CONTEXT

The KTP Associate will be employed by the University of Lincoln for 2 years but be based with the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust at Rampton Hospital near Retford and subject to its employment practices and conditions of work. The successful candidate will be supervised both by staff at The Peaks unit in the hospital and the College of Arts at the University of Lincoln. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a national Government-supported initiative which supports partnerships between business and universities, enabling Associates to work on challenging, high profile projects. (www.ktponline.org.uk). They provide employment and personal development opportunities for graduates and offer an excellent step to fast track career development. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the country’s leading providers of integrated healthcare and has an extremely diverse portfolio of mental health, learning disability and community health services. The Trust is also involved in a number of collaborations in research and innovation with other partners. The Trust has an income of over £435m and employs over 8800 staff to provide these services. Rampton is a high secure hospital which treats patients with a range of psychiatric conditions. The Peaks Unit which operates within the hospital is a nationally recognised centre for pioneering treatment for patients with severe personality disorder. JOB PURPOSE

To use the latest media content creation and broadcast technologies to produce material that will support traditional “talking therapies” delivered to individuals who have a severe personality disorder and are detained under the Mental Health Act 1998. The KTP aims to use immerging media to deliver treatment to patients as part of a fictional video and/or audio narrative. Patients will be acting as both producers and consumers of those narratives with the project developing a method of measuring patient engagement while providing evidence of recovery.

Working with both clinical and technical staff at the hospital and academic staff at the university the associate will research and develop the project as a physical product and then work with colleagues to bring that product to external markets. The associate will also work with academics at the university to facilitate research outcomes relating to the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Product

To research and develop a media based therapy delivery method for patients in a secure environment based on the ethos of “patient as producer” creating self-made experience led fictional narratives. Assisted by clinicians and academics the associate will carry out market research and business development with the aim of handing over a marketable product and process. It will be your responsibility to ensure the method can be developed for external markets and also that new staff at The Peaks can follow on and continue to develop the work with patients Fostering relationships

You will work with outside contractors and businesses to ensure there is where possible a local financial benefit to both the NHS Trust and the local business community. Developing an audience engagement assessment method

To work with clinicians, academics, security and technical experts to design a way of measuring engagement with the project in a secure environment Academic research

To engage with academics from The University of Lincoln and clinical staff from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to facilitate the production of a range of research outcomes. The Associate will cooperate in practical research and act as a named researcher on key academic papers. This could include presentations to academic staff at the university as well as selective conferences. This will include attending trade events and conferences to both research the process and product and also promote the initiative to other sectors. Continuing Professional Development

The associate will undertake post-graduate study which will fall within a range of disciplines. For example Media, drama, psychology and/or business management. This will include attending trade events and conferences as both a researcher and promoter of the initiative to other sectors. Training role

To teach a range of practical media skills to hospital staff and to source training for any new media skills which the associate is unfamiliar with.

The successful applicant will be based at The Peaks Unit working in a national centre for the treatment of severe personality disorder. You will be developing leading edge therapy delivery methods with some of the country’s most challenging patients and internationally recognised clinicians. The KTP will provide the successful applicant with a unique opportunity to move into a range of industry, health care and academic professions. Full support will be offered both in the work place and in at The University of Lincoln where the successful applicant will be encouraged to carry out a post graduate qualification.
