect to have revised figures to the committee within a week for a follow-up conference call. We are highly optimistic that a balanced budget will be achieved. • Our employee health insurance will renew January 1st and we are adding a High Deductible Plan with a health savings account option for our employees. This will be the first time we have offered two plans for our employees to select the plan that best fits their needs.

Setters in the fall training session are Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.), Nellie Spicer (Barrington, Ill.) and Bryn Kehoe (North Bend, Ohio). Heather Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Nicole Fawcett (Zanesfield, Ohio) are taking training reps at opposite during the fall training period. The libero position has Stacy Sykora (Burleson, Texas), Jessica Fine (Tarzana, Calif.), Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jaimi Gregory (Westminster, Calif.) working out at American Sports Centers. • A dozen U.S. National Team athletes competing in overseas professional leagues in Japan, Italy, China, Russia, Brazil and Czech Republic • Organizing National Team Open Tryouts for Feb. 19-21 at the USOC Training Center in Colorado Springs • Presentation at American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Annual Convention and watching NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship semifinals and title match in Tampa, Fla. Alan Knipe - Men’s National Team Coach The U.S. Men’s National Team opened the fourth quarter of 2009 with a secondplace finish at the NORCECA Continental Championship in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. They won their pool over Canada, Mexico and Panama. In the semifinals, they defeated Puerto Rico in three sets. However, in the final, they ran up against a tough Cuban team and lost in four sets, 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25. The loss meant that the U.S. Men did not qualify for the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in November in Japan. The U.S. Men faced some difficult circumstances going into the tournament as several players had already joined their overseas club teams and only rejoined the U.S. team the day before the tournament. Also, starter Ryan Millar could not be with the team and starter Clay Stanley had to leave the tournament, both due to family emergencies. Since the NORCECA Championship, the U.S. Men’s staff has spent a lot of time catching up on things that didn’t get done prior to the 2009 World League because of the staffs’ late hiring dates. We are compiling an extensive summer review report and evaluation and formulating plans of action both for 2010 and the rest of the quad leading up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Also, we have been working with a few U.S. Men’s players in the gym this fall: Tyler Hildebrand, Dustin Watten, Tom Hoff, Rich Lambourne, Nick Scheftic, Vance Worely and Riley Salmon. Lambourne and Salmon have since left for overseas clubs. A winter training block will begin on Jan. 11 and we expect to have more players join us when the Puerto Rican league finishes. We now know our pools for the 2010 World League and World Championship so we have been collecting video and information for scouting reports. Gary Sato and I will be giving presentations at the AVCA Convention in December. Gary will also be running the USAV high performance holiday camp in San Diego at the end of December. Additionally, I will be traveling to Europe twice early next year to visit with U.S. players on international club teams.

Brent Buzbee, Dir. - Communications & Technology • Launched Microsoft Office Communication Server (OCS) to replace Lucent/ Avaya phone system. OCS brings an extensive menu of new communications tools to the USAV office, which we hope to use to reach all corners of the organization. Internally, we have new features like instant messaging for all staff across all offices, voice mail forwarding to email, conference call hosting, video calling, video conferencing, desktop sharing, “portable” telephones that can connect anywhere an internet connection is available, call forwarding to mobile or home phones, company presence indicators, additional caller tracking tools for reception, tools for mobile phones, webinars, soft-phones and many other innovations that make this a cutting edge communications platform. Since the platform is software driven instead of legacy PBX hardware driven, upgrades and additional features for telephones and the platform can be made whenever an updated software package is available. We aren’t stuck with a legacy phone system that can only be upgraded by ripping out all of the hardware and starting over. • Rolled out a new information sharing platform for the national teams and beach office in California. Private sites, running on the Microsoft Sharepoint platform, have been introduced to the USAV team offices in California to better and more effectively facilitate information sharing amongst the teams. Features include document sharing, task sharing, discussion boards, announcements, calendaring and project tracking are all available on password protected intranet site. Future additions could include video sharing and other items as deemed important to the respective staffs. Key administrative staff in Colorado Springs are able to access the sites to further enhance interaction with the teams and sharing needed information. If the platform proves to effective for the national team, we will visit other organization wide uses from the board down to the regions and commissions. • Visited California offices to assess infrastructure needs and evaluate ways to better integrate systems between sites. An infrastructure upgrade proposal is in its initial stages and would allow Colorado Springs IT staff to better assist the remote office in computer/network support. Initial upgrade goals include installing servers to run basic network services and provide digital video sharing, and keep a persistent VPN connection to the USAV corporate headquarters. We would be able to ensure that all computers and data in California were secure and receive malware and security patch updates. Advanced objectives include providing data replication services between offices for critical data disaster recovery. 2009 • Fourth-quarter website traffic is traditionally the lowest of the year. Susan Barkley, Manager - Database Services • USAV RVA Mid-Year Meetings: A Webpoint discussion session was held during the USAV RVA meetings in Denver. • Extended Officials Insurance: The “Extended Officials Insurance” option no longer displays for juniors during the registration process, but is restricted to only those individuals 18 years old or older. • Advanced Event Systems: As of November 1, 2009, any clubs using the data import feature in Advanced Event Systems (“AES”) are able to import only current 2010 membership data. • Club Codes: It is critical that all teams have an active roster in Webpoint and are correctly identified throughout the season. Club Codes are defined by the Region and must be consistent when used in Webpoint, HangAStar, AES, and any event registration. Club Codes are five characters, alphanumeric only – no special characters should be used (apostrophes, hyphens, etc.). • UNDECIDED default for Club Selection: The default for the Club drop-down list (on the second screen of the registration process) is now UNDECIDED rather than “Select One” for all members. • Unpaid Process: For Region Administrators indicating payment for Unpaid memberships, the second screen of the Unpaid Process now defaults to the member’s last name for the Customer dropdown list (rather than “Select One”) if only one member had been selected for processing. • Additional Jr Requirements URL: A new field is included on the Region Preferences screen, “Additional Jr Requirements URL”, which allows a Region Administrator to enter a link which will display on the Confirmation Screen at the end of the junior membership registration process, as well as on the Welcome Screen for a junior member when logging in to access his/her record. The link is displayed as “Additional Required Documents for Juniors.” This is particularly provided to facilitate the administration of the Zackery Lystedt Law requirements in Washington (regarding concussions/ head injuries), but is available for all Regions to use as needed. • Credit Card Payment for Unpaid Memberships: Members in regions that accept credit card payment within Webpoint now have the option of paying for Unpaid memberships with credit card payment directly in Webpoint. The member may not change the membership, add items, or remove items when making payment.
