CONTEXT The University has embarked on a major change programme which will include implementing new solutions for Student Management, Financial Management and HR & Payroll. Key to the success of the programme will be successful management of the cleansing, enrichment and migration of data. The programme is made up of 3 projects which are individually responsible for delivering the solutions and process change for management of the colleague life cycle, financial management and the management of the student life cycle. Application solutions are to be procured for each of the projects. Existing technology including Microsoft Biztalk ESB and MDM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft SharePoint will also be used to develop new solutions.

JOB PURPOSE The Data Cleansing and Migration Analyst will be part of the team responsible for delivering a new Student Management Solution. They will report to the Data Cleansing Lead and will be responsible for assisting with the development of the data migration plan, working with legacy system and new system information system analysts to design, create and operate the tools to extract, cleanse, transform, enrich, load and validate all required data for the successful implementation and operation of the new solutions. The Data Cleansing and Migration Analyst will undertake all migration activities, as directed by the Data Migration Lead for the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Planning and Activity Management •

Work with the Data Migration Lead to prepare to develop the data cleansing and migration plan including risks, milestones, and quality and business sign-off details.



Work with key stakeholders in the project to develop the timeline for the data cleansing, migration and preparation activities



Monitor and report progress of the data migration plan at project level as agreed with the project manager.



Identify issues and risks within the data migration activities develop and agree mitigation and responses with the project manager.



Escalate further risks and issues as they occur to the project manager.



Attend and contribute to regular project meetings Data Cleansing and Migration



Starting with the existing operating model data architecture, then work with subject matter experts and project team perform data analysis of the legacy solutions and the new solutions to develop the data migration requirements specification including identification of mapping of source data to target data, gaps in target data requiring enrichment of source data, transformation and cleansing of source data.



Where there are integration and interface points understand data usage and implications for data cleansing and migration



Assist in designing, planning and managing the data cleansing and migration approach and processes including performing source system data analysis and source to target system data mapping



Working with the Data Migration lead design a testing and validation scheme to ensure accuracy, quality and integrity of all target solution data.



Manage cross-project data assurance for physical data items in source and target systems including auditing, reconciliation and reporting of cleaning and migration activity



Where off the shelf tools are not appropriate or available, design and develop custom scripts.



Design processes and procedures to correct inaccurate and poor quality data.



Work with the Data Migration Lead to specify all required data migration tools to achieve the extract, cleanse, transform, enrich, load and validation of the data.



Work with the Data Migration Lead, new and existing solution providers to identify use of existing tools within the solutions that can be used for data migration activity.



Where gaps exist in tool provision recommend off the shelf solutions and gain agreement with the Data Migration Lead and Project Manager for procurement of any tools.

Where use of manual data entry into the new solutions is the appropriate method of data population design and develop processes and associated instructions.



Ensure all appropriate standards are applied to data migration tool design and operation.



Assist with the design and presentation of training material and process instructions for staff performing data migration activities.



Develop best practice, processes, and standards for effectively carrying out data cleansing and migration activities.



Working closely with business teams in analysing data to determine duplicates, invalid data, etc. and undertake required actions.



Perform data migration activity and tasks

In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent experience BCS Certificate in Data Management or similar Membership of relevant professional bodies Experience: Performing data cleansing and migration within a major system implementation projects including working with end users, internal and external providers Performing data cleansing and migration within a HR/Payroll and/or Finance and/or Student Management System implementation Experience of liaising with 3rd Parties, e.g. consultants and technology suppliers Developing, maintaining, monitoring and reporting of data migration plans Use of commercial data migration and ETL tools Development of data migration and ETL tools Higher Education sector Skills and Knowledge: Data modelling and analysis techniques Microsoft SQL Server, MS client and server tools Commercial cleansing tools Commercial ETL tools Design, development and use of data cleansing, extract and load tools Design, development and implementation of validation and testing processes Has a good appreciation of the wider field of information systems Identifies gaps in available information and devises means remedying such gaps. Maintains an awareness of developing technologies and their application Planning and organisational skills; able to manage own time and priorities provided the required output is achieved, within the constraints set by the project.
