Welcome Parents and Students, CONCERT INFORMATION 2016 Saturday 19th November Shows: ONE Show 4pm Please read this guide carefully and keep it handy for your reference. It is a large document and we appreciate your time to read and absorb it. It will answer many questions that people have. Please go through with a high lighter and mark what is relevant to you. There will be ONE SHOW at 4pm.

PRIOR TO CONCERT PREPARATIONS – Make up, Sewing and Hairstyles COSTUMES All costumes are supplied ready-made. The only sewing maybe to attach shoulder straps with the same coloured thread as your child’s costume with a running stitch. To keep the costumes in good condition we recommend that you purchase a costume bag to hang your costumes in. Please name the bag and all the items in it on the tags with your child’s initials. Costume payments are inclusive of Term 1 – 4’s fees. Term 4’s costume payment was includes in term 3’s invoice. All costume and class fees for 2016 must be paid in full prior to your child receiving the costumes. Paid accounts will th receive their costumes on week starting Saturday 12 of NOVEMBER. Do not iron or wash or practice in the costume before the concert. Accidents do happen and they cannot be replaced. I suggest all costumes are hung out so that they can drop if they are slightly wrinkled in a safe spot out of the sun. Tutus must be hung upside down.

All have presented a current working with children police check that is sighted by staff, attend class mother meeting on th the 26 of September 2016 7:30-8:30pm and on the concert day. These Volunteers assist in making our concert a success for all! Without them the show cannot run. Older classes need 1 class mother per show and support with very quick changes of costumes (less than 2mins!) Adults/Parents will not be permitted into the dressing room. Class mothers are there to support the children. This is to reduce the numbers of people and to keep children calm with instructions coming from one person. POLICE CHECKS can now be done online https://www.nationalcrimecheck.com.au. These can take up to three weeks or more to process. Please do not leave it to the last minute

Kinder, Senior and First Time Concert Parents Notice - Supplementary Information The Dancers Studio – Senior Concert 2016 Welcome to the exciting world of dance concerts. Concerts and planning have come a long way since we were children. We provide a time tabled rehearsal schedule; technical rehearsal and a show that lasts about 2.5 hours. All people allowed back stage have shown and handed in a copy of a working with children current police clearance. No one else will be allowed backstage. Understanding Dance Concerts: WEEK 1- 3 Term 4: Your child has been rehearsing the same dance for 20-25 weeks. In addition they will have a dress rehearsal/ technical stage practice and one or two shows depending on the seating needs. They will be introduced to their class mother at the start of term 4, who can come in to view full classes in the last three weeks prior to the concert to become more familiar with the dancers, costumes, names and personalities of the class. In class time we will discuss location of the stage door. How to enter the stage with “stage manners” – no talking, quickly and quietly, including the fact that the lights will be dimmed so that we can be a big surprise when the curtain opens with the lights on. The children know where to stand and what they are doing and in most instances will have class mothers – who have been dancing all term in class as a helper, or a senior student, or Miss Emily dancing on stage or on the side of stage to support the girls and boys should they blank. They know to finish the dance and to stay where they are until the curtains have closed and the helpers can assist them to the stage door. WEEK 1: SUNDAY 23rd OCTOBER 2016 Photo Day: At our photo day you are welcome to stay and wait outside of the studio at our PROSPECT ROAD LOCATION – 174 PROSPECT ROAD PROSEPCT. We wish for the children to build a little independence to dance without you in their sight. Should this be overwhelming we may need to talk about your being on stage or just in the wings, with your child. We will not permit, photography, or video recordings at any rehearsals, back stage or concerts. Please take photos at home. If you miss out on these photos no options for make up are available. These dates have been in the Information booklet 2016 since January.

everything. Class mothers will assist with toilet runs. NUT FREE environment! NO food sharing. PLEASE RESPECT THESE RULES! HAIR AND MAKEUP: Please see document attached. All must have hair in a bun with no fringes or wispy bits. All must be the same. All children in Pink tights for ballet and tan for jazz and tap. Please make sure that all underwear is minimal and skin toned. It is a terrible look to have them visible from underneath the costume. Only class mothers will be back stage. Prepare your child to drop and go at the stage door.. Whole Day Event: We have over 30 Senior, Inter and Junior classes performing in the November Concert. All shows are compulsory for participation, as you have committed to the group. BLOCK OUT THE WHOLE DAY. Please do not double book events and expect us to be flexible. Procedures for unexpected events on stage - Should a child be distressed back stage they will be calmed by the class mother, read stories, colour with pencils and any other comforts that you wish to bring for the child. Should they not wish to go on stage, we will not force them. They will be holding hands or held on the hip of the class mother, or a Staff Member on the side of the stage so that they get to see the show, or perform in the wings. Should a child see you from the stage and run to you – the stage is flat, ground level and seating is tiered, we know to leave them with you. If a child is overwhelmed on stage we will hold their hand, or place them on the hip and we will stay on stage and keep dancing, while talking to your child to reassure them that all is ok. STUDENT COLLECTION: Children must not leave the dressing room in their costume. Audience may only enter and exit at the end of the shows, as it ruins the DVD recording to have a head pop up on the screen. Back stage will be locked until the end of the shows for safety. ONE PARENT CAN STAY IN THE AUDITORIUM FOR COLLECTION> DO NOT HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS REMAIN IN THE THEATRE AS IT CAUSES EXCESS NOISE AND CONFUSION. I do hope that this information will assist you with the exciting day of events. It will be a long and rewarding day for the children. Thank you in assisting that their world is magical! Best wishes, The Dancers Studio Pty Ltd

CONCERT DAY: THE Norwood Concert Hall, NORWOOD ARRIVAL: The children will have tried on their costumes in class and at all rehearsals. Please have the class mother dress your child at the theatre. Do not have them arrive in costume. Accidents happen and it is best to have a change of clothes. CLASS MOTHERS: have a very important role of signing in and out the students on arrival backstage. Do not just take your child. We will panic and start a BIG search!! CHILDREN WILL BE BROUGHT BACK ON STAGE AND SIGNED OUT FROM THE STAGE AT THE END OF THE SHOW. Each class will have a set rug to sit on and area. Name

A final word from Miss Emily… I know that this all seems a lot to take in but I assure you that there will be many memories and friendships made during these long hours. I know some of the new parents will be feeling a little lost but remember we all had a first time and the best thing to do is ask. If in doubt, ask another mum or staff member who has done it before. This will now be my 11th year of concerts and I am looking forward to the special day, as I’m sure the children will make us feel very proud of them! Enjoy the next few weeks. Miss Emily Warhurst
