Native people of Sakha On the 22nd of June we had the honor of opening an exciting photo exhibition in our Art hall in Carnivore Center Gronklitt, Orsa, Sweden: Native People of Sakha. Photographer Egor Makrov from Yakutia presents in 39 images (50x70 cm) and 32 postcards (15x21) a fascinating wilderness, native groups, handicraft, traditions - from the ”Amazonas of north” - Yakutia. The exhibition will after the period in Gronklitt continue on a world tour to other museums and art halls. Carnivore Center Gronklitt Carnivore Center Gronklitt administrates and organizes the World tour. The Sakha Republic (Yakutia) is the largest subject of the Russian Federation. Its total area is 3103,2 thousand km², which makes 1/5 part of the territory of Russia. Over 40% of Yakutia`s territory is beyond the Arctic Circle. The capital of the republic – the city of Yakutsk – is 8468 km away from Moscow. Yakutia is the coldest inhabited region of the world. The minimum temperature of 71,2 degrees Celsius below zero was registered in the settlement of Oymyakon; the range of temperature is more than 100 degrees Celsius – from + 40 in summer to - 60 in winter. Yakutia is the land of boundless tundra, high mountains and vast pristine virgin taiga. Yakutia is one of those rare places in the world where pristine nature and amazing diversity of flora and fauna have been preserved. The taiga, along with the jungles of South America, is by right called “the lungs of the Earth”. Yegor Makarov is a Sakha amateur photographer, a businessman and a philanthropist. He does mountaineering; he has climbed the highest peaks of Europe (Elbrus, Caucasus), North America (Denali, Alaska, USA) and South America (Aconcagua, Argentina) and had numerous expeditions and climbs in Yakutia. He has published books and supported the production of documentaries about Yakutia.

There are more than 800000 lakes and 700000 rivers and rivulets in the republic; the Lena River is one of the largest world water arteries. Our northern region is known in the world not only for its diamonds; people of strong spirit and kind and open hearts make its main wealth.

Governor Maria Norrfalk opens the exhibition

Native People of Yakutia Photographer Yegor Makarov from Yakutsk has just opened an exhibition in Orsa Grönklitt Sweden - one of the hottest tourism areas in Sweden. The exhibition is in the Art Hall at Carnivore Center Gronklitt. Gronklitt has the largest Bearpark in Europe and the largest Polar bear facility in the world. The start The exhibition is a result from a Northern Forum meeting in Yakutia passed fall. During a session in Yakutsk Anders Bjorklund, managing director of the center and also photogapher and author, saw a lot of fantastic images at the restaurant about Native people of Sakha. He wanted to get in contact with photographer Yegor Makarov. The organizer of the conference Vladimir Vassiliev and Maria Krivtsova arranged a meeting and now the visitors at the bearpark in Sweden can learn more about Sakha through a photo exhibition. The meeting The meeting between Anders and Yegor gave the idea to make an exhibition of Yegors work in Sweden. Anders says, I am so impressed of his images, the people of Sakha and the nature they have and so are all our visitors. This is a marketing of absolutely highest quality for Sakha republic and I am so glad that Maria and Vladimir arranged that meeting with Yegor. The Carnivore Center The center in Gronklitt has around 200000 visitors. Besides Stockholm and Gothenburg Dalecarlia is one of the most attractive Toursim areas in Sweden. This summer we have opened a new Leopard center and opened a Design exhibition beside all the other things we have here in the park and center, says Anders. tives on Wrangel Island. The visitors we have had so far are really impressed of Yegors images, says Anders. It is a fantastic nature they have got in Sakha. Governor of Dalecarlia opened The governor of Dalecarlia Maria Norrfalk opened the exhibition on 22 of June. She has a forestry background and the dialogue between Yegor and Governor never ended. She was so impressed by the images of different Native groups, stories that Yegor told, untouched nature and she would love to go there. The opening cermony ended up with Yegor giving the governor ”The sun of Sakha” and Yegor got a small golden bracelet - a Dalecarlian horse. The ”Amazonas of the north” Anders says after meeting Yegor, taking part of all his stories and visiting Sakha that they have the ”Amazonas of the north” in Yakutia. The republic has a huge potential and Yegor and I have been discussing how it would be possible to slowly and in small scale start an wilderness tourism, says Anders. World tour for the exhibition Anders has a wide net of contacts and has planned and arranged that Yegors exhibition will travel around the world for a couple of years. The exhibition will stay in Gronklitt until November and the go to Ajtte Sami museum in north of Sweden. Then it will go to Vassfar bearpark in Norway and then to the Polar museum in Grenna south Sweden. Finally he is now working on moving the exhibition to Arctic and the museum in Svalbard (Spitzbergen) and hopefull I can arrange that it end in Alaska and USA. The exhibition has such a quality that it is worth beeing seen by a lot of people. The republic of Sakha has got an ambassadeur of high quality through Yegor says Anders.
